  1. I often run into the issue where I want to modify the curve object while I am drawing it. While I use the Ctrl key to temporarily activate the Node to move vertices around, I can't add nodes to the curve. That is because the Ctrl shortcut deletes a curve segment. 2022-11-23 16-06-17.mp4 This is strange to me, because if I switch to the node tool, I would expect that clicking would allow me to add vertices, like it would in the node tool. Instead, holding Ctrl to switch to the node tool also sets the node tool to delete segments. At the same time, Ctrl+Shift also deletes segments. Now then, shouldn't Ctrl+Shift be used to delete segments, whereas holding Ctrl should add vertices? That would enable all modification methods, while also making it the tool more consistent with the stand alone node tool.
  2. Hi, I'd like to request a feature that would allow me to add nodes directly between existing nodes on a shape, similar to how Illustrator's "Add Anchor Points" tool works. I think this could be even better if you could select which nodes you want to add nodes between, rather than this only working for the entire shape. For example, if I have a circle with 4 nodes, and I select the top and left nodes and use this tool, it would add a single node evenly spaced between the two on the existing path at the top-left of the circle (see screenshot). If I select the entire shape, it would add 4 nodes, one between each connecting pair. Thanks!
  3. Hi, I'm trying to create a singular curve by joining multiple individual curves together using the ADD boolean operation, but it is not working as expected. I have the following design below consisting of multiple curves, and basically I want to join them together so it becomes one single curve: When I used the ADD boolean operation to attempt to join the curves together it came out looking like this: I also tried to use the XOR boolean operation and then use the "Break Curve" and "Join Curve" options respectively to remove the newly intersecting pen curves, but for some reason the areas where the curves should join right after implementing the XOR operation become a jumbled mess (which makes using the Break- and Join Curve actions almost impossible): Hence I'm asking for help with this because I truly don't know how else to achieve this. Not sure if this question has been asked before in the Forum, but any help would be truly appreciated :).
  4. Hello, is there any shortcut to use will have a selection tool to change between add and subtract instantly? Like in PS? This will make my life waaaay easier. thank you!
  5. Hello :) Not quite sure how to explain my problem, but here goes: I am working on a logo design and I used some curves and some type to make it. I would like to make it different colors, so I can present it to my client. The problem is, that I have to select all the curves and change the outline color for them, and then select the type (which I already converted to curves) and change the fill-colour. Is there any way that I can make the logo into a cohesive vector-file, so that I can select the whole thing and change the colour? This would also be helpful for exporting it, so the client doesn't have to deal with this issue, but can just change the color of it as needed? Thanks in advance! I'd really appreciate the help!
  6. I have Affinity Photo V1.9. I have a photo of 2 people that I want to frame. Problem is they are up pretty high in the picture and I wanted to expand the little bit of background that is above them a little further so that they appear a more centered in the picture. Is there a way to do this in affinity photo?? Thanks very much in advance for any assistance.
  7. We need the option or the tool for create unlimited artboards in Affinity Photo like in Affinity Designer is possible to a better and faster workflow
  8. Using the new 1.9.0.10 beta, I am trying to add together several expanded former strokes and fills to make one united vector shape. Each time I do so, a large portion of it just disappears. How are we supposed to be doing this aside from tracing the outside with a single pen stroke? Also, I have to keep switching over from the alternate fill mode to the winding repeatedly because when I grab a part of a fill and pull a node of it over top another, it just creates a negative space where they overlap otherwise. Lastly, we're still getting crazy number of nodes when expanding and dividing strokes These issues have been brought up for the last few years without a complete fix. stuff like this is in large part what keeps Affinity from being an app I can use exclusively
  9. I have a bunch of former strokes I expanded - used the new divide function to clear overlapping former strokes and then selected all and hit "add" to merge back as one piece. The last step froze the app - this is not just a 1.9 beta issue, it's happened with all versions at times... I had to force quit the beta and reopen it. When it asked me if I wanted to restore the previous file, it brought up another design I was playing around with prior to this current one I got frozen with. That recovered file was an totally unsaved version - the one that froze on me was an existing file with a name saved prior. When I went to the open recent files, and selected my file that had frozen, it then offered to use the restored version... im glad it did, but I'm curious why it didn't offer both files to be restored since both were open when it froze.
  10. How do I combine these text letters into one shape/object and keep the stroke size intact? I converted the text to curves, I then "add" the shapes. And what happens is that I loose the stroke size, and the inner white areas are filled in. Thank you to anyone for helping solve this issue.
  11. Hi, could anyone help me with combining items? I have some curves grouped and a shape which I have converted to curves and I would like to combine them so that the stem doesn’t show in the box (please see image). I have tried ordering but I need to box transparent so that doesn’t help and I have tried various masks with no success. If I try the ‘add’ function I just seem to end up with the square only. I have shown a picture with my layers panel to see if it helps. Or maybe it just isn’t possible? Thanks in advance.
