StudioDorgs reacted to Lescot in FLOWER GIRL.
After many dark days I am waiting for spring. Started this with a ballpen drawing (attached) and finished it in Affinity. Many layer fx and gradients used. I really like the possibility to insert different markers in the gradient panel - very helpful.
The idea was she is waking up from a deep sleep, the bird with her. Winter hasn't left yet but the little color-glows are already pointing towards spring.
Used a mix of muted colors and fresher accents.

StudioDorgs reacted to pmeinertz in OMEGA Speedmaster
Hi,
For my fourth try in AD I wanted to illustrate at Omega Speedmaster watch. Think it worked out well :-). Still a few glitches here and there :-(
The hardest to figure out how to make was the wristband with the try to make it look woven. I did it with a costume made brush I made.
I am still amazed how well AD performs. Great to get under the skin of the software. I set my self these challenges (HTC Phone, Nexus phone, Bulb and this) so that I would be sure to really learn to use AD, not just fooling around.
Compared to how I usually does these illustrations Photoshop (Vector Layers), then AD is by far the easiest.
Please enjoy!
If anybody is interested I can upload the original AD file. UPDATE! I have added the AD original file also now.
Br,
Philip

StudioDorgs reacted to Garytagreg in Kindle Paperwhite Poster
I was making a icon to use as a replacement for the one automatically displayed on the desktop when I plug in my kindle paperwhite and it turned out quite well. So, I thought I'd make it even more accurate and make a marketing-type poster.
All vector and all done in Affinity Designer, including all the text, lines and icons on the display.
It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, mainly because its really a lot of rounded rectangle shapes, but that's what makes vector art (and AD) great :)
I'm hoping to make a more 3D-ish one that appears to be rotated around 20~30 degrees around the y-axis sometime, but I'm happy with this "straight on" one, too.
I've also include the icon as a png if anyone would like to use it.
Hope you like it!
edit: re-uploaded the png with a few minor fixes for some strokes getting too big after resizing the layer

StudioDorgs reacted to retrograde in First test piece in Designer from August
Hi all. Here is my very first piece done in Designer from back in August I think. It was done with the initial free beta before the app store version came out.
I wanted to test drive the app after stumbling across it and checking out all of the features and also seeing Jonathan Ball's initial work. It looked pretty promising. So with a sketch I had kicking around of a concept that didn't get beyond the sketch, I dove right in. This idea was one of several I had for a local brewery's new brew called "Full Kilt" a high octane Scottish Ale. I got hooked almost immediately and found the workflow new but not entirely foreign. Things made sense. I immediately made the piece my avatar. :) It's all vector, no pixel persona in this one...

Jake,
thanks for putting this back on my Radar.
Sorry, the bush file has been updated it should work now.
I gave you the wrong file and did not realize it until now.
If you scroll up and redownload the file it will work now. I also made a second double sided Arrow Brush and included it in this download.
Any questions? You know where to find me :P

That's it for today now...If I can figure out how to post the brush, I'll do so in resources..
Coming along nicely, no ?

StudioDorgs reacted to Hanzz in Trying to create the ideal painting brush
I used a picture of crumpled alluminium foil, got rid of saturation, and with levels ,made it almost black and white.I removed the whit to get a transparent background.
Then I gave it a gaussian blur, and reduced the opacity.
So far for the brushtip. It looks a bit pastel like ,I think.
I would like to be able to make a more oilpaint like brush, but This will do for now...

StudioDorgs reacted to retrograde in Derwent Brass Band "Diversity" logo/illo for their latest CD
Hi all, here is a recent client project and my first logo/illustration piece done in Designer. It's for the CD cover of the Derwent Brass, a brass band in the UK. The title of the disc is "Diversity" The idea here was to try to suggest or display some of the many instruments in a stylistic way that are included in the band as a grouping that forms the backdrop for the CD's title banner.
My usual process was adhered to here, approved sketch followed by vector buildup of elements on separated layers. See below for screenshots. I made use of the "erase" blend mode to hide certain areas which worked perfectly. Each letter was "skewed" individually, to conform to the contours of the banner. Colour palette was kept to a minimum of blues and golds and a heavy black outline style was used to delineate and visually connect each element. As usual, it was a delight to create in Designer.
I am looking forward to the up-coming distort and warp tools mentioned in the "road map" to be able to do more of this kind of work with type in Designer.
:)

StudioDorgs reacted to ronniemcbride in What tablet do I use
I received a couple of emails asking about what tablet I use since I don't use a Wacom.
Wacoms are nice and I even own a Wacom worth about 800 bucks that you can draw directly on the screen (the 2 model below the centiq) but I want to sell it because my new computer connection does not have DVI port.
Anyway I use 80 dollar nock off from a company in china that to be honest I think it works just as well as an intuous. for a fraction of the cost. you can check out here.

StudioDorgs reacted to MattP in Rounded everything
Hi yanis,
There's a sneak-peek of me playing with the Corner Tool on Twitter and Facebook - I've nearly finished it and it'll be in one of the next betas, just as soon as it's ready. It goes way beyond the version you refer to - it's more like the Illustrator version but allows you to edit the curve afterwards without forcing the corner to become 'baked-in' to the curve geometry like Illustrator's does (which annoys me!)
It'll be available to try soon :)
Matt
