  1. Hi, The linked resources are a great feature in Affinity, but there is any way how I can use that linked resource as a mask for another layer/group? Or link that B&W image in my file (somewhere), and then link(as layer linking) its luminosity to another layer - as a mask or something? I am just trying to move my render composition workflow to Affinity, and linked resources are great, but I have rendered alpha masks and z-depth channels. And would be nice to have them linked and working. Thanks in advance of any suggestion, cheers!
  2. Look at the layer and channel panels on the attached image for details, but basically when I export this image it always exports a combined alpha of all layers and I want the alpha of Sylvester only to be exported, how do I do it in Affinity?
  3. Ok so when i apply a alpha and save as .png all the color channel data in the area with alpha 0 is lost, is there a way to keep the other color channels intact or unaffected by the alpha channel?
  4. Hello, what would be the best way to remove alpha channel pixels from a layer or make them fully opaque? In case I'm not making sense, here's an example: I add some red background and make a stroke with the brush over it with a green color, there's going to be red pixels of the background, green pixels of the brush and pixels that are green with alpha channel - how could I remove those with alpha channel or make them fully opaque? Both GIMP and Photoshop have ways of doing this for whole document, layer or selection, I'm curious how one would do this in Affinity Photo, or even Affini
  5. Would be nice if you could add alpha option to select premultiplied/straight for alpha capable format such as PNG/TIF/TGA. it would make round trip editing with other apps easier. Straight alpha means RGB channels including transparent part will remain untouched without filled with a color. if I open a TGA that's with straight alpha and export as TGA, it will be premultiplied which is pain.
  6. Hello Affinity Forum, I love you software and bought it. From time to time I frequently run into problems with Affinity Photo or Designer. This time I have an issue with affinity photo: So I wanted to import a .tga file, unfortunately it doesn't show up correctly as it seems. Here I created an image to show my problem with this file -> Part.tga: 1. How it looks in IrfanView 2. How it looks in photoshop 3. How it looks in affinity photo My first thought was, that this must be some sort of import bug, or just the channel setting from Affinity. Therefore I
  7. When specifying a color using the color tool (using latest Affinity Designer 1.7.3 ), how can I specify (or obtain) an actual value for the opacity? There is a slider which works fine, however there isn't any numeric value associated with the slider that indicates what percentage of the alpha value you're currently using. Also, the recent colors list doesn't appear to retain the opacity either. How can I input a specific value for the alpha? Getting the RGBA value would be fine, too. So, I just noticed that this behavior with the opacity not showing a percentage value only appears whe
  8. Hello again, can someone please tell me if it is possible to premultiply incoming EXRs with alpha channel? Currently, when I open an EXR the alpha channel is on a separate pixel layer as a black and white mask instead of premultiplying RGB by it or loading the alpha channel into the actual alpha channel under channels...channel channel....channel channel. This requires me to use the Flood Select Tool to get the mask from the alpha layer...^^ not very clean. The EXRs come from Redshift and act normal in PS and Nuke. Affinity Photo 1.7.3 on Win 7 Take care, Dziga
  9. Do Affinity Photo offer the same option as Adobe Photoshop to store composite Alpha channels that QuarkXPress can read. I use frequently the lasso tool to create alpha channels to isolate parts of an image (to isolate the background from an object). In Photoshop this is done under the Select menu. The mask is stored as a channel that you activate in QuarkXPress. I don't get it work in Affinity Photo.
