Hello I would like to propose a feature that would allow the user to switch between the orginal and the current adjustment of raw image in a faster way. I am aware of the syncing feature but there are times when it just takes a lot of steps to just view the orginal especially if you accidentaly synced the wrong adjustment. This new toggle button feature would just allow a quick way to switch from orginal. In a simple way, this is like a toggle button that disables all the effects/adjustments including the overlays.

Having been using Affinity Photo for nearly a year now I wonder why the same complaint is prevalent. There are so many comments of 'AP is great but' the but referring to the fact that RAW development is destructive. At first it didn't bother me but now I find there are more and more times I would like to go back and tweak my initial raw development but I have to return to the RAW file and start from scratch. I used to hate PS's sidecar file but now realise it's benefit. How hard would it be to implement non-destructive RAW adjustment? This would make it easy to copy the RAW adjustments from one edit and paste in to many files speeding up workflow. From comments I have seen there are many people who will not use AP purely because of this 'issue'. I am looking at another program that has a far better 'RAW' development tool but sadly lacks on the photo editing side as, among other things, it does not support layers. IMHO AP comes second to PS but only because RAW development is destructive, fix that and AP would be number 1.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and apps. I'm coming from using Lightroom Classic, and for the last 10 month dive into Darktable and its scene-referred workflow. I didn't consider Affinity Photo as an alternative to my overall workflow, but, well, I changed my mind :) So today, I came across @James Ritson 's article : RAW actually https://affinityspotlight.com/article/raw-actually/ I've several questions, but here are already 2 :) There is a note about 'hightlight recovery'. It seems neither the Develop persona or the Photo persona have this tool. How would you get around it ? At the beginning if the article, there is a list of step being done on the RAW image before being shown n the develop interface. Is that all the steps or may be more ? (and before the Assistant comes in) Demosaicing Hot pixel remapping Lens corrections Translation to a colour space Gamma correction Tone mapping Somehing I realy like in the develop persona is the use of a very large color space that is also linear and unbounded. I wonder if this could be also use in the photo persona. Thank you :)

Hey guys, I first want to say a massive well done so far, its looking awesome! I don't know if its been mentioned here but I've noticed when testing out RAW files that once you make changes to an image in "Develop" and commit no XMP file is saved out (at least for .cr2 files). I really like XMP files as it provides a non destructive way to edit your files, its a standard across many RAW editors and has great compatibility across many apps. I would also be able to theoretically edit existing files originally edited in other programs right in Affinity its self! I've also noticed you can't go back to the "Develop persona" after committing an edit although reading the warning box suggests this wont be an issue in later builds. I just wanted to know the situation around this topic. Will things be improving or is this the limit to what you can do with RAW files in affinity. Cheers guys :)

Overlay Develop Tool paints other area than where the cursor is.
Guest posted a topic in V1 Bugs found on macOS
Hi! I am using Affinity Photo on macOS Big Sur 11.6 hardware acceleration (in Preferences > Performance) is ON When developing big RAW images, typically after applying Basic / Lens / Details effects, when painting an overlay using either the trackpad or an external mouse, the coordinates seem to be turned around and the overlay gets drawn in a totally different place than where the curor is actually drawing them on screen. (See Screenshot1). -
I have a problem opening RAW files direct, I've tried Sony ARW raw files from my A7iii and Canon CR2 files from my 6D. Affinity Photo crashes immediately after displaying the embedded jpg preview file. I'm running version 1.8.5.703 on Windows 10 v1909. I don't usually open raw files direct as I usually round trip TIFFs from Capture One. If I open the same RAW files using the "Open in Affinity Photo" option in Capture One the RAW opens correctly without crashing. Similarly using the right click "Open with" menu in Explorer opens the RAW without crash. The problem seems to only happen if the file is opened directly from the File - Open menu in AP. Is this a know problem and is there a fix or work around for it?

I just discovered, to my horror, that ORF RAW files are cropped in Affinity Photo. I kept wondering why I was suddenly cutting people's feet off. When I checked the JPG versions, however, all feet are there. Funny thing is, AP shows that the ORF version has a resolution of 5240x3912, while the JPG version shows 5184x3888. When I view the files with the Windows photo viewer, the JPG version is the cropped one, and the ORF shows quite a bit more. So I appear to be losing quite a bit of pixels in AP. Anything I am missing?

Hi, I am trying to batch process a set of files. I like to convert RAW files to TIFF and be able to set various pre-recorded (marco) parameter that are available in the development persona (things like Development Assistant and basic, lens, details, tones) My challenge is that I cannot see how I can record a macro under the development persona. I know how to do it under Photo persona (->view ->studio ->macros) but cannot see how to record the parameters I want to control in development persona (only not Photo persona) and then run onto a batch of files. Under Development Persona if you go to ->view ->studio there is no macros options. An actual example would be much appreciated thank you Arnim

The App develops my photo without warning and without me touching anything. The issue occurs in the middle of edits and the screen blinks and develops my photo prematurely when I'm not touching anything on the screen. Device: iPad Pro 2018 12.9 inch 1TB File: Fujifilm X-Pro 1 RAW file .RAF Video: https://youtu.be/OlfIgFUOSTc It's not a great video as I haven't used Affinity Photo in many months because of this problem, but the issue happens consistently, ie. every single time I edit a RAW file. To just watch the issue, please watch: 2:52 and 12:16.

