Thanks for the replies, @sfriedberg with the contour tool, I can drag it in to get it to go inside my original shape and then change the radius to my measurement say -0.5inch but then I bake and the original shape disappears, do I just duplicate before doing the contour? Thanks

Hi hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I am using affinity to adjust sewing patterns for projector sewing. In order to do this I need to know where the seam lines are. I currently have a file with the outline of a pattern and need to drawn the seam allowance say 1cm all the way around the inside of this outline. Is there a function that will easily allow this? All the examples I have seen are about expanding the shape to add onto the outside? Thanks

@DM1 thankyou for the videos, I can get this to work using your examples so that will certainly help me however not with my shapes.. if I select both the rectangle and flower and use convert to curves then expand stroke my flower disappears. I have so tried Ungrouping the flower, expanding the flower Stroke and then using add to make it a single shape then using the divide but I end up with lots of black fills and areas where if I delete the box frame also deletes. I tried subtract also to see if I could duplicate and just end up with the outside I could move into position. I’m not sure what I am doing wrong or if I am trying to achieve something which isn’t possible. I have attached my file with the unaltered starting point of shapes I am using, not sure if you could perhaps take a look if you get some time to spare? Thanks flower.afdesign

Hi, Thankyou so much for taking the time to help with the video, that will certainly work in this case but I do intend to use more complex shapes such as flowers etc also where half of the flower shows above the box. Would you have a method for that? Thanks

Hi, could anyone help me with combining items? I have some curves grouped and a shape which I have converted to curves and I would like to combine them so that the stem doesn’t show in the box (please see image). I have tried ordering but I need to box transparent so that doesn’t help and I have tried various masks with no success. If I try the ‘add’ function I just seem to end up with the square only. I have shown a picture with my layers panel to see if it helps. Or maybe it just isn’t possible? Thanks in advance.

@firstdefence thanks, I do have affinity photo however it would probably cause me a problem if the other colours became more translucent for printing purposes

Hi, I have imported some vector brushes and have created a document for printing But have been told that the ‘white’ area has to be transparent rather than white as it is being printed on white. The white area in the coloured areas are strokes. In have tried expanding the stroke and also changing it to no colour but it just goes black rather than transparent and the expand does not work (presumably from reading above because it is not a true vector brush). Can anyone let me know if it is possible to make the white area in here transparent? Thanks

Hi, Could anyone please help me with exports? If I export a single artboard as a PNG using the file menu and then export I get a good quality image with all of my colours etc. But I have multiple artboards and want to export them all. When I tried doing this via the 'export persona' and using the artboards as slices the exports look very different. I looked at the settings on the PNG in both areas and couldn't see any differences. Please see image attached, both are a PNG from the same document but one is far better. How can I get my export persona to produce the correct images? Thanks

@Gabe so sorry for my delayed reply. Unfortunately my computer restarted and I have therefore lost my file in this case. As I do not know what caused the problem I may be best avoiding opening affinity photo files in designer and maybe just import them as jpegs once I have already set a document?

Hi, I cannot save my work in Affinity Designer, it keeps saying internal error. I have tried creating a snapshot and creating a new document with it but the new document will not save either. I don't know how the document was originally set up - I edited a picture in Affinity Photo and then clicked edit in Designer but have since created further artboards. My Affinity Designer is version 1.8.3.641. Please can you help. Thanks