  12. I'm just getting started with Designer and am excited about its potential. Excellent work by the Affinity team! I create logos and lettering primarily, and with my method of building shapes with the pen tool, I intersect my line segments in order to be able to edit anchor points and handles of one segment without altering the adjacent segment (see attachment). With Illustrator's Unite function in the Pathfinder palette, I am able to divide a single shape where the paths intersect and delete the unwanted areas outside my desired final shape, while the unwanted overlaps inside the shape are automatically removed by the same function. I've tried a workaround in Designer by placing another small shape inside my desired shape, which is then absorbed completely by the 'Add' operation, but the intersections of my original shape are unaffected. I'm sure this sounds confusing, but I'm not sure how to explain it in a better way. Hopefully the attachments will make it easier to follow. The attachments are from Illustrator's workspace to explain the desired functionality. Is there another way I can do this with Designer? Thanks, Jeff
  13. hello designers , i am a new affinity designer user and i need someone to help me (look to the video) , and i need it to be like this (look to image) thanks Desktop_2020_05.11_-_10_21_12_01.mp4
  14. hello designers . i need some help in my practical logo design , i am a new affinity user and i do not know how to this logo by golden ratio , so if anyone can help me please tell me how to this , thanks. Desktop 2020.05.02 - 23.47.21.02.mp4
  15. So I purchased Affinity Designer for Mac and in all honesty it is amazing application and does 99% of what I need as a graphic designer. There is one thing missing! An IMAGE TRACE FUNCTION. This software would kill off Illustrator and would be perfect for any designer. Why haven't you added this feature yet? When will you add it? Will it be added? A lot of people can't afford Adobe's ridiculous prices and use not exactly legal methods to acquire its software. I love using Affinity Designer but its just LACKING ONE FUNCTION, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add an Image trace function and quickly! Many thanks! Chris.
  16. I’m having a recurring issue when trying to subtract an overlapping shape from the object below. Every time I try it, the resulting new object is distorted. This is something I’ve not had issues with until now. Same thing is happening when I try to add multiple objects together. Examples attached.
  17. I'm using the current Designer beta (1.8.0.5). I have been encouraged by the new beta and much appreciate the much improved add and divide geometry tools. It's worked well with some tests I've run. I decided to test it out with a project I'm doing and ran into a few issues. I traced my sketch using the brush tool using the standard vector brush (100% vector) with the controller set to pressure and the stabilizer on. I then selected it all and expanded it - no problems there! I again selected it all and hit the "add" geometry option and the entire design disappeared. It actually made a new layer called "curve" above my artboard with nothing in it. I went back a step and tried doing the design in smaller chunks... it worked fine in some areas and not in others. When I have done designs like this in Illustrator, I've usually filled in sections with the blob tool or done a live paint fill. With Affinity not having those options, I fill in with strokes - potentially creating more work for the program to process. It's possible I did something wrong in my process. I know I used the same brush settings for the entire piece when I created it, so everything should have the same properties. I did increase and decrease the brush size at times. i included a video of the problem as well as the file with two layers - the unedited initial strokes and the other layer after I had expanded it in the video and attempted to add together sections Thanks for any assistance! 18. With CTRL+left click on a layer icon it is possible to create a selection from the contents of this layer. In PS (I know, AP is not PS...) you can use SHIFT or ALT as modifiers for adding to, subtracting from or intersecting with an existing selection. I would like to see this in AP, too. For adding two or more layers to a single selection there is at least a workaround: make a group from the layers you want the selection from and CTRL+left click the group layer icon to get a selection made of the "summed up" content of each of the grouped layers. However I haven't either figured out a way to realize the other operations or how to modify an existing selection with "selection from layer".

  20. I have an issue with the Add operation in comparison to Illustrator. As of now, I don't believe there is a feature that allows us to select by fill or color, this prohibits me from being able to select only the black infill and then add or merge them together as one shape. In Illustrator, I can select by fill color, select "unite" in the pathfnder window (which I believe is the equivialent to "add" in affinity) my design comes out perfect. With affinity, since there is no option to select on by fill color, I have to select everything, then select "add" which fills in portions of the object with solid black.
  21. When I grab these individual fill pieces to merge them together with the boolean operation "Add", it turns them into an outline - . Most of the time this works just fine, but why in some cases might this result occur? thanks!
  22. When making a selection with the Selection Brush Tool the action of the Add and Subtract buttons are reversed.
  23. I can never seem to get the ADD, SUBTRACT, DIVIDE, COMBINE functions to work right, can someone please tell me what I may be doing wrong or if it's something with the software settings? https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cqfeDnZfQU
  24. Is that one new? I never noticed it before. THATS a thing i've been waiting for since my first use of AP. Thanks for implementing this!
