  1. I have a few question for those Designer artists who have to deal with prepress and printshops. How do you prepare your artfiles in order to minimize problems with the printshop? I ask because with Affinity Designer I don't see any possibility to preview color separations and I especially miss spot color separations? What workflow do you use or recommend assuming that we don't use any Adobe or other expensive third party software for this purpose?
  2. I must have pressed something that caused objects to be visible outside of the bounds of the image. It would be nice to know how to toggle this off or on, as I can see how it might be useful in some situations and distracting in others. Thanks.
  3. It's nothing clever and the polygon fad might have passed but it was fun to do. Most use a very low polygon count and just something like a face but I like to make it more complicated for myself, not necessarily better though. I had already done a version but wasn't happy with it so this is my new attempt. A tip is to duplicate the layer(s) and perhaps add a tiny bit of blur to the background copy. That fills in the minute gaps between the shapes and the output's much nicer. Click on it then click "full size" and it's not so blurry.
  4. Hey all ! I am Chris and I am studying graphic design ; for now I am focused on branding and illustration (you don't surely know but I follow this forum for about 1 year lol). A few days ago I submitted my work for a dribbble meetup event and unexpectly my work got exposure and I receive an Invitation to Dribble community . So 2 days ago, I made my first shot . If you're already a part of this community , do not hesitate to mention it so we may follow each other. Link of the shot : https://dribbble.com/shots/3993697-Hello-Dribbble The HD file is attached Obviously made with affinity designer_ I am also planning to do affinity designer mockups in apparel domain in the incoming year. Have a nice day !
  5. I'm working with a company that utilizes Adobe Illustrator - but of course, I don't use AI. I use Affinity Designer. I assured the design team that I'd be able to import their AI files, edit, and then export to AI, and the process would be seamless. However, it doesn't appear that this is the case, because whenever I import the AI file into AD, half imports correctly, and half does not. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a specific way I need to import/export AI files into AD that I'm not aware of?
  6. Here is my version of DaVinci's "Vitruvian Man". I have always thought that there should be a color version of it. It was all done in Designer and while I don't normally use any of Designer's "Effects", I decided to this time. I hope that you enjoy. Thanks for taking the time to view my work, Hokusai
  7. Dear serif. I am a logo designer. I bought affinity designer for logo designing. Every logo designer needs mockup But affinity designer doesn't have warp effect so you can't have mockups. The only way to use mockups is by buying affinity photo (50$). Dear serif. Be sure that i won't pay another $50 And if i didn't get the warp tool in the next update be sure that i will leave this program
  8. Hi everyone, I am desperately searching for a tutorial or tips of you guys, how you are working with text styles in affinity designer. I dont' mean the artistic way of creating 3d texts or effects and the likes, but rather how u organize your h1, h2, text body styles, how do you create them and how to you apply these...any helpful tips or links are welcome. Thank you all. Best regards, rnb
  9. What is the best way to dim an image in Affinity Photo or Designer especially for website background so to make a good contrast with the text or font? Should I use designer or photo?
  10. Please add support for OpenType locl feature - Localized forms. Currently you can switch the language of a text from the Character palette, but this doesn't trigger the locl feature. (This is how it usually works in Adobe apps) This feature is quite important especially for Cyrillic scripts. Tested this with Affinity Designer, not sure what is the case with Affinity Photo.
  11. I don't use symbols very often because I seem to always run into a problem. Today I figured I'd give them a try in a new project. Can anyone tell me what caused my one symbol to be different from the rest? My steps were: 1 I created one symbol, sort of the shape of an eyelid. 2. Copied that symbol to create a row, then a second row. Using cmd C and cmd V 3. Then the two rows were copied many times. Using cmd J 4. After about 20 rows were created this way I changed one symbol by duplicating (cmd C and cmd V) a layer in the symbol and modifying the original layer to add sort of an eye shape under the eyelid The sync button was never touched during this process. All symbols were modified exactly the same by AD except one in every other row. For some reason it skipped the duplicate step, but did the modifying step. Would the orange symbol marker show if the layer had been modified? The file is attached if anyone can figure how this happens I would be most grateful. I just copied the missing layer from a good symbol into the defective symbol and AD did add the layer to that symbol without adding it to the rest of the symbols. The sync button is still highlighted, shouldn't it have affected all symbols? When I did step 4 above, all symbols were affected. I am so confused! Test.afdesign
  12. Affinity Online Help Hello all, we're happy to be able to offer you an online version of the in-app help! Access Designer, Photo & Publisher Help here: https://affinity.help Here are some of the additional features we're able to implement as a result of having proper browser support: Dynamic language switching: The help will determine your language and (if it's available) serve you a localised copy of the help. If you prefer to read in another language, however, you'll find a combo box at the bottom left which will enable you to change languages—and stay on the page you're currently reading. Print: Sounds simple, but with full browser support we can now implement printing of the topic pages. The print icon in the bottom left will give you a nicely formatted printout of the current topic. Share: Clicking the clipboard icon will copy the current topic's URL to your clipboard, which means you can easily point other people towards topics that may help them. Responsive: The help was responsive anyway, including off-canvas menu functionality so you could collapse the window and still read a topic, but this is taken further in this version of the help. The help is formatted nicely and usable even on a 4" iPhone SE screen. Search: we've implemented our own bespoke search for the online help which is fast and accurate. Access it via the tab system along the top left. Favourites: you can add topics to your favourites list to easily access them during future browser sessions. Simply click the + (plus) icon next to the "Favourites" tab to add the current topic. With this online version you'll be able to print out topics and view them on your tablets/phones, which are two of the most common requests when it comes to help feedback. As always, if you have any feedback or find any issues with this online version, please let us know! Hope you find it useful.

