  1. Update Febuary 6 2021. Added skin texture, mainly with custom-made vector brushes. Update sequence in my portfolio blog as usual: https://communicats.blogspot.com/2020/10/im-not-strange-im-just-not-normal.html
  2. I recall in earlier versions that I simpy clicked an object in the layers panel and just started drawing, which would place the newly drawn object directly above the selected one. In later versions this was no longer the case although it is described in the help file as I wrote above. Concerning the disappeared objects: I always have the save with history option turned on when working on complex drawings, but could not trace what happened. Luckily as I wrote in a previous comment I save often on two different hard drives and was able to limit the damage.
  3. This is the graphic version. Still work in progress. May add a more realistic version later (more fur and scales details). 4. Stunning artwork. To create such a realistic image with so few curves is awsome. Besides showing your amazing skill it reveals the functional power of Affinity Designer. Kudos.
  5. When I add a new layer, it is always placed at the op automatically, while the help file says it will be placed directly above the selected layer. When drawing images that have a ton of layers, this is a problem, since the layer has to be moved to its proper position. I also lost curves for no apparent reason; they just disappeared. What saved me is the fact that I regularly saved the file to two physically different hard drives under a different name, one of which included the vanished curves (layers). Had I not noticed that the files mystically were no longer present however, I would have to draw them again, which again is a rather painstaking business when a file contains many layers.
  6. Crashes I reported a few days ago, no longer occurred. Thanks to the devs for the swift response.
  7. Very strange; the document I referred to seems to be affected, other documents created in previous Beta versions did not. Opened them by chosing to make a copy. I tried redesigning the master pages of the corrupted document, to no avail.
  8. Ok Sean, thanks for the quick response. Good to know that Serif is aware of them and looking into these matters.
  9. AD 1.9.0.885 Beta hangs when copying objects from one artboard to the next and when I click objects in which a bitmap is clipped. Also when I click to see nested objects in general.
  10. The pagenumber field shows the same number for left and right pages, where in the previous beta this problem did not occur.
  11. Vector portrait of Robin Williams, created in Affinity Designer. Available in my webshop in Redbubble: https://www.redbubble.com/i/t-shirt/If-you-were-right-I-d-agree-with-you-by-communicats/61549761.G2CME?asc=u Progress sequence and info in my portfolio blog: https://communicats.blogspot.com/2020/11/vector-portrait-of-robin-williams-used.html
  12. See progress sequence and additional info in my portfolio blog: https://communicats.blogspot.com/2020/11/clint-eastwood-in-vector-t-shirt-design.html Not too much detail such as pores, wrinkles and hair texture was included, because the image was used for a T-shirt design. I might add it later when I make a separate portrait of this.
  13. I used to drive beemer cars before I got married and had kids. Today a lack of funds force me to drive less expensive cars. In the two wheel department my best ride was a water cooled three cylinder 750 Suzuki that didn't handle nicely in corners, but went like a bullet on the straight.
  14. When I have difficulty figuring out the correct shape of complex 3D objects, I cheat and draw them in a 3D program like Rhinoceros, view them from the angle I need and then use that rendering to draw them in Affinity Designer. If I do not have a proper reference image that is.
  15. Great brush pack. I sometimes wish that AD brushes had a functionality similar to the of Photo, which would make realistic organic drawing less challenging.
  16. Art Deco has always had a great appeal to me. It somehow refers to preference in the dungeons of our minds (where the good stuff is).
  17. Most excellent work. I ran out of likes today, but I would have liked to give them. There is coherence in the artwork, which isn't an aspect applied too often. It makes imagery settle easy in the mind of the observer. A perceptive approach is what appeals to those that prefer to venture beyond the obvious surface matter.
  18. You used on technique (the perspective guide lines) that AD could use. Creating it yourself isn't too much work, but it would be a nice feature.
  19. Great detail, composition and palette. I was going to click the heart but wasn't allowed to do so, since there seems to be a limit to click that.
  20. When looking at your style of working I thought of a quote of Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin who one called his tyle of playing sloppy, while being an icon in the music world nevertheless. I'm sure that music lovers that read his words took it on a positive way. Continuing the analogy with the music business, Eric Claption said that there are millions of geniusses that never received the acclaim big stars like himself enjoyed. Both Page and Clapton just played the way they liked. I think that is your apporach as well and I am a fan, being one who is perhaps still stuck into realism that I find hard to let go for now.
  21. Wonder how much time it cost you to draw these, although I realize keeping time often is something of a rough estimate, since works like this tend to absorb the artist, which causes them to lose track of time. I've noticed that some complex works are flawlessly handled by AD, while others makes its panty twist and some strange things happening like vector files placed into the main file having a lot of detail missing. Perhaps that is the consequence of the manner of drawing - clipped objects within clipped objects to create gradients in one object that have many directions - that sort of functionality or worse, meaning many of thos sub or sub sub objects have one or more effects applied to them. Other than that, I've never missed Illustrator and CorelDRAW since I (accidentally) ran across AD. I only use Inkscape occasionally, although I find its UI puzzling.
  22. My most recent work, a graphic vector portrait of the renown surrealist painter Salvador Dali, that I use for a T-shirt design. I refrained from adding too much (texture) detail like pores and wrinkles or hair strands, because the design did not require it. Besides that the vector brush function does not work properly in the current Beta version of Designer (1.9.0.815). Visit my portfolio blog to see the progress sequence and additional info. From the vector portrait below: I created this T-shirt design That you find in my CommuniCats shop at Redbubble: The above is based on the vector wireframe of the portrait that you see below:
