ivykok, If you look at your first attachment showing the brush you made you will see a small menu button to the right of the "Basic" brush palette. Click that to bring up the brush editing panel. There are quite a few adjustments you can make there to get your brush to behave the way you want. It looks like A_B_C has his brush spacing and other adjustments set up differently than yours.

To expand on what MBd said, you can also change the Matte value on export for PNG … to access this parameter click on More … in the export dialogue, and select white by clicking on the colour well. Same in Export Persona …  :)

You can, however, edit the embedded and placed document, and access all the layers and objects, within any Affinity app. Just double-click on the placed file (in the canvas, not the Layers palette) and it will open up in another window. You can then edit the placed file independently of the entire composition, albeit in the same app (for now...)

    Hi DrCobraMd,

    and welcome here …  :)

I believe what you are looking for are linked documents. Changes made to the Designer document are reflected on the Photo file that links to it. But unfortunately linked files are not supported at the moment. When you place your Designer file in a Photo document, it looses its connection to the original file and won’t update when the original is changed. Linked documents were requested a couple of times in the past and promised for the future, for example here:

    https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/13072-linked-graphics/

    Hope that helps …  :)
    Cheers, Alex

    Hi Paul,

yes, you are right, of course … I just searched for a method that allows me not to go through the whole process of importing my pixel brushes twice … but it seems there is currently no other way to do it. Considered all, perhaps a shared assets folder would be the best solution …

    https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/12906-shared-affinity-assets-folders/

But thanks for your answer, Paul. Cheers, Alex  :)

Thanks, Leigh, for the information … very appreciated. :)

But as far as I can tell, all raster brushes seem to be packed into one file then … so, if I replace my Affinity Designer brushes with the Affinity Photo brushes (i.e. by copying the raster_brushes.propcol file in the Finder), I will loose the first ones. Is that correct?

Perhaps it would be worth a feature request to have at least the brushes categories as single files …

Speaking as a technical illustrator I have two requests which are related.

1 A feature that allows a 'Compression profile', similar to 'Pressure profiles' that can be applied to a series of objects. See attached file. The Compression profile was used to change A into B. Great for drawing tyres!
I believe that a similar feature was used in Draw Plus but it was difficult to control.

2 A feature that allows all 8 bounding box handles to be independently moved for distortion purposes.

These two features used together would be great for creating realistic perspectives. eg When drawing a railway line or fence the Compression profile would be used to create the progressive foreshortening and using feature 2 to create the perspective effect.

So that's why sometimes I can't get certain objects to become a candidate.  Next time I run into this problem I shall need to check the lock status.  Thanks Alex.  I frequently use the lock to signal that I am done with an operation that I am doing to many layers.  Sort of a place mark.

That makes sense, I couldn't figure out why sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't... Yes I like what you are saying as well. I also wouldn't mind the ability to treat Groups of objects (including all objects inside the group) as a single snapping candidate... I noticed the limits of this when I was playing around with the mobile web template someone had uploaded and I believe it was you who modified and added guides to enable the snapping behavior that we can't really do now...

I'm looking forward to seeing what the guys come up with, as Snapping improvements are definitely on their radar...

There will be more connection between the grid and future snapping improvements.  I'll test ways we can snap curve handles to grid axis and other angles.  It's all possible - just need to see how it works when we try it.

Thank you, avo, great resource …  :)

I took the liberty to add guides to your grid for precise snapping … if you tick “Snap to guides” and untick “Only snap to visible objects” on the snapping panel, you can hide the guides without loosing snapping (and without the danger to inadvertently move the guides) … I did this for myself, but I hope you don’t mind if I share it here …  :)