  10. Hi, I'm using Affinity Photo to edit hand painted textures for game use. I'm trying to separate out the painted stuff and generate a clean, solid alpha channel for game use, that is, no grays except for antialiasing at the very edges. In PS, I'd grab the red or blue channel, up the contrast, clean any dust or blips and use that as the alpha. In Affinity, when I try the Filter>Erase White Paper I get a subtle transparency in the stuff that should be opaque, and a subtle haze/translucency in the stuff that should be invisible in the game. Any suggestions for a quick workflow that would c
  11. Hi, Few days back I read a tweet from troy_s (Troy James Sobotka), about "How to check any image editing software that treats the alpha channel from an EXR file correctly?" I checked the file with affinity photo and got different results. Here is the tweet link. Click here You can see how Krita and Fusion treating the alpha channel from the same exr file. And, I have opened the exr and enabled (associate openexr alpha channels - in preference > color). Please check the result in screenshot 2 And i have opened the image after disabling ("associate openexr alpha channels -
  12. In my job I work with PS retouching old book covers. In many case I work with channels and calculations (to mix channels I created). I wanna to make the same things with AP but I can't: In PS I do: 1) I copy a channel (example: red and rename it to "red copy"). 2) I select the recently created channel, double click and can work on it in grayscale (it appears on the viewport) and I just leave a black and white version. 3) When I finish I copy another channel (example blue channel and rename it to "blue copy"). 4) The same process. 5) After finishing the blue copy modif
  13. Hey all, I'm struggling to create and export an Alpha Channel from Affinity Photo (v1.7.1.404) to a CMYK .TIFF image. The image has been masked out and I'm trying to make a named Alpha Channel to be used as a Spot Colour for digital print in an Onyx RIP (To be names 'Spot 1' which refers to a Spot White Ink). Please see the attached screenshot for the masked out area which I'm talking about. I've followed several other posts and YouTube/Vimeo video's and it's just not clicking for me. The image will export as a .TIFF but it won't export an Alpha Channel no matter what I try. M
  14. Hi, I'm using a 3d software package that can only generate texture depths by using the pixels from a PNG alpha channel. In Photoshop this is a straight forward process. You would simply create a new alpha channel in the channels palate, copy the texture map and paste it into the newly created alpha channel. Then save the file as a PNG with the alpha channel option checked. How do you achieve this in Affinity Photo? I have attached two JPG files. What I'm looking to do is make the ROUGH file an alpha channel of the COLOR file. Any advice would be appreciated
  15. Having a curves adjustment with the RGB / Alpha Channel selected and modified has no effect on alpha values on a Pixel layer. As comparison it has an effect when applied to a Mask layer. In the example below, my pixel layer has plenty of partially transparent areas, but no effect with the Curve adjustment.
  16. Semi-automatic masking / masking guide tool for Affinity Photo Here is best example i can find (youtube link) - Zephyr's Masquerade tool is semi-automatic masking tool, user paint guide lines which help algorithm to solve alpha channel. Its very fast, i don't know for sure how it works, but i would guess that those guide lines descrip to the algorithm textures and colors which are wanted (or/and unwanted) for mask. This come to my mind when i saw Adobe's new automatic subject selection demo, where user don't have any control, just some kind of lucky button, so i thought serif could mak
  17. When exporting EXRs from Affinity Photo, the Alpha channel is being exported as unassociated. Opening in other apps I have to convert it to pre-multiplied. Is there an option on Affinity to export EXRs with Associated alpha (premultiplied)?
  18. Look at the layer and channel panels on the attached image for details, but basically when I export this image it always exports a combined alpha of all layers and I want the alpha of Sylvester only to be exported, how do I do it in Affinity?
  19. Hello, need some assistance. - Exporting a masked object always the whole "page" with white background is visible. I tried as tiff and png-24. Enclosed is the file, only the blue rectangle should be visible. Opening the file in photoshop as tiff the channel isn't there. - Is it possible to add a blank layer, means that the background is clear not white, coverage remains 100% Thanks in advance Test.afphoto
  20. Hello, here is a connoisseur / expert, how to work with alpha channels in Photoshop, in order - in this case - to free branches or tree crowns. But I do not know how to proceed with Affinity Photo. The point channel calculations as in PS is not available in AP, but under "Channels" the point "background" for red, green and blue. Also one can create in AP a reserve channel - am I right in assuming that this is analogous to the copy of a mask channel, as it was made in the video? Regards, Martin
  21. Hi there, I noticed that the brush blending mode, despite being available even when painting on an alpha channel, it seems doesn't produce any effect. Simple case: I want to quickly correct a luma matte, painting over some gray values with a brush using black color in overlay mode, in order to affect only the gray areas without compromising the white matte.
  22. Hello Affinity Team :) , it seems that Affinity Photo is not able to load up the Alpha channel from TGA files. example file is available here; https://www.dropbox.com/s/gxhg8ewuo5vbvyx/alpha_channel32bit.tga?dl=0 greetings myclay
  23. Hi, With Affinity Photo having the following issues with TIF files with Alpha Channel: This type of TIF file seems to be treated as RAW; TIF files with Transparencies (masks) in the Alpha Channel are opened as a black image. Embedded Color Profiles are not recognised Are there plans to support TIF files with Alpha Channels?
  24. I 3D rendered an image with a shadow channel, I am trying to remove the background of the rendering with the shadow channel. The screenshot outlines what im trying to achieve using photoshop. Is this possible with Affinity? If so a direction on how to do so would be great!
