VJS got a reaction from Westerwälder in Affinity Photo v 2 - Masks from selections
Even back to PS6 (and earlier versions), all you had to do was double-click on the mask in the layers panel and the marching ants reappeared, allowing you to add/subtract/refine, etc. the mask. Nothing like that is possible in AP, as explained above. An important feature missing and very frustrating.

Walt, you're a saint! The current document is 412 pages long with many photos. What I've been having trouble with is the Introduction which is spread over 9 pages (not all text). There is a second section of text that covers multiple pages. I I have issues there, I'll send something. I'll try copying those pages only and delete the photos. Never tried that before.
  3. Thanks

I hope this helps. This includes the first section that I've been discussing.

Still struggling to try to obtain consistency. In the example below, all paragraphs in this entire section of text have the same paragraph style applied & pages so far are complying. Then I get to the last 2.5 pages, and BOOM, drastically different leading. Fraying my nerves! Even moving the text frames around (not resizing) on the page has different lines showing.

I won't be at that computer for another 8 days, but I'm assuming if I try the same thing it will crash again. I could then copy that crash report and attach it if it would help.

Walt, I finally figured out what I think you were telling me. I selected the Contents text frame and created a new paragraph/text style for it, which disconnected it from the TOC. Now when I update/refresh the TOC, I only see the chapters listed.
I can be a bit slow at times after using InDesign for twenty-plus years. I have to reconfigure my brain.

The TOC is built from all paragraphs that use the Paragraph Text Styles you select in the TOC panel. You need to make sure the text "Contents" in your document doesn't use any of those Text Styles, or it, too, will appear in the TOC.

VJS got a reaction from walt.farrell in Affinity Photo Batch Job- "OK" button greyed out
You're always quick, Will, thank you.
It may not have been on that screen, but I did select the "Save into original" multiple times and that didn't work.
Then I tried the "Save into" choice and selected the original folder, it wouldn't work that way either. I took a break after spending 20 minutes getting nowhere.
Finally, I tried a new folder. You can see from the "Save as" choices that I selected only JPG. They were finally saved, but there were also copies of AFPhoto created. And none of the JPGs had either Macros applied: files were still 144 dpi and RGB8.
I gave up after wasting 45 minutes and did the four files individually: total time was 5–6 minutes. But that will drive me nuts in the future, and I'll have to go back and use PS or my old standby, Graphic Converter.

I finally found it and unchecked it, and that solved the overall setting. What's confusing to me is that I had been able to have the spacing automatically adjust previously, to different text length and font size. Then it stopped.
Thank you for your continued help to those in need. When I have spare time, I'll go into the Publisher forum and look for posts/answers from you as I almost always learn something new.

VJS got a reaction from Dan C in Affinity Publisher 1.10.5 crashes when you select all text
I had already copied text from a Word document and then double-clicked the Affinity window to get into the text editing mode when it crashes.

This never happened with the previous version. However, it appears that whatever the issue is it's been resolved (after 4 more crashes on the 28) as I've been trying to finish a project for my pastor. Yesterday I work on 2 separate files with no problems; I just opened 6 different files and selected text in each with no problem. I'm sending those Apple crash reports as well. I'm still using 10.14.6 if that could make a possible difference. The crash movie is from the 28th; you might be able to hear the mouse clicking.

    Dan C
Today's email was the 1st I've received. I was able to go back to the previous version 1.9.3 (I think) and it's working fine again.
    I'm on a iMac 27" 2017 running Mojave w/ 32 GB RAM
No error message at all, it's just gone, followed after a 10-15 second pause by the Apple Report to send.
Since they happen so soon after launching, usually within 1-2 minutes (or sooner), that I really couldn't say.
    I hope this helps.
If there's anything else you need, let me know.

Thank you, Walt Farrell. I did purchase directly (always do when possible to keep Apple from taking a big slice). I did not know this link existed.

If you purchased directly from Serif (not from the Mac App Store) you can find all the releases for your application from their site.

Absolutely so! There's no reason a designer should be satisfied with just the way underlines are "built in" a font. Maybe the font's generic way will be OK for 90% of the cases you'll actually apply an underline, but there's those 10% where you want to do something really special – when you know that InDesign had allowed you to do exactly what you're imagining and Publisher (as the newer, more modern app it is) keeps your options to just a very small fraction of those you remember having under your fingers it's certainly disappointing.

Although I might be a bit reluctant myself to use Publisher (yet) for really extensive projects like complete books, I'd say that concerning preflight and packaging there ARE features in Publisher now which seem to do these jobs in a decent way. Haven't really put them to the test personally, though, with something really substantial...

I have no inside knowledge of how the Affinity apps are coded, but building a cross-platform layer means you get to choose which OS-specific features to use and which to ignore. Serif may or may not be relying on the OS for font handling. In the nineties every OS had poor font handling so almost all page layout apps used their own font handling code. But now the OS's do a credible job in this area so it's possible that a clean sheet app, even one with an OS-abstraction layer to support multiple platforms, might leverage the OS for this stuff.
My point was only that it's hard to compare the design choices of a legacy app like XPress or InDesign to a brand new app.

Serif’s legacy apps are for Windows only, and they rely heavily on built-in OS features. The Affinity apps are designed to be ‘platform agnostic’, with shared core code and an OS-specific UI layer.

No. The length of time since it has been requested unfortunately does not have anything to do with it. For one thing, there are many hundreds of requests (many of them good ones that I too would like to see eventually), and Serif can't get to them all right away. Furthermore, so far as I know, Serif has not yet given any indication that they do intend to make changes in regard to further underline options.
