I haven't updated to v2.3 on my Catalina Mac yet, so I'll check that out.

Hi NathanC, Thanks for your reply. I did the following step: 1. Used mouse and then used the trackpad. It seemed no effect. Please see the video-1; 2. Closed AD2 app, and then restarted app by holding CTRL. After that, cleared the data. Please see the image; 3. Launched the app, and opened the menu. It seemed no effect. Please see the video-2. Because this happened after I upgraded AD2 from 2.1.0 to 2.2.0, I thought it might be something happened on Catalina with 2.2.0 and 2.3.0. 1.mov 2.mov

Hi @zgwangbo, I've since tested this on a M1 Macbook Air running Ventura 13.5.1 and using the trackpad the dialog always prompts as expected in 2.3, if possible could you try using a mouse for comparison just to confirm it's nothing odd to do with the trackpad/trackpad settings? Failing that, could you try resetting your Snapping presets in one of the apps by doing the following: Close all affinity apps Hold down CTRL and launch the app while still holding CTRL A 'Clear user data' menu will appear, in addition to the already ticked boxes tick 'Reset snapping presets' Press 'Clear' and the app will now launch, try opening the snapping menu again If both of the above don't work I can only think it's a problem specific to Catalina, so I'll see if I can get this tested on a Mac running Catalina.

I cant remember when I first got Affinity programs, somewhere around 2018/2019? I found that it takes awhile to load to open or to extract updates way back then, but lately it is getting worse. I have to force quit a number of times to open all the programs since it dosent respond after idling 5-10 minutes. Since the new version Im finding it slowing even more down especially if I have my browser open as well. With document im working on it now slowing down on 150mb file as wait for zoom to focus or task finish. It never did this a month ago. Currently updating 2.3 and the less used Photo is not loading, had to force quit twice so far. It is now 10:30pm I been trying to update all three one at a time. Did illustrator first then publisher and been doing since 12pm. My computer is getting old had its last update last year. But as I said this issue been like this since buying, but never so that I have to wait and affecting my browser not responding or any other computer use. I have no problem downloading anything else, which is done in minutes to 10 odd minutes or more depending on on how large files are. Also have 700gb storage available. Am I totally outdated with your programs? MacOS 10.15.7 Catalina Processor: 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Your struggle highlights this massive problem small agencies / freelancers / self employed graphic designers have if they choose to break away from Adobe - checking separations, spot colours, profiles, etc are a crucial part of the process of getting a job out of the door so if you are on PC you have the option of getting an old copy of Acrobat pro (pre subscription) or apply for a free Packzview serial, although, you'll need an online portfolio with at least a few packaging examples to land a serial - if you're Mac based and are running Affinity 2, you can no longer run 32bit apps so you'll need either Packzview or a pre- Catalina Mac / Partition to run a pre subscription version of Acrobat - I'd always hoped we'd get an Affinity output / checkup persona which I've been waffling on about since around 2016 but I don't think checking PDF's is a current priority - there's hundreds of PDF apps knocking about, why can't at least one of these apps add these crucial features?

MacOS cannot even read HFS (sans "plus") volumes since Catalina. And HFS was definitely the filesystem of choice with floppies on Mac. But I just checked with a few old HFS formatted disk images that still live on my hard drive since over two decades. What's needed are the macFuse and fuseHFS filesystem extensions, then they can be mounted. Either that, or if you have SheepShaver to emulate Classic Mac OS (like I do), mounting HFS logically still works in there, too. Now… I was actually given a USB floppy drive many years ago but I never had the need to use it; I only kept it for Justin Case. Heck, it's weekend, so let's get down the rabbit hole later today… Back on topic, somewhat: I'm really, really glad that Serif have at the very least refrained from applying the floppy methaphor to the Affinity software. -

