  1. Hi everyone, Just to let you know I released my latest course. It's called Affinity Photo: Beginner to Pro via Reference and Workflow and is designed to answer one question: 'I've learned some of the tools with Affinity Photo, but how do I actually enhance an image, start to finish?' I take you through the development of a series of photos using a variety of workflows. We start with a simple workflow that's just right for beginners then move on to more advanced workflows as the course progresses. But there's a problem. Learning the when and why of an effective workflow is all well and good. But it's hard to learn the tools when you're learning about the workflow and it's near impossible to learn about the workflow when you're learning about the tools. So I've done both. This course is divided into two sections. You get hours of tutorials which cover various workflows and approaches to developing photos. But you also get a huge reference section which covers the various tools that Affinity Photo has to offer. If there's a tool I'm using in the workflow videos, there's a video explaining just that tool in the reference videos. Two ways to learn Affinity Photo. Reference and workflow. The course comes with a special introductory price. If you enter the coupon AP_BEGINNER_PRO right under the video on the landing page where it says 'Have a coupon?' you can get the course for $11.99, which is even cheaper than the sale price Udemy is offering it for. By the end of the course you will have seen and followed along with various effective workflows, start to finish. You will gain the confidence to tackle your own images, be able to select which workflow suits the photo best, and one day soon you may well be looking at one of your own photos which you've enhanced, and thinking 'That looks fantastic! I did that...' I think it's only fair to say why this course is different to some of my other courses. For starters it's the longest Affinity Photo course I offer, but there's more to it than that. Affinity Photo: Solid Foundations is the original comprehensive introduction course that I created. It was designed to be the general purpose course that I'm sure people are familiar with - explain how to use the tools, give people exercises to consolidate their knowledge, talk a little around technical matters like how an image gets into your camera and so on. Then there were courses like the RAW course and the Little Box of Tricks course which focussed on particular areas of image editing such as creating special effects. But it was after a conversation I had with someone on the Affinity Photo forums who really wanted tutorials that concentrated on how to enhance a photo from start to finish. His field of interest was landscape photography so I released Affinity Photo: Developing Landscapes. It was different to the other courses in that it concentrated on the workflow. I was unsure about how it would be received because it was different to anything I'd done before. I was pleased that it got good ratings and comments at Udemy, so then I decided to do a longer and more general course which had workflow at it's center and so we now have Affinity Photo: Beginner to Pro via Reference and Workflow. I realised from the Developing Landscape course that it needed a reference video section in a one tool/one video format as well as the workflow videos. If I didn't then I'd spend far too much time going into detail about what a tool does while I was also trying to explain a workflow. It would just get too confusing. So the new course is split into two sections. The workflow at the beginning, which is the primary intent of the course, and the reference section which is intended to supplement the workflow. Now, if you already have the Solid Foundations course, you will already have seen most of the tools covered in the reference section and I wouldn't advise you to get the new course if a tool reference was all you wanted. But what I would say is that around 6.5 hours of the new course is devoted to various different workflows and I take a series of pictures from start to finish so you can see how the various different tools in Affinity Photo fit together to improve a picture. There are other courses about Affinity Photo at Udemy for the same asking price that are shorter than just the workflow section of my new course. So I believe I'm offering good value for money. I hope that clears up any questions, but click on the link at the top of this post and go to the landing page for the course. There is an introductory video that explains what the course is about. That may help you further to decide whether to use your coupon to take advantage of the introductory price. Now, one last thing - Udemy are offering their own introductory price for the course. With the coupon you can get it for cheaper. Just enter BEGINNER_PRO_INTRO into the coupon field for the better price. Thanks for your time, Simon Foster
  2. Hi, I have a series of tutorials about Affinity Photo iPad in german on Youtube:
  3. can anyone explain me how to do Boolean operation ? I am novice to the afinity this is my first graphic design softwear so I have no idea how boolean operations work in graphic works. I want to combine shapes but now it is so fustrating and tiresome to think how this is done by boolean operations
  4. I am new at this on the community forum so forgive me if I am in the wrong area. I want to put some videos together using clip art people or even animated people. Does anyone have an idea as who may have some in the community for download?
