  1. I've got a few shapes where, at some point in the past, I've flipped them horizontally. To my surprise, when I filled them with text, the text was also reversed. Is there a way to tell Affinity to not keep that information hanging around, and just make the text object normally? Personally I feel like it shouldn't behave this way (if I wanted reversed text, I'd flip it after adding the words). There are work arounds, like combining some geometry, even if it doesn't alter the shape, will resolve the issue. Thanks!
  2. Hello, I just opened a psd file with Affinity, and when I try to change the Leading of a text field (frame text) to 20 for example, I get 1.4, or other small random values. Cheers, Chris
  3. I have a layer of place names on a map. I've applied 'MyStyle 1' to them all as I've typed them in. I can change their look by just editing 'MyStyle 1'. So far, so good. If I click the layer, all the place names are selected but if I try to now apply 'MyStyle 2' to them it doesn't work. I have to actually select all the items in the layer to change the applied style. That doesn't seem quite right to my way of thinking. Is this a bug, are the correct way of working?
  4. Hey there, After working on Affinity Designer for a month now. I'm always thrown off by the inconsistency of using shift while scaling an object/text. By default when you scale a text or a group Affinity Designer scales it proportionately without having to hold shift. But if you hold shift you get to do a free form transform on the text or group. However when you select a single object or multiple objects (not group) at once Affinity Designer by default lets you do free form transform. But when you hold shift that changes to scaling it proportionately for a single object or multiple objects (not group). I find this at least in Adobe Illustrator it's consistent with what shift does. I would know always that holding shift will let me scale all things proportionately. How does everyone feel about that? Thanks!
  5. When adding a new text object it is always being added to the top of the artboard rather than where you are actually working at / expecting it to go
  6. When an object style created using the effects panel is applied to text it is applied the the text as a single object. This has undesired effects with specular highlights, lights and bevels. in the attached image I created some artistic text and then below it I typed each letter as an individual object. In the gel text you can see how the top example which is a single typed word the highlights aren't right and the colours from additional lights added via the 3d effect are applied to the text as a whole. I the second gel text example you see how I wanted the style to look. I the cookie example the bevel looks all wrong in the top example and below again with each letter individually typed you see how the effect should look. Note for this report I am not worrying about the squashing of the bitmap fill as I believe that is another issue that has already been reported.
  7. I am a rank beginner in midst of a trial for Designer. Could you give me a step-by step to create a simple piece. Shapes, filled in different colors, say identical rounded rectangles Inside these shapes, simple text in black. Text not to be shape fills or arty type, but plain, linear text. Alignment of these shapes, and the text within the shapes. Desired results: a set of colored shapes with the black text inside them visible over the colored backgrounds. What should be my sequence of layers? I would assume Shape(s) covered by transparent-background text layer(s), but I cannot seem to achieve this. The text layer obliterates the shape. I am clearly doing something wrong, but what? This software seems to be what I want, but I am having a struggle breaking into it.
  8. Hi. I'm a new user to AP, switching from Pixelmator. To open my Pixelmator docs in AP, I'm exporting them as PSD and then opening in AP. But all my text layers show up as paint objects, not text objects and so are uneditable. Is there a way? (Please say yes.) Thanks...
  9. I'm now an official convert to Affinity Photo and love it. Just cancelled my membership with Adobe for Photoshop, I'm that confident it will definitely do everything I need. I do have one question though, I've invested a chunk of change in photoshop styles over the years and would like to continue to use them. Are there plans to allow the import/usages of the Adobe Styles? That would make it 100% perfect for me. Cheers Dan
  10. Hi all, I made a HDR-style wallpaper from my autumn picture in Affinity Photo. I used Tone Mapping persona and Artistic text with effects.