Don't know about Windows, but Affinity on Mac is by far not the worst UI offender. Heck, even some of Apple's own apps are abysmally designed these days; the Mail.app being one such example that's been getting worse with each "upgrade" (although admittedly the Ventura version is slightly better than then one on Catalina). One issue with Affinity is that apparently for cross-platform consistency, the UI uses lots of non-standard elements, rather than providing elements available via OS frameworks. What's even worse then: those custom UI elements are invisible to system-wide accessibility features, e.g. not accessible to Apple's System Events UI scripting. -
A 2013 Mac that can run Catalina shouldn't have many issues in that regard. Affinity v2 runs fine on my 2012 MacBook Pro that cannot go higher than Catalina at all. Even my 2008 MacBook Pro is fully 64-bit but it can't go higher than El Capitan and thus only Affinity v1. But it works. Yep. If anything, then lack of RAM will be quite an issue with Affinity Photo. My 2008 MacBook can only have 4GB, and this is very noticeable when editing "lots of pixels" compared to the 16 GB in the 2012 MacBook, even though having now an internal SSD speeds things up massively compared to the "old school" spinning hard drives. The good news is that a 2013 Mac still should be user upgradable.

Affinity Designer 2 User Guide
R C-R replied to GrandToDo's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
No, as my sig below my posts show, I am using an Intel iMac running Catalina. Regardless of the Sonoma bug, what happens if you use the search function in the online version of the APub V2 help? Try it in https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/index.html or https://affinity.help/publisher2/English.lproj/index.html or whatever other language version you use. EDIT: You can also use the Contents section of the online help & as above expand the Panels section & scroll down to the Table panel entry & open it, like with https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/pages/Panels/tablePanel.html for US English. -
Welcome to the forums @MikeGebert, It's unlikely that your app crash problem will be related to the light mode UI problem as that is specific to Sonoma so I wouldn't recommend following the FAQ guidance if you're running Catalina. If you to go the Applications folder in Finder your app version should be easily identifiable as the V2 apps by default will be listed with a '2' on the end, so 'Affinity Photo 2' or example, while the V1 apps will only be listed as 'Affinity Photo' with no version number after the app name. If you could initially provide us with some crash reports that would be great, the FAQs below detail how to find these. How to find V1 crash reports: How to find V2 crash reports: Many thanks

IMac, running Catalina, I assume V1 of Affinity, but it crashes when I launch so I can't verify. I found solutions for Photo crashing in Sonoma or whatever: But I have Catalina, not Sonoma, and when I tried to fix it anyway using the instructions in Terminal, well, I got this: "-bash: efaults: command not found" And then I tried to delete some seriflabs file in Library/Preferences as instructed, and no such file exists. So how do I get Photo to launch? Thanks...

I use MacOS Catalina version 10.15.7. I can't update it anymore as I (in the past) cucked away my apple id. And if it could be updated some of my other software wouldn't be working anymore. So I rather not update. I also have an old computer (that still does work fine) from 2013. Now I've closed Affinity Photo and opened it again the layers seem to be there miraculously. But the filters still don't work. I selected myself in the background. I can choose the filter I want, but when I apply nothing is happening.

Nik colection on Photo2 - Mac
loukash replied to Antonio prando's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
https://archive.org/details/nikcollection-full-1.2.11 But you can't run the installer on MacOS Catalina or later. It won't work properly. If you don't have an older, already working installation of Google Nik somewhere, you may need to install it on an older MacOS first (e.g. El Capitan), then copy all Nik apps and support directories to the new Mac. On new M1/M2 Macs with Ventura, all Google Nik plugins work in Photo as long as Photo is launched using Rosetta, i.e. in "Intel mode". Here's how: -
Yeah, Catalina doesn't have support for the Sony A7, as confirmed here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/101186 so switching to the Apple RAW Engine won't help you in this case. Odd you can see something with the file called Black_A7400091.ARW when using Serif LABS, as that opens completely black for me. Even increasing the Brightness/Exposure doesn't help show some of the image and the Histogram is pretty much blank. See the attached screenshot, I've increased all the sliders and there still hasn't been a change in the Histogram.
