Requirements: A valid product key, issued when Windows Affinity Photo version 1.5 was purchased.

This is a beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that you may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.

I started in the conventional way, there wasn't any digital. What I learned about drawing accurately, composition with proportion, defining shapes w. light and dark contrast, selecting what portions should be detailed and high lighted, as opposed to those that can be left as backdrop, all those apply to digital images.
 
Besides practice, practice, practice, I'll also suggest that you look over basic composition techniques, maybe (some usually pretty boring) academic drawing studies.
 
Look at a few thousand images from museums. When you find an artist whose work you admire, copy it as faithfully as possible. Its a beginner step, but classically, learning to emulate the master was necessary to get beyond an apprentice.
 
Because you are using digital media, you will have pick up what is needed to emulate the the effects you admire

Hi folks
I was trying out my new Sigma 105 macro on a few flowers in my garden using focus stacking and looked around for some means of processing them and I did some what reluctantly fire up AP to see if it had the means to do it. I say reluctantly because of the terribly slow raw load speeds I get but have to say AP did an excellent stacking job and my faith is restored in AP. But c'mon Affinity peeps let's have that promised raw loading speed update soon please!!

Have to say I'm glad that some appear to be enjoying using Affinity Photo and I'm pleased that others are also enjoying using the latest AP for Ipad but sadly I'm still waiting for the promised raw loading speed update before I can properly use AP for windows. I eagerly await and load each beta update as they come out expecting an increase but still get a minimum 12 secs to load a NEF raw on my i7 desktop which for an impatient person like me is just impractical. Since I purchased AP back in December after eagerly waiting for its release I can honestly say I have not processed a single image with it and while I applaud the AP guys for producing a new version for the IPad I couldn't help thinking that they might have got the Windows version working properly first!. Maybe that update is just around the corner but I'm now waiting to see how Luminar for Windows pans out. I'm just a hobbyist so its not the end of the world but I would like to get out of AP what others seem to get, apologies for the rant.

Been patiently waiting to see if any updates forthcoming to increase Raw load speeds.My copy of  AP launches fine in less than 4 secs but Raw`s (NEF`s) still taking 12+ seconds to load on my i7 desktop :( .

I agree with Rafal, I would suggest cutting Timo some slack and not to judge him too harshly. If I understand correctly he is coming at AP from a professional point of view which I imagine can be highly frustrating if your livelihood depends on the software working correctly. I am just a hobbyist and so can maybe afford to play around with apps and to be honest I bought AP back when it was released but the painfully slow raw loading times just make it impractical for an impatient person like me to use until the relevant update is released.

I have the XP-Star05 and very happy with it. Important to follow the driver install instructions to the letter ie remove ANY graphic tablet drivers and disable antivirus before installing new drivers.

I`ve been looking for some time for a graphics tablet and had decided to get the Intuos pro medium but can`t seem to get hold of one in the UK, SO plan B I started looking on youtube for recommendations and came across the XP-Pen Star05 which I gather has not been out long, it has wireless, has an 8"x5" active area and so I thought I`d order one and if it didn`t work with any of my gear then the excellent Amazon returns would be used. Ordered yesterday and arrived today and have to say I`m delighted with it. Following the advice given I made sure yesterday any tablet drivers were uninstalled, my virus checker disabled and downloaded and installed the latest driver from the XP-Pen web site and waited for it to arrive. Plugged it in, instantly recognised and up and running in about 10 seconds and works perfectly with AP. It actually seems fine with all the software I have, I don`t think it has a tilt feature which I`m not bothered about but all in all I think not getting an Intuos has worked out ok for me as I now have an excellent graphics tablet for a quarter of the price of the Intuos and it works like a dream no lag at all.

Hahaha, I loved the title so much I just had to have a look and see if I could make your request a reality!... and it turns out that your 'ridiculously unreasonable request' is something that we're already doing... ;)
 
I took this video over Christmas 2014 on my iPad Air 2 - it's the FULL version of Affinity Designer running one of the sample images - and it was FAST and the new iPad Pro is supposed to be nearly twice as fast again, so it should be awesome! We've already got a completely new UI under way for the iPad version, so it won't look anything like this, but at least it shows you that we're serious about it and that the tech works really well. Hopefully we won't be too late to the party, but when we arrive we expect to be offering something pretty special!... :)
 

Nice one guys, loads a little faster now! Excellent stuff. Just a quick question do I need to save a backup of Affinity should I ever have disk problems or will it always be available for download?.