I recently updated Affinity photo to version 1.7.2. After updating, the lens correction for my Olympus 8mm f/1.8 fisheye does not appear to be doing anything. Prior to updating, the automatic lens correction would straighten out the distortion from the fisheye lens, and the image in the develop persona appeared quite different depending on whether the automatic lens correction was enabled or not. Now, the image appears almost unchanged, whether the automatic lens correction is enabled or disabled. Affinity correctly identifies the lens, but it seems like the information on how to remove the distortion has been lost from the lens profile. I have tried changing the setting in the Develop Assistant from "Apply Lens Correction" to "Take no action". After that I've tried checking the box under Lens Correction, and it changes the image almost imperceptibly. Previously, it was a quite noticeable change when I did this. Has anyone else experienced this or know what should be done to fix it? Or, alternatively, what am I doing wrong? Thanks!

XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles) is a must for professional RAW editing in Affinity Photo! Urgent! ....Every time we need to RE-develop the same photo we need to do it all over again???! This is not professional at all! The Editing profile file should be placed in the same folder as the original RAW, every time we develop a photo. We should even have an option (like in photoshop) to only save the XMP without develop it. ...for later, without losing time. Because, by the way, Affinity photo is slow in this process compared to photoshop camera raw editor.

See video attached, the only difference between the technicals of the two images I tried are the lenses used and the date/time taken, my camera is in NZST and iPad is on EST, other than that there’s no technical difference between the raw files. They both open and edit normally using the Apple’s CIR engine. IMG_0174.MP4

Hi, When I open a raw file taken with my Nikon D810, the photos look very flat and dull. Is this normal behavior with RAW files or am I doing something wrong? When I open them in other applications, they look as I would expect them to. I've attached a screenshot and a copy of the RAW file to help troublshoot my quesiton. Left is a different application (whose name shall not be mentioned) and Affinity Photo is on the right. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I'm using Affinity Photo for Windows version 1.6.5.123 and my computer is on Windows 10 with 32gigs of memory. Chris Copy of the original raw file. Fall-2018-photoshoot-1056 - Copy.NEF

Hello all I evaluate AP 1.7 as a replacement for Lightroom but run in some very basic problems with raw file development. 1. When I develop one single raw file (DNG from Lightroom) AP writes a huge file (121MB versus 19MB original). This is no good. Is there a way to save the adjustments done in a fair way without using the alternative formats like tif, jpg etc. ? 2. I want to develop several raw files (DNG from Lightroom) at once with a batch process and saving them in jpg or tif for further processing. However, I do not manage to apply the individually made macro in Photo Persona to process the RAW files in Photo Develop, although I can select the macro. Possibly the macros are not compatible? How can I process several raw files the same way? 3. Is it still not possible in AP to save adjustments made in single raw files in an undestructive way? Thank you for your helpful answers. Best regards,

I just started shooting RAW (CR3) with a new camera (Canon 90D) and noticed some artifacts when developing from the Develop persona. The images are large (32 MP), so occasionally it takes half a second for the changes to propagate to the image. For example, I will modify the shadows/highlights and for half a second the image will scan (or pixelate) as the changes are applied. Sometimes when I do this I notice large, slightly discolored squares as if the effect wasn't completely applied. For an image of this size, the squares are probably around 500px to 1000px on each side. I can fix it by modifying the slider again, but when I actually press "Develop", the squares usually return. On one image I was able to remove it, but on another it had 3-4 of these discolored squares so I had to reopen it to make the changes in the Develop persona again. My graphics card is always up-to-date and I'm also using the latest version of Affinity Photo.

I want to deliver uncompressed 16-bit TIFF files to a client (unfortunately, I don't know the specifics on how they will be printed, like size, paper stock, etc..,) so I would like to give them the best image I can, then they can do what they need to on their end to meet their print needs. So I'm trying to work out the best workflow. There are 12 images I need to deliver, so I was going to batch process them into 16-bit TIFF files (from the RAW files), then open them in Affinity Photo to edit. Keeping in mind that AP can't export uncompressed TIFFs, what's the best workflow from this point? Open in AP, edit, save as TIFF with layers, then flatten, and deliver as is? Assuming that the TIFF I'm working with is uncompressed. Or , edit, save as TIFF with layers, then open in Preview and save as an uncompressed TIFF? Is there anyway to work with the photo in AP's file format, then get it back to an uncompressed TIFF? Not sure if I'm over complicating things, but all I really want to do is Take my RAW file, edit in Affinity Photo, and deliver an uncompressed TIFF. (The client actually requested a EPS file, because they will use Illustrator at some point, but that's not my problem lol.) Thanks for the help.

running AP 1.8.4, but AP still does not recognize any lens profile for LX 100 M2. I added "Leica DMC-LX100 & compatible" to my favourites in order to quickly apply a suitable profile manually. In Develop Assistent I also set Lens Profile Default to "last used". This helps some way. I'm not sure that "Leica DMC-LX100 & compatible" yields the best possible adjustment. So what is the current state with LX100M2?

No matter how hard I try, I am still not able to edit NIKON Z6 II RAW files in the Affinity Photo. Exactly the same problem with NIKON Z50 RAW files. Already installed the Nikon NEF codec pack from the official website and also tried the Adobe DNG Converter. Still no luck. With the DNG plugin other software such as Zoner Photo Studio, XnView or Nikon Capture-NX can display and edit the Z50 RAW files, but the images are so hideous - under exposed, very grey and strangely coloured. Any idea how to fix this? All kinds of help heavily welcomed - thank you !!! I was following James Ritson's first tutorial Jump into Affinity . I uploaded the RAW image, and the program switched (correctly) to the Develop persona. Once developed, it was fine, and I was able to follow all the instructions. However, before it was developed, while still in Develop persona, it looked like this, with the sun part of the image blown out as can be seen. Can anyone explain why this might happen? Is it to do with my graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 620)?
