  1. Hi everyone, I'm about to buy a license for Affinity Designer. However, I'm going to change my hardware in a couple of weeks. Right now I'm using Windows 7. But I plan to use Windows 10 on my new PC. Will I be able to use Affinity on my new PC if I buy a license right now? It's not about using your software on 2 PCs at the same time (I know the license is per one workstation). I will just have to switch my workstation and I don't know if I should wait and a buy a license after buying new PC. Thanks
  2. Hello everyone, This post is primarily aimed at Serif employees/Affinity Designer developers. I have found a great deal of use recently in Photoshop's Measure tools, in which a pixel distance, drawn between 2 points with a straight line, can have a custom measurement conversion attached to it. For example, you have a picture of someone standing in a doorway, and you want to know the height of the person, the door width, window height from the floor etc, and all you know is the height of the door in it's entirety as exterior and interior doors have a series of standard sizes. The measuring tool would allow you to draw a line from the bottom of said door to the top, and specify that that distance in pixels, equates to 1.8 meters (meters simply being a string used for display, doesn't matter what you want to convert to). This information (284 pixels = 1.8 meters (or arbitrary unit) for example) is then used to measure other areas you specify with the ruler tool, so you can measure the width of the door, which turns out to be 126 pixels or 0.8 meters. This kind of tool would allow any orthographic or perspective shot to be measured out in it's entirety, and maybe even recorded if you had a window to log these measurements, which is an incredibly useful and valuable tool. I would take a look at doing it myself but as far as I can see, you don't (yet?) support plugins or third-party tools. Is something like this feasible or likely to be released sometime down the road? For now I am still having to rely on Photoshop, which giving Adobe's recent move to subscription-only models, is really a drag, and I hate using it, but with this tool missing from pretty much every alternative to PS and AI, I am stuck paying for it for now
  3. Hey guys, Some months ago I saw a redesigned Apple Music, I liked the idea, so made my own. To check out all the story behinds it, I made a huge publication on medium, with images and screens all made on Affinity Designer and Photo. would love to you guys check it out! https://medium.com/@gustavoantoniogonalves/i-saw-a-redesigned-apple-music-so-i-kinda-redesigned-it-again-8b3dfb5c5abf?source=linkShare-92ff1568a988-1507110699
  4. Starting messing around - haven't posted anything in awhile. Forum UI looks great. Cheers
  5. Hello Friends, here are some (butterfly) vector graphics that I created with Affinity Designer. Schmetterling als Vektorgrafik: Schwalbenschwanz (Papilio machaon, the old world swallowtail). http://b-bertuleit.de/vector-butterfly/ What do you think about this? Looking forward to a feedback from you, thank you very much.
  6. Just completed some artwork for DBD new album ---- all vector -----
  7. Hi, This is actually my first drawing in Designer. Due to the lack of any creative ideas, I started making my own version of a famous Dali painting, to practise using Designer. I have learned quite a bit on the way, but there is still much more to learn.
  8. Started a series of classic British car illustrations for T-shirts I have printed. Austin A30 spud in the pipeline.
  9. Image 1 - Nightmare on Sesame St. Elmo. I saw another group of photos made from an unknown artist. thought i'd take a stab at my own version. my next one will be of big bird, then cookie monster, and the oscar the grouch
  10. Hello All, When opening a new file in the Draw Persona (and creating vector art) or opening an existing afdesign file, the artwork remains hidden behind a gray field. (the gray field doesn't show up as a layer.) The vector artwork, if clicked on with selection tool, can be seen with nodes but when you click outside of the art work it disappears again. I've tried adjusting parameters within the preferences and document setup but nothing changes. I also re-installed AD and the same issue happened. I've attached screen shots of the 'node view' and the 'disappearing artwork' field. Thanks for any input!
  11. Almost fun to create this one if it wasn't for some program bugs and refreshing issues. Is anyone else out there having problems with slow refresh rates on their mac? I have some FXs going on but I can't imaging it would slow things down so much.
  12. When editing a document on 2 machines, it would be nice to have an option to embed all used fonts into the document or a function which collects all related files into a single folder to give them along with the document. -- Harald
  13. Hi all, Is it any option to transform a picture from JPG to SVG in Affinity Designer? I don't see any option at Tool Panel. Thank you. Laura
  14. Hi, new to affinity designer. Here are some fly fishing reels I built, looking to push them farther any feedback appreciated. Thanks
  15. A children's book style image using textured strokes in Affinity Designer
  16. I want to fill in the blank part and create one under the arrow. In Photoshop I'd just select 1 pixel and use free-transform to drag the line out to fill the gap. There's no free-transform tool in AD that I can see, so what am I meant to do? /EDIT I already know I could use a vector curve to do this
  17. Been asked to do a pumpkin for a Halloween gig so thought I'd have a crack at doing one all vector:
  18. i want to select all text wich is different layers and not select blue background, so basicly i need freeze background from selection, right now when i start selection with mouse rectangle i click on background and move it
  19. Here's a silly bit of nostalgia for those in the UK of a certain "vintage". (All done in AD.) I think I've managed to get the screen reflection and graininess of an old TV about right but it's just a bit of fun. Time to get a cold can of Quatro out of the fridge and sit back to watch The Gaffer on TV.
  20. Affinity Designer vector illustration of my daughter at 19-days old. No pixels or vector brushes used here, just good old fashioned strokes and filled paths. Masks, transparency tool, layer FX and blend modes used where needed and a couple of adjustment layers to tweak the colours at the end. I'd guess there's around 2,000 elements make up this image - around 500 are individually positioned head hairs, and many of the individual wool strands are actually three strokes twisted together too which ups the object count. With all the blurs and depth of field stuff, it nearly kills my MacBook and takes a good 20+ seconds for the screen to redraw after every zoom or edit on high quality view settings - spent a lot of time in wireframe and low quality mode at the end. When I get a faster Mac, I'd like to add some of the less important detail that's missing to make it more convincing (e.g. the almost invisible eyebrow hairs, more detail to eyes etc.) and tweak some of the bits that are annoying me. No idea how long it took as I've been working on it on and off in my spare time (which is practically non-existent with a baby) since December - I'd estimate 30-50 hours. Anyway, hope you like it!
  21. Captain Noise character I originally came up with for Nottinghams NLC charity festival
  22. Many time I close my laptop lid and open it again I find Affinity Designer with a black background. It appears as though it has had some sort of display glitch. I can't remove it unless I restart the program. Any solutions out there? See picture for example.
  23. Super quick re-creation of a direct mail valentines card I designed a few years back which was originally done all in InDesign as vector artwork using blurs and bevels - the chocolate heart text was set up as variable data and output 10up on an SRA3 sheet and run to a Xerox digital press - the choc text was originally smaller to accommodate longer names from the database - worked a treat