  11. Hi Text used in symbols is not printed correctly. The space between the letters is messed up. It looks fine on the screen. Using the same font in a text block works fine. When I export the file as a PDF the text is not readable anymore. See attached photo/screenshots Thanks for help
  12. Hey guys, Does anyone know if Photoshop 2017 can open svg text as editable text? I really hate Photoshop, I really love Affinity, but I still need some way to provide psd files to some of my clients. So I noticed that if I export text as SVG from Affinity, I can keep it as text, and if I inspect it in any browser, I will get the exact info of the font ( font family, size, color, weight, style, line heights, everything). Can I import such a SVG containing text into Photoshop 2017 and see it as editable text in Photoshop? Did anyone try this? I would pay like an idiot for a Photoshop license monthly just for that, and that will make me hate Photoshop even more
  13. Friends Sometimes exporting a project to SVG results in errors in the resulting file, so when those files are reopened in AfDesign some text disappears or is transparent, or the like. Attached original file and error file.... Help Logo Toledo 2018 30.afdesign Logo Toledo 2018 30e.svg
  14. Hi there, Have recently created a document on Affinity Designer with various text boxes and images throughout for a brochure. I have since saved the document as a PSD and PDF but when I re-open the PSD in Designer my text boxes are now "Pixel" layers and I can't seem to find a way to be able to edit them. I can see a way that I can re-select the text tool to add to the end, or type over my current text (in another layer), but I cannot "edit" the text box that was originally created? Would really appreciate the help with this, Thank you
  15. Letters with a round form should extend past the grid line (see 2.png for correct alignment). AD aligns the rounded forms to the baseline instead (3.png). Grid 8 / 2 Text field height: 24 Leading/Baseline: 16 (illustrator) -4 (AD) I might be doing it the wrong way, so if there's another way of doing it, let me know.
  16. [in this post, I'm guessing the English on-screen text, because I'm using the German version of Affinity Designer 1.5.2.58 on a German 64-bit Windows 7] Strange behaviour 1 (text baseline): The 'Edit text style' dialog doesn't immediately transfer its baseline settings to the selected text. Try the following: Create a new document with a block text containing one paragraph spread over two lines, format this text with the paragraph style 'Heading 1', and keep the block text object selected. In the text styles palette, right-click on 'Heading 1' and choose 'Edit Heading 1' to show the 'Edit text style' dialog. In 'Position and transformation', change the kerning or character distance in permille. The selected text block immediately reacts and shows the desired changes. Wonderful - that's what should happen. Now change the baseline. Nothing appears to happen. Only when additionally changing kerning or character distance (or anything else), the changed baseline settings become visible in the text object. Sometimes, even kerning or character distance changes in one direction (with the up/down arrows) don't do the trick, but one needs to change these in one and the other direction to make it work properly. Set the baseline to a negative value for the time being (e.g., -24pt), ensure that the -24pt baseline is really working properly, and close the dialog with 'OK'. Strange behaviour 2 (text baseline): The 'Edit text style' dialog transfers the current text's baseline into its edit fields with the wrong sign. Try the following: Right-click on 'Heading 1' in the text styles palette, and choose 'Edit Heading 1' to show the 'Edit text style' dialog again. Though the baseline was previously set the minus 24pt, the edit field now shows a positive 24pt. Changing kerning now by some reason keeps the text's negative baseline intact, though a positive baseline is shown in the edit field. When changing the positive '24pt' baseline to '23pt' with the up/down arrows, nothing seems to happen (see above). Changing kerning additionally now makes the baseline jump from the previous -24pt to a real +23pt. Closing the dialog with 'OK' and opening it again now shows a negative 23pt baseline where a positive one should be shown. Change the baseline to zero and make sure changes are accepted to avoid this confusion for now, and close the dialog with 'OK'. Strange behaviour 3 (distance correction): Try the following: Open the dialog again. Note that the baseline is now displayed as minus 0pt, but we will ignore that... The 'distance correction' (or whatever it is called in English) below the baseline is now shown as '0pt', and the two-line text object looks 'normal'. Changing the '0pt' to '1pt' and back again to '0pt' makes the two