  14. Hello, I've been floating on the forums for a few weeks. This is my virgin post. I am trying to make an ink stain similar to the one pictured below. I have both AP and AD, but I prefer the element to be vector. I am hoping for either a tutorial or your suggestions for how to make something similar in AD. I do not want to just trace this one. I'm so stumped. Any help will be so appreciated!
  15. Usually.I make my subtitle sequence by Photoshop.Now....I almost give up PS.But now I want to make subtitles. In photoshop. image-variables-define-next-import(text files)-ok,then file-export-data set as files Is there any functions like these in affinity photo or affinity designer?
  16. So I've been dragging and dropping files into Affinity Designer as part of my project, as some of the files I need are stock images. However, I do need to edit them from time to time, such as making name changes for the file or deleting the file. I cannot edit these files on the File Explorer (i.e. Move the file, edit the name, delete the file) because I always get the prompt that the file is in use and that I need to close Affinity Designer to make some changes. Is there some way where I am still able to not have to keep closing Affinity Designer to make changes to a file in file explorer? I did forget to mention I am using Windows OS (Thanks Jeff)
  17. Hey all, in continuing my scooter series for Redbubble, here is a retro styled Vespa/travel poster look featuring a scootering lady about Rome. Lambretta will be next in the series. All done in Designer 1.6 Check it out on my Redbubble site as well. https://www.redbubble.com/people/kevincreative/works/29083512-retro-vespa-scooter?asc=u&ref=recent-owner
  18. In photoshop you can make a new layer via copy. Make selection then hit CMD+J for make a new layer with selected content Is it possible to achieve the same using AD? btw, what do you think about to merge vector and pixel persona in to one? Shading is still more convenient using raster brushes. Thank you.
  19. Hello there, I am drawing on a Wacom Bamboo Slate, which can export your drawings (and writing via a kind of OCR) to text, image formats and SVG. Here's Wacom's specs for the Slate: http://www.wacom.com/en/products/smartpads/bamboo-slate#Specifications The Slate's ballpoint pen is marketed as having 1024 levels of pressure which in theory seems a bit much for a ballpoint pen, but would be nice if it could reproduce the light and heavy strokes you have made on paper. My problem is that the SVG files exported from Wacom's Inkspace app are filled black shapes instead of strokes. The shapes are thicker than the original paper lines, losing most of the line width variance, and I cannot find a way to reduce the width as you would with a stroke. I am attaching an image to illustrate my problem. Any thoughts on how to convert these shapes into strokes so that I could make them thinner? Many thanks in advance! PS there may be an answer in the thread below ('line width is not yet fully supported in the SVG standard'), but I'd like to confirm if something can be done about this using Affinity Designer? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/45452-how-do-i-import-paths-they-keep-turning-into-shapes/#comment-227169
  20. Hi all, I am trying to recreate creases on fabric using affinity designer (in vector) and I am having a hard time in recreating curved shadows in the creases. I.e. recreate something as in the attached (Curved Shadow), but in a much more complex background (with gradients etc.). The one attached I created using a outer shadow and then setting the fill opacity to 0% (see screenshot attached), but the problem with outer shadows is that if the radius is larger then the offset then you will see the shadow all around the shape (see Curved Shadow without rectangle image) and I had to cover it with another shape the same color as the background to hide the shadows I did not want to see. Having a limitation of the offset>radius appears is a big limitation in my case (want to have a very dark edge with a smooth gradient recreating a larger crease). Also in this image it was simple to cover as the background was a solid color, but in more complex images it is impossible to cover it seamlessly. Also things can get messy pretty quickly... Any suggestion? Did someone else resolve this issue in other ways? I tried with gradients, inner shadow, outer shadow, etc. No good solution so far... [Note: new to vector design in general so be kind to me....] Thanks
  21. I can't open drawings that I created in the Affinity Designer app in the actual app. Every time I go to Files then Open and I try to open the drawings, they're grayed out and can't be open. Please help!
  22. Hello, Affinity Designer is great app for designing but also great for Website and App Mockup but why I can't export PSD as editable text this is a really important feature for only this function I need to go back to PS every time I do Website or App Mockup because 90% of my clients want Mockup in PSD with editable text if this feature is not available please implement this as soon as possible ( I search a 2-year-old post requesting this feature) and I say goodbye to PS and AI. Also if anyone knows any workaround for this please help me.

There are 1-row and Columns 6 rows, row gap 0.125 and column gap of 0.125 Bleed area guide is 0.5 in. Can anyone give me guidance on how to set these dimensions in Affinity designer?
