Hammer6 reacted to Richard S in Export pdf as an A5 booklet
Could this please be made clearer in Affinity Publisher's "help" or even on the PDF dialogues?
My commercial printing service wanted the PDF to contain "separate pages" rather than "spreads." As someone who is new to commercial printing, it was not obvious how to translate the language of the printer's requirements into language used by Affinity.
    To clarify:
Affinity's "All Spreads" PDF exports eg. facing pages of a booklet as double-page spreads; but as viewed... ie. not arranged for printing. Affinity's "All Pages" PDF exports eg. facing pages of a booklet as a series of single pages, in consecutive order.

Are you using a tablet and stylus to do the drawing? Or mouse/touchpad? Asking because of how fluid your movements are. Really nice work! And what a great application for Designer!

Hammer6 reacted to 276ccm in Synchronised drawing - vector or raster
Just found out how to do synchronised drawing, both in vector and raster.. I'm sure this is old news, but.. for me this is very useful :-)
Once in a while, I'm doing real pinstriping on motorcycles and cars, but I always like to design the motif before I do it with real paint, and its always cool to test with different colours, so for me this was very good news.. and I'm sure it can be useful for a lot of other things too :-)
I´ll post a picture of a car I one pinstriped, so everyone knows what pin striping is, and a video of how it works, and the synchronized.afdesign file you can use too test it out, as I'm not very good at explaining :-)

Affinity Publisher sneak peek! Just to prove we're not making the whole thing up, check out this early build of our DTP app. Still lots of perfecting to do; expect the beta next summer. Enjoy.

Update: I think we have answered all the questions we can about Publisher before the beta starts. Hopefully the public beta will answer any remaining questions when it starts at the end of August.

I colored this inked artwork by Walter Simonson in Photo. The art I had to work with wasn't very high res so I needed to resize and adjust the lineart slightly. Walt is an amazing comicbook artist mostly known for his incredible THOR run.

    Comicbook fans, enjoy!

This works amazingly well, both with Designer and Photo.  And indeed with any other Mac app, eg Photoshop.

Especially useful with a Bluetooth stylus for the iPad (I have a couple - an Adonit Jot Script, and a Wacom Intuos Creative).

Imagine you could create your own groups and organize fonts in them..

Google Web Fonts; Logos; Headings; Paragraphs; Favorite, Serif, Sans-serif, Textured etc....

    This would be so great..

Not sure if I understand your question correct but you can already interact with Lightroom from AP, check out this topic. At first it didn't work with me, but now it does. Still don't know what I did wrong.

What you have to do is to add Affinity Photo as an external editor in Lightroom (in preferences > external editing), et voila you can edit your photo's in AP; save and return to Lightroom.

    Hope this helps!

I would also like to ask for Lightroom compatibility. I edit over 400,000 images a year(from numerous photographers) and any help with automation is appreciated..

Being forced to quit aperture due to the Apple software policy, I switched to Lightroom to catalog more than 150'000 photos and use a lot OneOne Software to edit these photos, so I am supporting the request for a ligtroom Plug in ! Thank you very much for considering this request :0)

Hi there MEB and the AD community.

Been Photoshop a software that have + than two decades running, is plausible to find infinite brush presets and communities that develop them. I think it would make sense been able to import .abr files (photoshop brushes) in AD, since is perfectly legal to enable file compatibilities, and besides having its own file extension, presets and communities.

I am really interested in this feature as well! I work as a concept artist and would like to be able to use all my favourite brushes from Photoshop in AP.

I just got the imac retina 5K and all of Adobes software is really slow on this computer. I put my faith in that AP will be my go to painting app, because it looks really, really promising. If it doesn't have all of the features Photoshop has, then I can live with that, but for me and I think a lot like me, it would be essential to be able to import abr brushes. From what I can see in the brushes options, it looks like it works very similar to how PS brushes are set up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will be implemented!

This is a major one. At the very least license from Frenden or the guys from Art Studio some brushes.

It would be nice not to need Photoshop/Affinity Photo for all web works. Keeping raster and vector layers together so easily is amazing, but without being able to use years worth of custom brushes, it is a huge minus. The custom brushes in designer are ok defaults, but as an artist I don't want to spend any time customizing things I've already customized through much trial and error.

Hammer6 reacted to swilcox in Magnets?
I'm sure this is a simple question. I'm a long-time user of OmniGraffle, primarily for drawing diagrams: rectangles with enclosed text labels, connected by lines to other rectangles or circles. OG has a magnet feature such that when I connect a line to two objects (e.g., to the center point of a rectangle and the center point of a circle), and then move the rectangle, the circle stays put and the connecting line moves with the rectangle. Not sure I've described that well, but I hope you see my point.

It's a fairly simple operation, but something I use all the time for creating my diagrams. Can this be done in Affinity Designer?

Hammer6 reacted to TonyB in svg problem exported in AI
Layer 2 has a blend mode of 'Normal' applied and we rasterise blend modes by default. If you change the blend mode back to 'Passthrough' or uncheck the 'Rasterise unsupported effects' then it should export fine.

Hammer6 got a reaction from Signguy in Export selected object(s) as vector (SVG)
The export persona only exports to raster (bitmap) files, not vector of any kind (to include SVG). I'm using Silhouette Studio Designer with a Silhouette Portrait cutter. Today is my first day starting to sort this out. I ended up taking the objects I wanted to cut and placing them in a new file. Then did a combine to eliminate interior lines (tried without doing that and the Silhouette software cut all lines, essentially segmenting my piece.

With the new SVG eliminating the interior lines, the Portrait cut out my object from card stock (for practice). I think it's only 80 lb so thee was some fuzzing at the cut. Once I sorted out the cut depth, things are looking pretty good. Tomorrow I'm going to do some vinyl cuts.

In a perfect world, Affinity Designer will allow me to select an object or objects and export them to an SVG file which with a page size that is only big enough to hold the exported object(s). I'd also like to see some kind of "print selected" functionality that would only send the selected object to print.

Just a shout out in support of swilcox. Connectors are great time savers if you're doing anything with some kind of a linked, mmm, connector like a flow diagram, info graphic, etc. When you need them, you usually need them badly.
