  1. Hey! I am wondering whether it is possible to place a PDF document without having the fonts replaced automatically. My question is now: Is (or will there be) there an option to convert all text to curves when placing a PDF document in AP? Would save a lot of time. Now I have to convert such PDFs before in another (open source) vector program to preserve its appearance. Affinity Designer doesn't provide this option either. Best regards, Chris
  2. I'm using Affinity Designer on Mac. Some fonts are missing from an .ai file that I'm working with. I'd like to figure out the names of the font files that are missing. Google tells me that the names of the missing fonts should show up in something called the character panel.. I can't find this panel. And if I google further I can't find out how to find the panel. So exactly do I discover the names of the missing fonts?
  3. I started a thread in feedback on font organization but now honestly this issue has turned into a bug or a glitch and wanted to address it here. My original request/complaint was that Affinity Publisher (or any Affinity product) could handle font organization better, grouping the widths together as a condensed/normal/extended format. Adobe does it this way and it works well. Now however, I sent feedback to a font foundry because I thought they had mislabeled SemiExpanded to be wider that Expanded. They told me it was the case with my software not their font. I looked again and realized they were correct and want to share a screen grab from Affinity and another from Photoshop to compare. Please see how the weights and widths organization is messy but the optical illusions of the widths. It seems the word length is squeezing down the sizes as well. Since Affinity Publisher is a master layout assembly tool especially where typography plays a critical role, and where many designers use thousands of fonts and many superfamilies that are extremely difficult to navigate through in the current font organization scheme, I ask for the fonts to be displayed as they are with Adobe. This would help tremendously. I love Affinity products but this is issue a thing to deal with.
  4. My understanding is that the PDF specification allows an attachment to be included in a PDF file. Adobe Reader allows one to extract the attachment(s) from a PDF file that contains one or more attachments. Could Affinity Publisher please have the facility to include an attachment in a PDF file when it is produced? I have a reason for this request. I read recently that (some? many? all?) desktop publisher programs will not allow the editing of a PDF using a font embedded in the PDF unless the font is also installed on the computer. I appreciate that that is to protect the intellectual property rights of font producers and I do not object to that at all and I hope that nobody purports that this request is to circumvent that protection of intellectual property rights. However, if the producer of the font is the also author of the PDF document and the font is for a specialist purpose, it would be helpful to be able to include the font as an attachment to the PDF as well as it being embedded in the PDF and that would be entirely lawful. I appreciate that if the PDF is made available from a website then the font could also be made available from the same website. Yet when sending items to the British Library for legal deposit, the PDF can be included in the catalogue but, as I understand it, the font cannot. So having the font embedded in the PDF would greatly help in archiving for the future. I note however that the British Library does accept fonts for legal deposit as long as they are published. I have deposited various fonts for legal deposit at the British Library and it is likely that I was the first person to do. I appreciate that including this facility will take work, yet I do not how much work. So it is a partly a matter of how long it would take to include and how difficult a task it would be to do it William
  5. This is the second time I am writing about terrible support for Khmer fonts in the Affinity suite. The first time I wrote, I provided sample fonts and images to show how the fonts are supposed to be rendered. AD and AP still do not have it corrected. I have up to this point been a fanboy for Affinity products, telling lots of people about Affinity. Yet the over the course of many and major updates, this problem, which is a show-stopper for my using Affinity, has not been corrected. And I know others in this forum have requested this problem be fixed as well. As a Khmer speaker, I am still willing to provide any support or files needed to facilitate fixing these bugs. Here is my previous topic that I posted in the forum. It was nicely marked (pre-1.7), and yet 1.7 has not fixed the issue. Thanks. Adam EDIT: I am working in MacOS Mojave.
  6. In an AffPub doc that I created I used Goudy Old Syle throughout. When my colleague opens it on his computer (which has Goudy Old Style) the entire doc comes up with a different font (Ariel or Helvetica?). However, AffPub font does not show the replaced font name, nor is there any message in AffPub before it changes the doc font that I sent him but ?Goudy. This is very disturbing and must have an explanation although I can find nothing on the forum. My AffPub doc should maintain the same font and formatting when opened by a different user on a different computer (both Macs).
  7. When attempting to import Agfa Rotis and use it, only the semisans in the family is usable. The import appears to work, but I can’t actually select it in Text Studio. If i then load the font locally using Anyfonts, I can use it in other programs. I’m new to fonts. Please help.
  8. Hi there! I’ve uploaded a few fonts to my Google Drive in order to install them using the Affinity D (iPad) font installation feature. Problem is: all font files appear greyed-out and not-selectable. There’s nothing I’ve tried that managed to change/fix this. Now, is this an Affinity D bug on the iPad? Or is it an Apple issue? Anyone experiencing this as well? Thanks in advance for any help!
