TIFF with embedded data is a thing - and I’m happy to report that we now import embedded PSD / Affinity data and can write TIFF with embedded Affinity data.   Halftone Filter   We have a marvellous new halftone pattern filter in 1.5 - it can approximate monochrome, colour, circular and line halftones.   Video tutorials: Halftone Scanlines Effect   Improved Apply Image Filter   Users can how use the current layer as the source for Apply Image - or drag any layer from the layers tab into the dialog to use that as thr source. A number of 3rd party DAM applications will happily deal in PSD - but until now, Photo required you to File -> Export for PSD. No longer! You can now just hit File -> Save! You will need to turn this on - in File -> Preferences - please read the warning there carefully!   Video tutorials: Direct PSD write-back (round tripping)   No Thumbnails Option   This is more a Designer feature, but I promised it some time ago so here it is - you can choose (in Preferences) not to write out a thumbnail with your documents. This has the advantage of making your documents use less space - but obviously you won’t get Finder thumbnails, etc.   Improved Vectorscope   Our old HSL vectorscope is no more - replaced by a vastly more appropriate Rec.709 YUV scope with an improved graticule         Improved Photoshop Plugin Support   We have found a significant bug with our plugin code - it has been fixed       :) We are now finding the majority of plugins work properly.   Multi-monitor Colour Profile Support   Sorry it took so long to get this fixed - we now can profile different on different monitors.   Adjustment Performance Improvements   Found and fixed a simple issue which made changing adjustment parameters appear to be slow. Fixed.   Automatic Lens Corrections   Automatic lens corrections (distortion and vignetting) are now supported for a wide array of lens profiles. Improved RAW Colour Handling
 
The way colour operations are handled in the Develop persona has been improved - the difference is most noticeable in images with intense, saturated colours (think low light photography with lots of artificial lighting).

I don't dispute that, but Adobe is obscenely overpriced...  
 
The current feature set and the roadmap of Affinity products should make a lot pf people question their use of Adobe products.
 
But it would be nice to purchase Photo at the same discount as Designer :)
 
 
PS. There desperately needs to be a credible DAM and an import from Lightroom would be fantastic!!!

Please move the back- and the re-do-buttons to the opposite side.
 
When drawing with a pen, the arm is blocking the buttons at the moment. Would they be on the opposite side, they could be used by the "spare" hand, which would speed up the creative process.
 
A "back"-gesture would be fine, too; alternatively or additionally.

I am working my way through the video tutorials (though not in sequence) of Affinity Photo.  Unfortunately this morning have come across two which are not loading - these are "Mask Layers" and "Exposure Merging".  I hope this is the place to bring it to the attention of Serif.   Other video clips are working fine and I allowed lots of time in case it is a buffering problem.

I have Large yellow shape....then I want to  add 2 pen lines to make a new shape on the side of it....and fill it with red....but the darn thing will not close path.....HOW DO I ADD THE LINES AND CREATE ANOTHER OBJECT THAT I CAN FILL RED

I'm coming from Photoshop and there's one thing I struggle to understand in Affinity Photo. It's regarding masking or rather a specific masking process with the pen tool which works naturally in Photoshop and I thought was a basic feature.
 
I added a simple example to show what I'm talking about. Just to be clear, I don't need an alternative method on how to do this. I simply want to know whether it's possible to get done with the pen tool or not.
 
So, let's say I want to mask the yellow rectangle as seen in the image with the Pen Tool. In Photoshop I draw two paths, make a selection and mask it. As result I get my desired yellow rectangle, as simple as that. In Affinity however I'm not able to get this done no matter what I try. It appears to be the case that it's only possible to apply one single path or curve and turn it into a mask. Every additional mask overrides the previous one.
 
That's why I would like to know, am I missing something here on how to do it properly or is it really not possible to perform this action?

During the installation of the Affinity range on Windows, the following issues can be flagged. Please see below the descriptions and possible mitigations available.
Unable to upgrade applications - "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package." This is a known issue with MSI based installers on Windows. Microsoft have a tool to repair corrupted install databases

64-bit CPU not found Your PC only has a 32-bit CPU. Unfortunately Affinity will not run on your PC unless it has a 64-bit CPU.
64-bit Windows not found (but CPU is 64-bit) Your PC has a 64-bit CPU but you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows.
- Please install a 64-bit version of Windows.
Aero requirement to run the Software We require Desktop Windows Management Composition, rather than native Graphics drivers. This is natively on for Windows 8 and 10, but on Windows 7 this is most easily achieved by turning Aero ON. If you are not willing to turn the Aero theme on there is a work around described in this post, but any issues when running the software won't be logged unless they've been verified as still occurring with DWM Composition enabled.

UPDATE: Affinity Designer 1.5.3 is now available on the Mac App Store and fixes the problems described in this thread.
 
*** PLEASE NOTE *** We have just noticed a problem with the latest Mac AppStore Designer update (ver 1.5.2) and are working to resolve it have resolved it.
 
Running this update will reset any brushes, styles, text styles, swatches, keyboard shortcut customization and workspace layout you may have added.
 
We are extremely sorry about this and will have a fix available within the next 24 hours.
 
If you have installed the new update and have customised any settings then please don't run Designer until we have deployed a replacement update (Designer ver 1.5.3). 
 
Alternatively we have a workaround available to save the presets for those users that have updated but haven't opened the app yet.
 
Again, we are very sorry and will make sure this never happens again.

It would be convenient when changing the document size automatically recalculate the size (for non pixel units) <-> DPI as in Photoshop when "Resample" is disabled:   The dialog might look something like this:

Hi, I'm Gregg. I am new to DrawPlus. I've looked  at it for a few years but always decided against it because it was Windows based. I've have always had Parallels installed on my iMac but thought using software more native to the Mac (a lot more efficient to use). I am retired and  dabble in art. My favorite software has been Sketchbook Pro and ArtRage. As for Vector programs for the Mac, they are limited. I have and used iDraw and Artboard. Both have their pluses and minus. So, a couple of days ago I decided to dip my toes in the water and bought DrawPlus 5 to see if I really like working with it on Parallels. I knew from previous experience that it was a really good program that fit in with what I like to do. I made my first entry in the DrawPlus forum and was told about DrawPlus (Beta) on the Mac. I've beta tested for a couple of CADD program and thought this would be fun. I'm looking forward to this program because the Mac needs a really good vector drawing program like DrawPlus.

In photoshop you can cut out an object and cut the background as you go along. I know you can do this in affinity but is there a quicker way to access the cut feature without changing persona.

As per another Forum member suggestion about sharing a photo's I attach this one taken in my back garden just a few enhancements in AP.  I have always been fascinated by cloud formations and have captured many of them over the years,  I thought this particular formation looked more like an explosion than a cloud.  If you look at the top of the cloud you can make out a plane emerging from the cloud.
I am sure there are many more professional photographers on the Forum, I just take images for my own enjoyment.
