Next Months? How about right effin NOW?! This must be a hotfix within days! Im literally unable to finish my work because of that! Whenever i try to use the feature it randomly takes out points of rectangular shapes and makes it curve. im in the middle of time sensitive client work to finish up the logo and cant finish it because it always produces this crap.

Well, I'm glad everyone is seeing the issue.
Unfortunately, I'm no longer getting the friendly connection when dragging ends together .
It's a very bad sign when a glitch has better functionality than the actual software .
I can offer a workaround that doesn't involve extra nodes though.
(that this is even necessary 5 years in is........ )
Oh, and hitting "Divide" to close something is... hilarious.

If one really applies text wrap to both of two text frames I'd rather expect a warning or error message to make such a contradictory setting obvious for the user her/himself.
(... rather than the effort for a hidden workaround, which also would prevent for the user to detect such an own setting issue)

On the other hand this current "bug" solution (> foreground wins) enables a setting like this for instance:
(which would not be able if two text frames could not have text wrap applied but would need extra wrapping shapes instead)

It is indeed weird. Apparently it occurs if both objects involved in text wrap are both text frames.
In that case text wrap seems to work only under specific conditions. The text frame which should be wrapped must be either/or ...
placed on a layer above (in front of) the wrapping text frame a text frame with ticked "Ignore Text Wraps" an Artistic text frame a text frame with text converted to curves

Affinity Photo already has Smart Object-like features. While actual smart objects are a proprietary Adobe thing, and they obviously don't want to share that and lose their own market share - here's what you can do:
    1. In Photoshop take a mockup PSD and open the smart object and save that as a PSD file. Repeat for as many smart objects there are.
    2. Open the original mockup PSD file in Affinity Photo and notice where the smart objects got flattened - replace those with the PSDs you saved from the smart objects. Place those objects. Then use the Live Perspective Filter (don't use the Perspective Tool as that will flatten the embedded document you placed).  Use as many Live Filters as you want to recolor, distort, blur etc.
What I really would love to see Affinity do is take a group of layers and convert to an Embedded Document without have to copy these to a new document then saving then placing again (that seems tedious for no reason!).
Here is one that I did.  (Including the original PSD as well).  Notice how much smaller the file size is as well.

However, much more need to be developed to make the Embedded Documents function like smart objects.  You can't really warp them or liquify. Other than simple planar displacements they aren't at Photoshop's level of working with more complex mockups.

    @GabrielM
But at least Affinity should be able to read smart object without rasterizing it as single pixel layer.
Photopea can read smart object as smart object.

atesz reacted to Jon P in How to install Finnish language support for Affinity Publisher?
    Hi,
So there are some differences between how you install hunspell dictionaries for Mac/Windows, since we use the Mac spelling dictionaries (which support adding custom hunspell dictionaries).

    On Mac:
Spelling dictionaries may already be available but not active. Check by navigating to:
System Preferences >  Keyboard > Text > Spelling > at the bottom of the drop list "Set up…”. Then check the required language if available. If it is checking it and restarting Publisher will suffice.
If the required language is not available, standard Hunspell dictionaries can be installed for the system spelling to use. These consist of two files, one names xx_XX.dic and one named xx_XX.aff. Copy the .dic and.aff files to the ~/Library/Spelling folder.
Having done this the language should become available to be selected in System Preferences >  Keyboard > Text > Spelling as above. Once checked here they will become available in Publisher.
Any changes to dictionaries require an App restart.
On Mac Hyphenation dictionaries can be installed in a similar way but the must be installed in a subfolder. Navigate to ~/Library/Spelling/as above and make a subfolder with a name in the format xx-XX (substituting xx-XX for the locale id). The dictionary comes as a single file with a name in the format hyph_xx_XX.dic. This file should be copied to the subfolder.

    On Windows:
Edit > Preferences > Tools will show where additional dictionaries are installed, and change be changed/opened. Similar to the above if you create a locale folder xx-XX and paste the aff/dic files for spelling and hyphenation in here the app should pick them up.

Regarding the Finnish dictionaries above. I've got the app to pick these up for both Mac and Windows (although my Mac already had a Finnish dictionary). I can see spelling seems to be underlining Finnish words using the dictionary and am looking into this (I'm not a hunspell expert at all and the structure of the dictionary differs from what I'm used to)

If you copy from an OpenOffice Calc table it should work. (Actually, I haven't tried this with OpenOffice, but it does work with LibreOffice Calc.)
Or if you copy from a LibreOffice Writer table it should work. I've just done one like that.
But, you need to make sure you select a cell of the Publisher table. Don't just put the cursor in a cell. Actually select it so the cell is highlighted. If you only put the cursor in a cell it will all paste into that cell.

Tabbed Text also works but seems to depend on the application you take the tabbed text from.
E.g. Tabbed text works if copied from Word but not from Notepad

atesz reacted to OzNate in [IDML Implemented] How can I open Indesign (indd and idml) Files in Publisher?
Just some early results from me and comments after reading some of this thread... having migrated from Quark to InDesign years ago, I found at that time that converters didn't really do the best job. If you are talking about handing files back and forth and you think you are going to do that between different applications, it's a waste of time. Converting should be a one way thing really.
Anyway, what I've found is that Publisher does a great job of opening PDFs. I always had a habit of saving PDF versions of all projects (that's how we would do proofs anyway). Today I opened a 32 page full colour publication from a PDF. It was good enough that I could probably just tweak or make necessary changes and go to press. If I wanted to fully regain layout functionality, I would need to recreate master pages, styles, and re-link columns and text boxes back into stories. Not that hard really.
When we went from Quark to InDesign for our magazines I just created a new template in InDesign from scratch, including master pages, text and object styles. That was a good time to clean up our styles and layout, and didn't take that much time.
So for me I've come to realise that I don't actually need to open my InDesign files. I have the PDFs for existing work, and so far either Designer or Publisher has been able to open them to use as necessary.