  9. To whom might know.. hell o I’m looking for a broadway font texture. I’m using Design on my iPad.. I’ve been able to find some textures but not many.. and yes I’m work on a no budget plan.. sorry. Thanks for any help, Dan
  10. I've noticed that all the Affinity applications have trouble with the Contextual Alternates feature (on by default). The 'error' occurs when the entered text has an initial capital. Specifically when the applications auto capitalise the first word. All OK in Adobe applications etc.
  11. Congratulations to Serif and the Publisher team on release! In very early use, I'm noticing that Publisher 1.7.1 is not seeing all the fonts installed on my Mac. I don't notice a particular pattern, though I haven't yet looked hard. In particular, "Book Antiqua" is MIA, though it is verifiably active on my Mac. (2017 MBPro, High Sierra.) Thank you for the release.
  12. Hi Affinity, While I love the way OpenType features are handled much better than in Adobe, I really cannot navigate font superfamilies. If you have any family that has different weight groups then navigating through the font list is very difficult. Can you guys please fix the font organization. It really slows down my work otherwise. I am showing screenshots for one particular font family. I have licensed countless superfamilies and I really don't like working with them in Affinity products for this reason.

  14. Hi, Feeling a bit daft and its driving me nuts, When I create a document in design using letters with styles (wood effect, etc) in affinity its sharp, as soon as I import it (pdf) its pixelated when I enlarge it. This only happens when I use styles not when I use curves or flat letters. I've changed rgb settings, document size, everything. What am I doing wrong please. Thanks Just noticed, this happens with any effect on anything (curves, fonts with 3D etc)
  15. Hi, I'm trying to load a PDF from a notation software. But 1. Preview reads it 100% 2. Designer looses all ICONS 3. Graphic has icons but text is no GOOD. Dorico-Quick-Reference-Card.pdf
  16. Hello, dear folks at SERIF. Hello, dear DTP and Artwork Compatriots. One of the slight niggles – besides the lack of GLOBAL LAYERS (VERY important) – I am missing the direct implementation of Monotype's FontExplorer Po. I KNOW it's an early beta, but it would be lovely to know if you guys already "speak" with Monotype to get a PlugIn sorted as FontExplorer is one of the most used FMS in the Designer World. Thanks and regards, Holger BASICS & DETAILS LTD
  17. As soon as I call the NIK plugins, the fonts are updated and Affinity Photo 1.7 needs to be quit without any way to save the former work. Any ideas?
  18. Hi, Please add custom folder to Affinity Photo, from where it recursively load fonts (.ttf and .otf). We setup our windows with sccm and put all fonts to Adobe fonts folder (for InCopy or InDesign), but since affinity can't use font from there, we have to use additional fontmanager or install same fonts to C:\windows.
  19. Since Adobe has went to subscription payment on all thei software like Microsoft. I have been looking for compatible replacements. My main use for Photoshop is not editing and enhancing photos but to create headlines and save as pngs for use in other programs. I also use actions to create mock ups that create CD covers, magazine cover looks etc. I also would like to be able to use and modify the headline files I currently have which are in PSD for,at. How much of this will Affinity do? I am also looking for an Indesign replacement. I have never liked renting software. I current use CS6 on my Macintosh and don't want to be forced to CC one day. 20. Hi Guys as any new forum members tends to be I am somewhat overwhelmed by the forum content to date, so forgive me is this question has been asked before. I also use Photoshop CS6 and have a veritable smorgasbord of resources such as brushes, fonts, vector graphics, shapes swatches etc and was wondering which if any can be imported into Affinity Designer and Photo.e.g. should I / can I use TTF fonts or OTF fonts. I have never used Adobe Illustrator so not totally au fait with all the terminology. Any advice welcome
  21. I am hoping there will be an easy-to-use feature on the final Affinity Publisher to upload fonts as I am finding the available fonts quite restrictive on the current Beta. (It would be even better if the feature would be added to the next Beta update... but I expect that is wishful thinking haha)
  22. Hi guys! I've some problem with font cache in both softwares on Windows. My font list don't update at all. I try to close AD and AP then restart, but nothing happens. No one of new fonts is updated. In Photoshop, Word and other SW everything is fine. Please, help me! G.
  23. Hi, I have lots of fonts and it slows down the startup of Affinity Photo and designer, because every time it is loading all fonts. Is there anything I can do to speedup things besides deleting fonts? Regards & Thanks, David
  24. Will there be support for color fonts in Affinity, especially Affinity Publisher, in the near future? A year ago there were just a few of these fonts but now there are many, and I have a few in my collection. I've played around with these in InDesign and I'm hooked - you can do amazing things with these.
  25. I’m a type designer and like to test my fonts in Affinity apps. There is one problem. If you re-install the same font with slight changes in Font Book, the systems font caches are corrupted. For me that means cleaning them and restarting every 10 minutes. Indesign (and all Adobe design apps) have the ability to load fonts from a folder in 'Application Support/Fonts' and from a 'Fonts' folder that is next to the document (the later option makes it much more convenient to work with different people on the same file). As soon as you change the font, Adobe apps will reload it and update the document. MacOS provides great APIs to activate fonts per app so this is technically possible.
