I love most of the Astute Graphics plug-ins for Illustrator.
Now, if they took a closer look to those tools...

Price is mostly what they can get away with. It's not just the development of the program but the whole package, like advertising, and all the other mouths to be fed working in that company.
I always thought Adobe products were a bit overpriced, especially the last couple of years. People still think that  a high price equals professional software. This is not the case.
You can get professional looking results with free software(inkcscape, Krita), although I like Designer way better then Inkscape, if you know what you're doing.
Photoshop has become the standard, they even invented a word for it(photoshopped) but that doesn't mean it's the only capable editor.

I for one am very pleased that Serif is giving us a chance to switch to other software just as capable and a more responsive development team.

Serif is doing a wonderful job for a modest price. I don't think you can ask/wish for more. (Although there always something to be desired).

It has so much to do with it that most people, who don't know how to use it, or can't pay for it, still want to own it because it is "the defacto standard".
Instead of looking any further for software that might suite them better they just want "the standard" no matter what because all the "professionals" are using it. That's how psychology works.

They are today as they are because they were pirated, just like Microsoft Windows. I purchase all my software but that's how it works.

And they are still using old code and is still sluggish.
In the good old days you'd be needing a new pc every time you upgraded your Creative suite.
Haven't read the complaints about sluggishness of LR lately.

Not so with the Affinity line of products. Fast and responsive.

And that is great. I love the way Serif is innovating. But on the other hand, you don't have to invent the wheel twice. If there is something that is working allready really well, you just could implement that.

That is what most people are trying to say here, I think.

They say: look at other program's tools wich work really well and people love, implement those and keep on innovating and put new tools in other programs lack, this way you get best of both worlds; tools that are familiar to most and work well and new tools only Serif can offer. This makes for a well designed user friendly program wich is still unique.

On the other hand, people must realise that you just can't copy other program's tools....and therefor have to re-invent the tool to be able to implement into your own program.

I personally think you are really harsh here. They do a great job for a modest price. We all know the prices of Adobe before the subscription options.
And Adobe's subscription model is for most the reason to go elsewhere.

Remember that it took the competition also years and years to implement the features they have right now, just wanting them in Affinity Designer right away is not a real world scenario!

"I have to spend my money elsewhere. That ... is... the... whole... point."
If they would ask more for their products and could develop faster you still would be looking for a cheaper alternative with all the features you want?! Then people would be still complaining about the price, like most do for the Adobe subscription model.

The more I use the Affinity products the more I am impressed with the quality and features you get for such a modest price and the software is getting better and better all the time.

    Give them time to develop!

" If you compare your attitude on this forum with more serious and bigger companies, you will observe a more professional approach from the staff in bigger companies. This forum is more or less like open source software forums where stubborn developers take it personal when a majority of the user base turns against them after a bad decision was made and implemented - and other developers even have to fork the code to make a wrong right. "

Don't know what you're talking about here, Adobe never took their userbase serious, never implemented user suggestions and just did as they please. A lot of other big companies work the same way. They pretend to listen and do the things their way. At least Serif is seriously listening to it's user base and trying to implement suggestions.

you have preflight for that, to check if everything is included for the document. I would certainly think Publisher would have such a tool to test if all elements were there.

All that whining over $40. Try updates from Adobe in the past or other software where updates are way more expensive.

For $40 you get a great basic vector program wich will improve in time and I am sure upgrades in future won't cost an arm and a legg either.

For that price, Serif can draw in more new users. The more users they get, the more money they can spend on research and development, wich means faster bug fixes and new implementations of features.

Congrats gentlemen on launching Windows Affinity designer. Thus far I really like it. I am a new Serif user.

I am looking for the trinity(Designer, Photo and Publisher) so I can ditch the Adobe bandwagon. I am not feeling much for being held hostage all my life.
I am still using creative suite 6, but as I am more comfortable with the Affinity products I will more and more shift to the Affinity products. I am quite sure as the software will develop even more, we will have all the features Adobe has and more.

I am Sorry, but i really can't complain about the €40 cost, cosidered what the competition must have for updates, or even Photoshop plug-ins, costing a multitude of the price for designer.

If Serif can draw more people in to buy the Affinity software, it's better for them and better for us as well.

If you have 4000 fonts in your Windows font folder then it will eat up quite a lot of RAM and slow down things considerably. Better use a tool like Extensis Fusion to activate just the fonts that you need during a job. It has also auto-activation of the fonts used in certain Adobe applications.

Never a good thing to have so much fonts in the Windows font folder!
