Updated for Publisher 2.4 (February 2024)
This free in-depth manual is filled with steps, tips, and recommendations for:
Documents, Pages, Master Pages, Sections, and Baseline Grid Character and Paragraph Formatting Text Styles (paragraph and character) Text Frames, Text Flow, and Stories Images and Picture Frames Books and Chapters Cross-References, Table of Contents, and Index Notes - including Footnotes, Sidenotes, and Endnotes Fields - including Page Numbering, Running Headers, and Custom Variables Anchors and Hyperlinks Printing and Exporting Settings This manual does not cover objects, drawing, photo editing, or the other artistic features.
    Download:
    Publisher Manual Feb 26 2024.pdf
    Q&A
Is this really free? Yes, I'm making it available free of charge. It's copyrighted to prevent others from publishing it as their own. Is there a longer manual I can purchase? No, this is it. Is there an iPad version? No, the steps and screenshots are for the macOS and Windows versions. Is there a version for Designer or Photo? No, but many of the features are the same so you should still find it useful. Why does it use a print layout if it's a PDF? It's a demonstration of how to use the features it describes to create a print book. Previous version for 2.3:
    Publisher Manual Nov 29 2023.pdf

Small celebration. I've just passed the 700th video in my InAffinity YouTube channel.
There's also a web-based index, including videos sorted by time and category, plus free resources.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Serif and all of its people, including devs, QA, and everyone else. You folks have created an amazing product that has freed many of us from the Adobe taxation system and indeed that stands on its own as an excellent photo editing and graphics system. Having worked in software development, quality, marketing and other areas, I have some inkling of the effort and sheer dedication that it takes. Thank you and well done.

Ganna reacted to Graham L Furlonger in Focus Stacking / Microscopy
    Hello Forum,
I am posting this because I searched on "Microscopy" "Entomology" and "Focus Stacking" and saw few if any results, I may be in a minority?......

Having spent many years perfecting Microscopy with Entomology and recently converting from a well know rival, I was impressed with the power of Focus stacking within Photo. These two images were taken with modest equipment and a Canon 50d digital SLR dating from 2008 and a Brunel MX1 Stereo Microscope with 1x Objective, 10x Oculars, Giving resolution power of 10x, plus magnification of the camera. Whilst I have DSLR's with much higher pixel resolution, it is often not required and extends processing time, the 15 mp sensor
These two images comprise multiple shots (35 & 24) focus stacked within Affinity Photo.
I won't bore you with the technical details, but if you want them you can message (I am happy to share)
Affinity has saved me exporting my images to a third party software which has enhanced speed of operation and ease of use, one thing to note is that the Affinity software is not too picky on the order of focus slices presented, which is a major benefit to other rivals.
Of course this technique could be useful to many area's of photography including, jewellery for record purposes, medical, veterinarian, instruction manuals and service documents where close up work results in very narrow depth of field.

Enjoy your photography and enjoy using Photo.
    Regards

    Graham.

Ganna reacted to drippy cat in Brand new Affinity Designer course 95% off sale at Udemy until 20th April
    Hi everybody,
I've just released Affinity Designer: Solid Foundations and if you click the link you can get it at the 95% reduction in price. Or you can enter ADSOLIDFOUNDATIONS in the coupon field over at Udemy. The offer is valid until until 20th April  02:04 am PDT.
This course gives you a thorough grounding in the tools and techniques you need to know when you are producing good design. These tools and techniques are so fundamental that I make sure that they are covered properly and in detail. Practically every image you see is available as a download so you can follow along and I've also created many practice videos. Not a multi choice quiz where you just have to remember the name of a tool. That's not enough - you need practical task based exercises for a program like Affinity Designer and I give you exactly that. When you’ve tried out the exercises, come back to the video and I'll show you how I’d do the same task. I'll also give you some valuable tips about tools, techniques and workflow along the way so you can really nail down the fundamental concepts and be ready to move on to more advanced subjects.
After learning about vector based tools we'll tackle more topics about enhancing photos for use in your design work. Things like half a dozen different ways to select areas of your picture and the pros and cons of each. You’ll learn best working practices and be aware of gotchas while you learn about vector based shapes, text, artboards, gradients, selective colorization or pro level dodge and burn techniques. Layer blend modes? So many people get confused by them. Give me 20 minutes and you'll wonder why anyone would ever find them challenging. Learn the differences between vector shapes and bitmaps. Layer masks? So useful yet sometimes so confusing. Let me explain them to you and make them a vital part of your new skillset.
By the end of the course you will have mastered various effective workflows, start to finish. You will gain the confidence to tackle your own vector illustrations, be able to enhance photos, and one day soon you may well be looking at one of your own designs and thinking 'That looks fantastic! I did that...'
I'll see you on the course,
    Simon

Ganna reacted to Multi4G in 4 Tricks you need to know - Affinity Photo Tutorial
Make sure that you have the rectangle selected, that the rectangle is visible and has a color set for the stroke and that that layer is unlocked and not covered by another layer. maybe also check that the blend mode is "normal" and that the opacity of the stoke color is 100% - that's all i can think of at the moment.

Ganna reacted to dmstraker in Dave's Colour Models Macros -- Layer Separation (including RGB, RGBW, CMY, CMYK and HSL)
Attached is a macro set for splitting RGB image into separate layers for a number of colour models.
RGB: Basic separation RGBW: New model! Like CMYK but Red, Green, Blue and White RGB-W: Like RGBW but only two layers for separate colour/tone editing CMY: Effective inverse of RGB CMYK: Standard internal model CMY-K: Like CMYK, but with only two layers for separate colour/tone editing HSL: New model! Hue, Saturation and Luminosity on separate layers! HSL-RGB: Same as HSL, but with Hue broken down into separate RGB layers Principles used in doing these:
Start with 'Merge Visible' to create flat layer for base (saves tripping over adjustments) End with single layer group (so you can delete it in one go if you don't like it Named layers, so you know which is which Keep it simple (just the layers, no 'edit ready' adjustments such as curves, sharpening) Fast as possible (so RGB done with channels, CMYK with curves, etc), though new ones need Apply Image which can be very slow! Any bugs, etc. please let me know. Do be patient with Apply Image adjustments and don't try to 'Esc' out as this can leave you in limbo.
    Enjoy!

You can create groups, though it's non-obvious.
Select bottom layer of group. Arrange/Group Select next layer up. Arrange/Move inside And so on.
Currently working on macro set around this and more. May release today if I finish it.
