  1. A warm hello to the forum - this is my first post 🙂 I need help concerning exporting my (very first self layouted) fotobook from Publisher to a PDF document for printing. Regardless of all the different PDF settings I tried, the horizontal separation line I placed beetween the pagination doesen't get rendered? It seems that the line gets reduced to a small point in the PDF document...? I have onother (black) line on my spread (left side), which gets rendered perfectly well in the output. The lines were drawn with the pen tool in 0.5pt (no fill & white stroke) and is grouped together with the page numbers. Is this a defect or am I something missing? BTW, if I rasterize the line, everything is fine. Still, I don't want to change that on 250+ pages... Any help appreciated, thanks in advance. Robert
  2. Hi Folks Absolutely loving Publisher. However ... ... I'm trying to insert a link to a phone number as a URL in a pdf. For the link to work the format should be something like "tel:+44123456789". The only available (and appropriate) option in Publisher to create this link is URL. However if you put "tel:+44123456789" as the URL then the exported pdf contains the link "https://tel:+44123456789", which is invalid. I believe either 1) the output URL should be formatted correctly or 2) a URL of the format "tel:+44123456789" should flag as invalid at the time of input (if the URL box is not intended to hold a phone number). See also this thread ... Link for telephone numbers. Publisher version 1.7.3, MacOS Mojave 10.14.6.
  3. Hi All, I've been following this thread as I have ran into similar issues. After updating to Affinity Designer 1.8.1 my PDF exports tripled in size and text was no longer selectable. Just updated to 1.8.2, I can get file size down, but am still not able to get selectable text on the PDF export. Any suggestions?
  4. Hi all, Thanks for taking a moment to read. Sincere apologies if I have posted in the wrong area - I'm entirely new here! I had been working on the 1.8.0.55-something beta and migrated over to 1.8.0 yesterday (and 1.8.1 this morning) and since the change, my PDF export file sizes have increased dramatically. Before the switch, my PDF was exported as "PDF for export" at 144 DPI and it was around 30 MB. It's a 116 page document. Now, even if I use PDF small size at 72 DPI, it's 120 MB. Not to mention the export takes minutes instead of seconds. The PDF is 10% larger than the AFPUB. Colour me confused! I have experimented with different settings and I can't seem to get the file size back down to something manageable. I think it might be an issue of my lack of understanding but I'm just not sure. I've done my best to resolve it on my own through forums and tutorials but I'm coming up empty. Any guidance that could be offered would be most appreciated. March_Catalog_Working_File.afpub
  5. When trying to export my publication, I get an error message saying there was an error on exporting to PDF. If I export as a spread, no error. If I do pages, there's an error. It's a 99 page project, I spent an hour exporting ranges of pages and found if I do 1-84, no error, but 1-85 causes an error. I converted everything on p85 to curves and tried again, still an error. Oddly, I can export 85-99 without an error. So, no idea what's going on here. Help! Shadowrun_Genesys_v1_-_Final.afpub Fonts.7z
Was soll das?
  7. I have the following problems with the upgrade of 1.8.1 which I did directly from the same Publisher programmme. 1. Prepapring a PDF for printing with 1.8.1 ends up weighing not twice but three times more! I had to make a correction on a document I made last year that weighed only 274 MB. I made a correction on the text, and now the same document, following the same settings I used before when exporting as a PDF file for prining, weighs 1,23 GB!!! 2. Problems importing PDF files into your document. This problem I've had since the very beginning with every Affinity programme. I produce a monthly magazine and most of the adverts are sent as PDF files. Every single programme in Affinty (Designer, Photo and Publisher) completely deconstructs PDF files and sorts them out as layers, and if you don't have the exact same font as the one in the pdf, it will replace it for another. The only way I could work this out, is by converting the PDF files into images—using Photoshop! 3. I don't know if pre-flight was available before, as I never noticed it—but with version 1.8.1 it's mandatory! It opens all the time, and according to your pre-flight everything you have done is wrong (all buttons are orange or yellow)! The problem is that all the mistakes it detects are proper names, the names of cities, foreign words or any word that doesn't have a meaning in the English language (which is the one I use). So a name like MacHale, the spelling checker will ask you to change it into 'manhole' or some such absurdity. Is there a way to avoid having the spelling checker check spelling to proper names, cities and/or foreign words? Again, with version 1.8.1 the pre-flight signaled with a red button something wrong with an image, but no explanation. It happened to be a PDF image as mentioned in the above point. So I had to convert the PDF into an image, and then place it back in the document. The pre-flight red button then disappeared. Oddly enough, this same PDF image had been used last year and sent to the printer with no problem. Now PDF images pose a problem with version 1.8.1. 4. This isn't a bug, but rather a question. I have to send a document to the printer by the end of the month, and can't wait another 6 months until these bugs are fixed, so is there anyway of downgrading to a previous version? Do I have to first bin the 1.8.1 version an then re-install an older version? I haven't checked Photo or Designer upgrades yet, but for the time being these are the bugs/problems I have with Publisher 1.8.1. Please I need a reply asap, as I have to send a document to the printer by the end of the month! Best wishes!
