    Free Affinity Artwork files.

Hi, I am providing the source files of these two arts. One of them, with which I participated in the affinity photo contest. Soon,i will post more works. I hope you enjoy! Files can be downloaded here Best Regards, Heli Herrera
  2. Hey there, first of all I would like to compliment the Affinity team for such a fantastic work on the user interface of both of the apps. They're really beautiful and feel really native and modern. A lot of little details make them a joy to work with. I have one question though, and it's related to the one thing that has bothered me a bit: I have a Retina MBP, and on both Affinity Photo and Designer, as I'm painting, moving objects around or typing, I get these "pixelated"/non-retina visuals that stay on for like half a second, before the normal "retina" graphics come back. My understanding is that this is some sort of optimization to make the interface more responsive and real time as you edit the document. Is that correct? If so, is it possible to disable this optimization entirely? I found it to be really distracting, and I'd rather have the document update be a little slower than have the whole viewport switch between retina/non-retina graphics constantly. Note: I'm currently on El Capitan Beta, so I had to install the Affinity Photo and Designer Betas. This could also be an issue with the betas/something that is not on the release versions... In that case should I report a bug? I can provide a screen capture if you can't reproduce this issue. Thanks.
  3. Okay so after much googling I cannot for the life of me locate the context menu. I want to convert a path to a selection. This is a little frustrating. I've attached a screen cap of my workspace. I think its the menu that comes up in the top giving contextual information about the tool I currently have selected. Bu I cannot find a convert to selection option in it for the pen tool. Is it somewhere else, or do I need to covert the path to curves? UPDATE: Okay so I found it, if you have the node selection tool active it doesn't so up. But if you have the pen tool it is visible.
  4. I am making a design in Photo, and using the Persepctive tool for text. However right after clicking on it, the text goes blury, and now says pixels by the layer name. When i export its no longer blury... But how do i get it to appear as it would when i am just working on it?

    Woodland Creature

I saw the video on Layer Blend Options and wanted to try something with that, along with masks. I got a little carried away. The full project is 182 MB. The eyes make it look a little like Fozzy Bear from the Muppet TV show.
  6. I can't figure out why the Vignette filter (live) is actually not doing anything at some photos. Here is an example where just nothing happens when i fiddle around with the sliders. In another photo the vignette filter is working just fine. What am i possibly overlooking here?
  7. I tried to use as many of the brushes as I could. Starting with a black background saved me a lot of work. Keeping foreground, mid ground, and background in separate layers also helped a lot. The texture brushes are a blast to use.
  8. Take a look at this! I made a feathered selection and inverted it. Then I tried to increase the brightness, using the exposure in the develop persona. Here is what happened. The first image is how it looks before touching the exposure slider. The second is the bug. Quite a mess...
  9. I tried to keep the total time below 2 hours and 1 Brush. This is based on a photo of the waterfall that run through the center of Camden Maine. I am liking the speed and responsiveness of the brushes, and the program in general. Fast and so far no crashes or problems. Very good.
  10. I'm hoping I'll have more luck with this question regarding Affinity Photo. Has anyone tried refining a selection after you've added a B&W layer to your photo? Looks like the red overlay becomes B&W too and to my eyes it's hard to tell where the mask begins and ends. I try to disable the B&W layer, but then the mask disappears. I have to exit refine selection and click again on Refine on the top toolbar and then I get my red overlay back. To the developers - 1. Was this the intended behaviour - at least the part where overlay also becomes B&W? 2. Are you able to recreate the disappearing overlay issue when you switch off the B&W layer? This surely must be a bug.