  5. Hi everyone, I hope this email finds you not too stressed out with the holidays at the moment! These are the Affinity Photo courses I've created a set of discount vouchers for. Enter the coupon on the Apply Coupon field for the relevant course to get the discount. Be aware that there are a limited amount for each course and it's on a first come, first served basis. Anyway, here's the courses, the discount vouchers plus just one of the many feedback quotes for each of the courses: 75% off 'Affinity Photo for the iPad' with this coupon: AFFINITY_IPAD_2017 - https://www.udemy.com/affinity-photo-for-the-ipad/ 'Excellent!! I have learned a great deal in a short time. Would recommend this course to anyone.' 66% off 'Affinity Photo: Solid Foundations' with this coupon: SOLID_2017 - https://www.udemy.com/affinityphoto-solid-foundations/ 'Great course, have learnt such a lot. the subtle repetition helps a lot. The videos are easy watch and to keep up with. Tutors voice is very easy to listen to all evening too!' 60% off 'Affinity Photo: Developing Landscapes' with this coupon: LANDSCAPE_2017 - https://www.udemy.com/affinity-photo-developing-landscapes/ 'It's the only video that shows a complete work flow using Affinity photo. Simon is very good in what he does and is a good communicator as well.' Just a quick note here. If you already have the Solid Foundations or iPad course, there's no point in you getting the Five Steps course. The Five Steps course is intended to be a very basic introduction to Affinity Photo and the topics it covers are covered in more depth, along with plenty more topics on the Solid Foundations and iPad courses. I wouldn't want anyone to feel like they's paid more for the same information. The vouchers are available until 6th january 2018, & in the meantime, happy holidays to one and all! Simon
  6. I'm in the process of making the auto generated captions legible for the Solid Foundations course at Udemy - https://www.udemy.com/affinityphoto-solid-foundations/ which is taking it's sweet time because they are so gloriously creative when transcribing what I say. Here's some epic quotes, along with my duller corrections underneath. I apologise for demeaning the mighty art that the auto generator hath wrought by correcting it so it actually makes sense. But enough! Here's the highlights from what I've done so far... OK so I'm back to commit to my crap. OK, so I'm about to commit to my crop. Come up here to my croping tool. Cocteau or Prossy. Come up here to my cropping tool. 7. Hello all! I'm a complete beginner to creating vector artwork. I'm more of a Photoshop person. I have the Designer trial, and since I work better with text tutorials than videos, I went looking for some. I didn't find many, but there are tons for Adobe Illustrator. I did one and the lack of the warp tool in Designer tripped me up. Can you recommend any Illustrator tutorials (since there are so many more of them) that work with Designer? I'm looking for basic stuff. This is the tutorial I tried that used the warp tool, otherwise, I had no trouble with it. https://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-create-a-set-of-flat-animal-icons-in-adobe-illustrator--cms-24710
  8. Hey I started looking through the Affinity Workbook and am a bit disappointed...On page 11 you reference your social media accounts, and under the Vimeo logo it says, "Learn how to use the Affinity suite with our comprehensive video tutorials at www.vimeo.com/macaffinity." I was excited about this because I learn better hands on vs reading directions. So, I was a bit surprised to see that there are literally only 2 videos on the channel, and they are from 2 years ago. I am aware that there is a bunch of videos all over the internet, but I was hoping for something that went in some type of order. It would be awesome if a set of videos came with the workbook to go along with it in sequence. Do you plan on updating the Vimeo channel? Thank you for all the hard work put into such an amazing program! Jen
  9. Hi I’m putting tutorials together on Skillshare about designing with grids, and I use Affinity Designer as my vector drawing tool of choice. Some teachers feature the software they use, e.g., Ai in the title and/or cover image for the class. What is Serif’s views on the use of the name ‘Affinity Designer’ and logo in third party tutorials, and are there any usage/style guide requirements? Chris
  10. Kann ich die PS-Tutorials alle Anwenden, oder gibt es da Einschränkungen? Can I use the PS tutorials, or are there limitations?
  11. Hi Everyone, I just bought affinity designer, but was wondering if there are any good resources for complete beginners? I am looking for something like an in depth guide. I wanted to order the workbook but my country is not listed. Thanks for the help in advance. Regards, HDK
  12. Just found this site: http://www.graphicxtras.com/tutorials/tutorials-affinity-photo-designer.htm Includes useful notes.
  13. Hi, When i run tutorials from Affinity Photo on my iPad Pro, i get a black screen. Is it possible to run the tutorials from Safari ? ______________________________________________________________________________________ I have found on the forum a document with links to Vimeo and You Tube displays of the tutorials. I havé tried links and it is OK.
  14. I'm working my way through the Affinity Designer tutorial videos to familiarize myself with the program, and there's some inconsistent behavior between what happens in the app on my machine and in the video. When alt-clicking the add button to create a compound shape, the video tutorial merges the shapes into a non-destructive compound shape. Yet, on my computer, doing so causes the top shape to disappear. The strange part is, the top shape will reappear if the position of the tear drop is moved far away from the top shape: or moved higher up into the top shape: Additionally, even though both shapes have the stroke set to none, there's still a gap between the two shapes, which indicates that it's not possible for Affinity Designer to do a non-destructive compound addition properly: It's very confusing to have the program behave so inconsistently when following an in-house tutorial video — is this (another) bug, or did I miss a step and not set an option/preference properly?
  15. I have just watched two tutorials from the home page. After they are done the voice does not shut off. Now I am hearing voices from the two tutorials at once and going nuts. HOW do I turn them off please.
  16. I just downloaded Windows Version 1.5.2 of Affinity Photos. Many changes but not a single tutorial explaining where past features went and how to use modified ones. Worst part... no concern by Affinity.