  8. Hey! I have found a quite annoying issue: The PDF export is wrong with certain constructions like this one - so that I have to expand the stroke and/or bake the corners before exporting. The exported PNG looks always fine, but the PDFs (tried various export presets) are always wrong: PNG vs. PDF See also the attached files. Hope this can be fixed - for now I have to double and triple check every PDF before sending. All the best, Chris pdf.afdesign PDF.pdf
  9. Hello, When I try to open a pdf (17xA1, pdf version 1.3, pdf producer- Adobe pdf library 15.0, app-adobe indesign cc13.1 mac) some of the pages seem sliced with text as image and then editable text overlayed so I am unable to replace the text without having to remove and recreate the rasterized text slices. how can I open a pdf correctly. I can send a pdf I am having problems with via private link if possible. Regards Chris
  10. A path along the nodes (A:0,0) -- (B:1,1) -- (C:2,0) -- (B:1,1) -- (D:2,2) cuts out the segment (B) -- (C) upon exporting to PDF. This bug is extremely annoying and still present in 1.8.2.0 beta..! testcase.afdesign testcase.pdf
  11. Hello guys Am I the only one who actually needs the PDF/X-1a:2001 format instead of the available PDF/X-1a:2003? I'm sending these files to an online printing service and they accept only PDF/X-1a:2001 in order do skip their revision fee. Is there a way around this? A future feature update? Thanks (sorry if this is a duplicate post - searched but didn't find anything)
  13. PDF exports saved into an iCloud Drive Affinity folder do not reopen with the Preview app, but the Affinity app that initially created the PDF. Assumptions: - I have an iCloud account set with iCloud Drive and Affinity Publisher, Photo and Designer applications have set their own folders in there. - PDF files genuinely open with the Preview app by default on my Mac. However: From any Affinity app, if you export any kind of PDF file into an iCloud Drive Affinity folder, when you double-click on it, it will not open with the Preview app, but with the Affinity app that initially created the export file. Strangely enough, in the Finder, if I right click on the PDF, the default app to open PDF is set to Preview. And it opens with Preview if I click again Preview from this contextual menu. But, if I straight double-click on the PDF, it will open the Affinity app that initially created it. If the PDF is then moved away from the iCloud Drive Affinity folder to anywhere else, it will then open properly with the Preview app if I double click on it. I managed to replicate this issue with all 3 Affinity apps running v1.8.1, on an iMac and a MBP both running Mojave. Grateful if someone can replicate this issue too.
  14. Warning for output condition by Affinity Publisher "For preflight with PDFX-ready preflight profiles, a warning about the output condition for PDF/X files of Affinity Publisher V1.7.1 and V1.7.2 will be displayed with the message "!output condition not recommended for printing (unknown ICC profile)" is generated. The MD5 checks totals of the Affinity Publisher output conditions do not match the values of the Orignal ICC profiles. There is a risk that subsequent color servers or output systems will also use these hash values to determine whether the output condition matches the desired target profile. If they are not the same, a color conversion is triggered. Among other things, the black structure of the original changes." Source: https://pdf-aktuell.ch/pa/language/de/warnung-bei-ausgabebedingung-von-affinity-publisher/?highlight=affinity%20pdf Is this a known problem? For me, this error can be reproduced 100%. The fact that Publisher does not 100% passes the standard test for PDF/X compatibility after the Ghent PDF Output Suite 5.0 (source: https://pdf-aktuell.ch/pa/language/de/katastrophale-pdf-x-4-kompatibilitaet-von-neuem-affinity-publisher/?highlight=affinit) would not be so important to me, because otherwise the publisher will deliver good PDF results. But the output-conditions should be right.