text lines completely overlap each other, so that the text is unreadable. Changing the distance correction to 'auto' resolves that problem and makes the text appear 'normal' again. It appears that the default setting for the distance correction is 'auto', but that is not what is displayed when opening the dialog. Instead, an apparently wrong '0pt' is displayed, which leads to confusion. Sometimes, after changing the distance correction to some undesired point value, choosing 'auto' from the drop down combo does not transfer 'auto' into the edit field, but leaves the previously entered point value in it, creating additional confusion. Sometimes, even manually typing 'auto' into the edit field and pressing RETURN throws away the manually entered 'auto' text and replaces it by the previously entered point value, making it impossible to ever get the automatic spacing again... Strange behaviour 4 (font attributes): Try the following: Now show the dialog page where one can select the font family and choose a family that has several attributes available, e.g., regular, bold, italic and bold-italic. The font attributes are still set to 'No change'. Now set the font attributes to 'Regular', switch to the dialog page 'position and transformation' (without changing anything there) and back to the page 'font'. Now, the attributes previously set to 'Regular' appear as 'No change' again. For the second time, switch to the dialog page 'position and transformation' (without changing anything there) and back to the page 'font'. Now, the attributes display as 'Regular'. Very confusing... Over the weeks of using that dialog, I found even more than the above confusing things with it, which I just didn't care to put into writing. Anyway, this dialog seems to be quite confusing and unreliable to me, with lots of strange side effects that make predicting its outcome rather difficult... Andreas Weidner
  17. OK I am able to type text on path. All fine and good. My problem is the direction of the text on the path. When I type I would like the text to flow from left to right and at moment its going in the opposite direction as noted by the image I have attached... I imagine I will feel silly when someone explains what it is that I have done.
  18. Right now both Artistic and Frame text tools mishandle Thai language text. Thai has a number of glyphs that go over or under the preceding glyph, like these two which spell the word duu, meaning to look: ดู In Designer, typing those two characters gives ด ู, which is an unreadable garble. Bizarrely, Affinity Photo handles Thai artistic and frame text okay, so the workaround isn't a hard one. But why make any workaround necessary?
  19. I have imported a PDF into Affinity Designer (version 1.60) from a scientific program wherein text is oriented in a circular pattern around a central region (se attached screen shot). The import (or just opening the PDF) works fine and each scientific name is enclosed in a text box. However, when I go to select a text box sometimes it selects the correct text box, but more often it selects one that is >2 text boxes away. I can select each text box in the layers, but I do not understand why I can't do it with the cursor or text tool. I have attached a screen shot of what I mean. The black arrow shows the text box that I was trying to select with the cursor, the red arrow shows the text box that was actually selected. I don't know if this is a bug or just something peculiar with the PDF file. Any help appreciated.
  20. I'm just working my first half an hour with Affinity Designer, but I'm just missing an option to divide floating text into two or more columns. This should be made possible either with combined textframes, paragraph style or textframe options.

    Cannot Edit Text

Hi there, So I was working on a project with text overlaying the photo. It was working for a while and then all of the sudden it would NOT let me edit the text. It kept selecting the bottom layer. Is this a glitch? I have tried everything. Locking the other layers. Selecting the Frame Text Tool. Nada
  22. Hi, What is the difference between TEXT HEIGHT and LEADING OVERRIDE? And why don't 2 lines of text overlap when the text height/leding override is zero? It works very different from photoshop/fireworks. Thanks, Chris
  23. I would like to know how to make sure that the text I place will be a vector. How may I ensure that the text is a vector? Thanks.
  24. In PS, I have a one key action that inserts a text layer that I use as a watermark on photos that I post. I can have over 50 files so this is useful. I tried making a macro in Affinity and got the notice that: "Cannot record "add a frame text" My workaround is to create an Affinity file with the text layer and copy and past that layer but that involved more keystrokes. Any chance you developers are working on this?