  17. Hey there, I'm wondering if there are any tutorials specifically for putting the website design together and making it work. Is it simply html coded after designing a webpage in AD? For instance, how would you make functioning buttons and links from it? I don't mind the html part, I just need to know if the UI kit includes that type of option to make the buttons I create do something. If there's nothing AD can do for that, how are people creating mobile/web interfaces with their AD designs? Second question, are there any tutorials on how to make keyboards with the UI kit for mobile? Just keyboard skins. I've already viewed Affinity's tutorials on the UI kit, they don't answer these questions for me. Thank you~
  18. Are the images used in the help video tutorials available - this would be very helpful.
  19. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see the latest added tutorials. Thanks. Hello Everyone, In the last couple of weeks I shared in the Forum different topics related to video tutorials I upload to my YouTube channel. To make it more practical, I'm gonna share them and new ones in just this topic. Feel free to scroll down and find all the videos I already uploaded. If you want to know a bit more about me and what to expect, then keep reading. Photography (and design) is part of my life for more than twenty years. I began working in the advertising industry in the 90's and from there I covered many different areas from the creative process to production. Today I mainly do portrait photography, fine art, special assignments and some design projects. In the last years and as a certified trainer, I began to share what I've learned and continue to learn in workshops. I mainly cover Portrait Photography, Black & White, Digital Workflow and Retouching. For the love of sharing my passion about photography, I decided to start making video tutorials and this is the reason I end up here. The amazing software the Affinity Team made gave me the enthusiasm we normally have when we get a new toy. For me it's been a fantastic experience and discovery of new ways of doing the same things in a different, and many times better, way. And this experience is what I want to share with you. This is also the reason I'm going to cover more the Affinity apps in a photography scenario. But you can expect more, a lot more... I'll also be covering photographic tips and techniques and other software that I find relevant to my/our work. This is the case of Capture One Pro that will have also a special feature. Apart from this I'm also preparing some "extras" but that's for another time What to keep in mind: Every time I make a tutorial where I create a special resource, like a macro, a brush, a style, etc. I'll share it for free. You just need to follow the video tutorial or blog post to see the download links. Some tutorials also have a related post in my blog with more details. You can check it here: (available in Portuguese and English): http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/ The tutorials are made in Portuguese but they have English subtitles. Nevertheless I make them in a very easy to follow pace. For that reason they are suitable for both beginners and advanced users. The list I have for upcoming tutorials is long but if you have a specific topic you would like to be covered just let me know. You never know if your request is my next tutorial. This was the case of the Glow Effect video. I'm going to share them chronological so the new ones will be in the end of this topic. Finally my idea is to share tutorials on a regular basis so feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel to be the first one to know about it: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxdrAaW4Zr9lYktQmt5O4VA You can also subscribe to my Blog where you can find other topics: http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/ Sorry if I made this introduction to long, but it was important for me to share this. I hope you'll find each tutorial a useful resource and also a source of inspiration. 20. While I'm on a roll, I figured I may as well post some more recent photography edited in Photo ;) Some of these you may recognise from the video tutorials: Lone Purple by James Ritson, on Flickr One of those nice surprises you get sometimes, I didn't think much of this photo until I started experimenting with blend modes - at which point it became very moody and striking. Spinning Out by James Ritson, on Flickr An abstract long-exposure shot of a spinning record. I was shooting some video for a personal project and decided to grab a few stills too. Monsal Tunnel by James Ritson, on Flickr A very wet day in Derbyshire, which kind of spoiled the view over Monsal Dale. There was this tunnel, however, which is really atmospheric with all the reflections from the damp areas. Sugar Factory At Night by James Ritson, on Flickr Shot at night, the initial image lacked impact until I brought in some brush work and blend modes - this resulted in the Creative Painting tutorial, where you can enhance colours in images with artificial lighting. Robin Hood Hotel by James Ritson, on Flickr A disused hotel building in Newark (Nottinghamshire), and I've brought some colour into the sign using brush work with blend modes (mainly Overlay, Reflect and Screen). That's all for now - just wanted to share some work, hope you find it interesting!
  21. Overall the tutorials are fantastic and an awesome feature of Affinity. However the "Raw: Developing Images" tutorial has a lot of "click on the Chromatic Aberration Reduction will reduce chromatic aberration". Uh, well, if the viewer doesn't know what chromatic aberration is then this doesn't teach them anything (same critique applies to most of the rest of that tutorial for even simple things like "contrast" which probably everyone actually knows what contrast is)
  22. Hey guys, If you are fit in german or german based user, you can follow my channel on youtube, where I made tutorials for affinity now. The first video was about how to start with APhoto https://youtu.be/JdHa29RCfCk The second tutorial about RAW developing is online since few minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d76jl6S8Gs Have fun and feel free to share your comments, likes and thoughts about it with me. cheers, seb :)
