Thonex got a reaction from Rudolphus in Tedious Callout Tool
Hi folks,
First, I don't want to sound like an ingrate making these suggestions... as a fellow developer, I appreciate your amazing work and realize not everything is as easy as it seems to change. That said ( ), The callout tool is very restricting to work with. As you can see from the GIF below, it should be very easy to orient the pointer in any direction from any side. Unfortunately, the current Callout Tool only points in 1 direction. That wouldn't be the end of the world since I can easily create 4 versions (in different directions) and store them as Assets. However, The text also gets re-oriented... so I have to insert a text box inside the Callout. And finally, the Affinity Publishing Callout won't let you point from the corner of the callout.
How a callout works in another software:
The callout behavior from AP... notice how it won't point to a corner:
Thanks for any considerations.
P.S. I'm very excited about AP!!

You an kind of work around this using artboards:
Select the artboard tool, set the popup on the context toolbar to "Selection" and click "Insert Artboard".
That will give you an artboard perfectly matched to the selection.

Thonex got a reaction from ModernHomePress in Import table data
Yes... well, in this case I'm copying from Google Sheets... and I did select multiple cells from both the source (google sheets) and Affinity Publisher. What I got was all the source in the first AP cell. In all cases, the source was a vertical selection of multiple cells of data.
I hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any more questions or if I can be of more help.

+1. Also, pasting from common sheet applications (google sheets, Numbers, Excel) pastes all info into a single cell. There should be some built-in comma, tab, or space delimited auto-import. Right now it is very tedious to import anything into tables. Unless I have missed something.

Thonex got a reaction from Mr. K in [Implemented] How add Hyperlink (url) on the text
Yeah... this is pretty much a "must have" for me since I would use AP for all our manuals... which also link to Video tutorials.

@Bob Grahame You can get utilities that will do this for you on the fly, temporarily displaying them as an overlay on your screen. I'm on a Mac and recently/finally bought Ergonis' KeyCue. Here's an example showing my current shortcuts in beta 1.7.0.145. Note that this includes a few that I have defined myself and should not be regarded as the default set. Note also that what KeyCue displays is interactive, not just a static graphic that you see here.
Still on Macs, there is at least one other utility that you could try which is free: CheatSheet, from Media Atelier.
I'd be surprised if there wasn't something similar available for Windows users.

I wanted to suggest the same feature: link (set an URL) on artistic text (or an image) and then export the document as PDF (making the text/image clickable).

Move the red dots after you make it and it is only 1/2 as bad. I didn't notice the inverting text thing when you go upside down.

I wonder if there's a bug there, with respect to the text inversion.
I can create a callout, and invert. I can then cycle the selection box (aka, in Designer or Photo, reset the selection box) and the rotation handles for the inverted callout now indicate that it's right-side-up (i.e., the rotation handle is on the top).
However, as soon as I click on it with the Text Frame tool the rotation handle moves to the bottom, and the text is inverted. I think the process of converting it into a Text Frame should have recognized that it was no longer inverted, but it failed to do so.

Thonex reacted to Typo998 in Resizing a Table column affect adjacent column size
You can do this using the CTRL key with mouse click
Unfortunately in this exemple, after changing the value, all 3 columns will have the same width taking the last selected column as a reference width.
In case you are not aware,
If you maintained the CTRL key over numeric fields (applicable all across the program) the value will be incremented by 1/10
If you maintained the SHIFT key over numeric fields (applicable all across the program) the value will be incremented by 10
and you can change the value with the mouse wheel as well.
Thanks!

Hi Thonex,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
Check my reply here and the next one. Currently this is working as intended.

Thonex got a reaction from Rich313 in Angled Text in Tables
Hi there,
I'm using Affinity Publishing to create some tables for a site that usually I would do in Google Sheets with ease. One of the workflow busters is trying to create angled text in cells so that they do not occupy too much horizontal space in a cell. This (AFAIK) is impossible in AP using the Table. One must create text boxes for each cell and then rotate them. And then when you re-size the table, it is VERY tedious to then re-align the angled text with the table cells.
This really should be incorporated into the table's Character > Position & Transform section or the panel Table > Rotation > Angle.

This most certainly would be a very useful option.

Thonex reacted to pmeinertz in Lamborghini Aventador
Hi,
My next personal challenge (to learn AD) was to recreate a sports car. The Lamborghini Aventador is just so beautiful, so it had to be that one!
All work is done in Draw Persona, no images added or "pixels" used.
Really miss possibility to curve the gradient line, but I think I managed to find ways around it, where I needed soft surfaces :-) .
Used a couple of images as reference.
Hope you all like it.
Amazing things can be done with AD, I just love it more and more. Having so much fun, just creating, not having the software being a limiting factor!
Br,
Philip
Just added the original AD file.