  15. I am using AFPub 1.7.3. I want to edit items on pages from pdf documents in my genealogy files.. I have been printing the desired page as a pdf document to the desktop and then dragging it onto the AfPub icon at the bottom of my iMac screen. I click ... Open. I have also tried Open from under File at the top of the window. The apostrophes become the letter "g" like this ... When I look back at my fathergs life, especially before the last couple years, it was a very good life. and quotation marks become ... The movie _The Graduate` got it right in just one word and _Plastics` was magic in the 1960s. There are multiple text boxes, some overlapping, which make editing more difficult. Sometimes when trying to type new words, the letters spread wide and don't maintain correct spacing. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Then using a new (page 1.pdf) page I opened it with the Times font. It was not good with symbols replacing some letters. I tried again in the (Missing font) message and to (Replace Lucinda Grande) which I THINK was the original replacement text. It resulted in the same scrambled replacement even though I again used a new pdf page. When opening with no "Replace missing fonts, I get the (Missing Font 2) message. It is still random symbols mixed with letters. (Copy and paste) from the original pdf into a text box in AfPub is still bad. The font is corrupted in some way. I thought a pdf document is a pdf document and there should not be a problem. My "little problem" is now a "bigger problem!" I have almost 500 pages in one genealogy line and 270 in another genealogy lineage. I will have more to edit as future events arise. I hope to not have to retype very many. I hope someone will be able to help. page 1.pdf
  16. (This subforum is not really the right place for this, but I’d like to have it found where people might look for it.) As most of you are aware, the Affinity apps can’t handle included fonts in PDFs, they always try to parse the PDF and do a good job about that, except they can’t use the embedded fonts but try to replace them with fonts installed/active on your system. Often you don’t have these fonts and must not replace them, e.g. if you get ads from a customer. There’s no possibility (yet) to “just place” a PDF as an image. You could rasterize the PDF into a high resolution bitmap – but not with one of the Affinity apps, and if you wanted to use Photoshop, you wouldn’t use Affinity... The best solution is to convert the text in curves. You can do that with Acrobat Pro, but I am here to avoid “Clay” apps. It’s easy with GhostScript on the command line: gs -dNoOutputFonts -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -o Myfile_nofonts.pdf Myfile.pdf Or to convert all files in a folder: for PDF in *.pdf; do gs -dNoOutputFonts -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -o "${PDF/.pdf/_nofonts.pdf}" "$PDF"; done You must first change into that folder, of course. And have GhostScript installed; you can get it via HomeBrew or MacPorts (there are also binary packages around I guess). (EDIT: The quotes around $PDF are necessary if your file names contain spaces.)
  17. 20. Many printers/publishers provide downloadable PDF export settings in Acrobat’s joboptions format. My wish: make Publisher (or the whole suite, respectively) able to either import these, or export their own export settings file.
  21. Super newbie here! I've ordered the book (Designer), but in the meantime, trying to figure things out and didn't come up with anything in the Help files. I'm designing sewing patterns to be printed and cut out/pieced together. Could someone point me in the direction of a tut or instructions on how to create a multi-page file please? I'll be exporting as a PDF and will need several pages for the entire pattern. Thanks in advance!
  22. I've been having problems with a placed PDF. For some reason it loses the images that are on the front. Other pages of the PDF seem to be OK. How it should look: How it looks when placed:
  23. Hello, I am working on a JavaScript Manuel reference. I created the table of content in Affinity Publisher and the headings get updated automatically. However, when I export it to PDF, I cannot click on the table of content headings to get me to the spesific area of the page. I also tried to add interactivity to it. But I don't know how ? How can I link the headings when I export in PDF ? Thank you Linking-Headings.mp4
  24. In the PDF export process of Affinity Designer, I have a custom Preset. Is there a way that I can export this so that I can bring it back in at a later date if necessary (e.g. after reinstating a system backup)?
  25. Hi guys! I have a problem I cannot really understand. Hope that someone can explain how to make it better: I crated some pages with some text & some symbols. Normal work ... After finishing I created a pdf file which looks great on my screen and sent this pdf to a printing press. The result was bad. The symbols have a dark background. The thing I do not understand ist WHY? I used the same symbols before with InDesign and the result was ok and printable. Same symbols with publisher: not ok. Pls see the pics to get a better idea what I mean. The pen is an imported PNG-file. The plate is a clipboard copy from affinity photo. I talked to the printing press hotline. They told me that there are transparent parts included and responsible for my problem. So I rastered the images and sent a testfile to them: same result :-( Software was: Publisher 1.7.3.481 Any idea to solve the problem? Thanks a lot, Charlie