I'm going home, to where I belong

What I love about compositing is the ability to make it look as natural as possible, of course there are times where its obvious and that's the look your going for. Love how easy Affinity photo made this for me. This is made up of 4 pictures, love the black and white look I was able to achieve. Allan
  12. I have a quite large file in AP, sized A2 filesize about 140megabytes. Choosing Export to pdf and the destination goes alright, but then nothing happens. It just shows the progress bar which never gets anywhere. I waited a couple of minutes and force quit the app. Export to jpg goes alright.
  13. Hi everyone, I have been self publishing my first book, it is an origami tutorial ebook, everything goes well but recently both the Affinity Photo Beta and Affinity Designer Trial I using to process the photo diagram and designing the book have been expired, I want to continue my work with both apps but I can't afford to buy them. I tried to use other free open sources but their difficult interface and poor performance plus I have to relearn everything in this short time really didn't work for me! I have made a fundraiser page to collect donation to buy those apps. total $100 is needed, 5 dollar or 1 dollar per person will helped me a lot to get my goal. I will get my application result to university soon and later will start my university life if the application success. After that, I will have no time to make it. So, I hope I can get helped as soon as possible. Thanks and appreciated! 14. I am using both Designer and Photo on my MacBook Pro. I am wondering if owners of the software can install them on more than one computer? Essentially to use as a backup when out of the office and on the road. I also have a MacMini mid-2010. I would be using it either on one or the other computer, but not at the same time. Thanks in advance. Scott Hughes
  15. Hi, i think i found a bug: I'm using Lightroom (Version 6) I have set Affinity Photo as Editor, so i can right-click an image in Lightroom to "edit in - Affinity Photo". Now two things happen, depending on which picture format you set up in Lightroom for the external editor. a) If you set it to TIF, you can edit the picture in Affinity Photo and if you save, the changes are transfered over to Lightroom as expected. fine. BUT: You cannot deal with Layers! If you have added layers, you will get a message when you try to save it - If you OK it, the link to Lightroom is lost. Only work-around: Flatten the Image (to one layer) before saving it. Bad as you cannot come back to edit it again later. b) If you set it to PSD, you can edit the picture BUT again, if you have layers you have a problem. And If you doesn't have layers the link to Lightroom is broken too - you always will get a Save-As-Dialog As far as i know, PSD is a kind of TIF and both are able to hold layers. Shouldn't Affinity Photo able to save the layers within either format and still be compatible to Lightroom? I'm really missing that. I'm not 100% sure but i think this works with one of the betas?
  16. Hi, i made a RAW file look fine in develop persona, clicked on develop and something magic happend: the result looks very bad as you can see in the attached files. I tried a few things and found out, that this only happens if the lens correction tool is unchecked. Open RAW file, develop, everything is OK. Open RAW file, uncheck lens correction, develop, nothing is OK. RAW files from EOS 350D, 20D and 40D, all the same Problem. Sure, there is a simple workaround but i think this should not happen. regards Ulli Werner PS.: I am not sure if "lens correction" is the right term because i'm using the german version. In the german version the feature is called "Objektivkorrektur"
  17. Is it possible to have this shortcut/function? I found it more easy to navigate and zoom in and out, rather than cmd/+ cmd/-.
  18. How can I save a file from affinity photo to jpg (300 dpi). Right now when I am export to jpg, the dpi is 96.
  19. Something I use in the other app a lot is to do a screen capture to clipboard, then when I type Command-N the new document window opens with the size of my capture as the default (based on the clipboard). Then I just paste the capture into the new document. See attached as an example.

    New Website Header

Here is a cropped version of the new header graphic for the band's website. The full header is part of the new "responsive" site design, which will go live in a few days. All the work on the site is being created in AD and AP. I'll post a link to the site once it's live. Cheers!
  21. I have created a paperback book cover in Affinity Photo, and now I want to export it as PDF to send it to the printer. I cannot figure out how to export a PDF that looks anything like what I see in Affinity Photo. (Nor can I export anything that looks right in any other format, for that matter.) Here is a screenshot of what the cover looks like in the Export Persona: Here is what the PDF (for print) preset produces (I made no adjustments to the preset): donation-cover-paperback.pdf This export appears to include the one pixel layer from the document, with at least some of the adjustments applied to turn the bills from dollar-bill color to blue. I cannot explain the grainy waviness. I have some fill layers, which either do not appear in the PDF or appear as white. My document has a layer mask that fades the edges of the pixel layer into the background fill layer, but it does not appear to fade here. The text (in layers above the fills and pixel layers) does not appear at all. The original image is dollar-bill colored dollar bills, with a certain amount of focus blur, but otherwise no fuzziness. Here is what the TIFF RGB 8-bit preset produces (I made no adjustments to the preset): donation-cover-paperback.tiff This appears to be the adjusted image, but without the text, and without the layer mask that fades the edges of the image. Again the text is completely missing. JPEG export looks similar to TIFF. I get these results from the "page" predefined slice in the Export Persona, and from the File -> Export command. The only thing I've been able to do that seemed to work is to merge the document into a single layer, then export that as PDF. I'm not sure I want to rasterize the text (I have never sent the printer rasterized text before, and am unsure whether the results will be what I want). Any clues about where I'm going wrong?
  22. Affinity Designer shows great promise, so looking forward to trying the beta of Affinity Photo. Please have a plugin capability to Nik (Google), OnOne, and other photo plugs can be brought to Photo.
  23. Good day to everyone, I have started to use Affinity Photo a few days ago. I am curently working on a project where I need to place some objects without background. Affinity Photo works good so far (concerning selection tools). But I have an issue with export. Tiff doesn't work at all. PSD has "sketchy" edges. Only PNG works, but pictures are supposed to be printed. What shall I do? Please, see attached picture. Thanks Jan

    The Spaceman

Hi, I've been spending some time with Affinity Photo and loving the results i'm getting. Here is something that I've worked on today, enjoy. #TheSpaceman. Allan
  25. Hello Affinity team, I cannot tell if this is by design or just an oversight in regards to Designer and Photo… I am unable to add any guides to the document while any tool is selected other than the black arrow move tool. While working and wanting to quickly throw in a guideline, I find it to be an interruption to have to switch a tool just to add a guide to a specific location, I feel like it should always be available to drag onto the canvas at (well, almost) anytime. If a tool other than the black arrow is selected, the ability to add guides does work using the guide manager as a workaround, however using the guide manager is not nearly as fluid and can be cumbersome compared to the natural maneuver of just dragging it in where you want it. Tested using latest builds as of July 25, 2015 Thank you
