Jeremy_Waller got a reaction from Mithferion in Moon in Colour
Greetings to All,
Here is a picture of the moon to be included in my montage of moon phase images in colour. This image is short listed to be included in my montage of moon phase images in colour.
All image processing was done in Affinity Photo (excellent program!)
For those who are interested:
The colour saturation was obtained in a 5 stage process (5 adjustment layers) of gradually increasing levels of colour saturation. This colour saturation process will amplify colour noise so one must start with a "low noise image. The low noise image was obtained by stacking 15 images (noise averaging - Greek letter Mu) to give about 4x improvement. For crescent images we might try stacking 25 images for an improvement of x5.
I am trying to find a logical explanation for the green light over the craters.
Regards,
Jeremy.

Photo retouching/restoring.
Client asked "See what you can do."
Could use a little more refinement, in my opinion, but the client had ZERO expectations and was blown away by the results. He said where it was at was fine.
This is the first real retouching job I did with Affinity Photo so it was learning as I was going.
Never looking back at Adobe. The future is Affinity.

Jeremy_Waller got a reaction from W.Ingendahl in Waxing and Waning moons
Greetings Readers,
I have been photographing the moon to obtain ultimately 8 pictures depicting 8 phases. Presented today is my latest image: The Waning Gibbous Moon. This Waning Gibbous Moon appears opposite to the Waxing Gibbous Moon and both these moon images are displayed in this composite image.
The second image shows these moon images as obtained from the camera raw files. Notice that the waxing moon is appreciably larger than the waning moon and this is because the moon is now further away away by 30,526km ! Tomorrow (10-07-20) will be the best time to obtain an image of the waning gibbous moon BUT it will be raining and the moon wil be away by a further 5000km. Well one cannot win them all.

This began life (or was resurrected -- see below) when I was fourteen, at school in 1965 when Games was rained off and I started doodling in a notebook whatever came into my head. I've still got the notebook somewhere, but I can't lay my hands on it just now to show you the original scribble.
But here's the weird creepy thing ... ten years or so later I was idly flipping through a book, A Century of Creepy Stories, at a friend's house, when I came to an illustration ... that was my teenage doodle! It was different, obviously, but had all the elements: the old man, the long-case clock, the water ...
And then I remembered ... when I was seven, we had a caravan holiday in Cornwall. Under my bed, I found someone had left a book ... A Century of Creepy Stories!
The room is by Vidar Nordli Mathisen from unsplash; the bath from a photo by Max Murauer from unsplash; the clock and the wooden posts are my own photos; the other elements I borrowed from the internet.

I knew that these mushrooms were here. Please see:
http://theedibleroad.com/adelaide-hills-wild-mushroom-picking/
From the above site : Amanita muscaria, the Fly Agaric. Fairly poisonous and yet hallucinogenic – apparently it’s a ‘rough trip’
My neighbour (who happens to be a Welshman)and I will be searching for them - we'll keep you posted.
Jeremy.
PS :
Can you do anything with the picture of a glowing mushroom?

Nice picture.
I think those spotted mushrooms grow here in the pine forests. I'll search for one and see if I can get a picture.

The devil finds work for idle hands, they say. I'm not sure if this counts as keeping out of trouble or the devil's work, but I've been amusing myself searching for self-portraits with a window and ... 'improving' them. (All the additional images I found with Google.) See what you think !
Portrait of Bartolomeo Bonghi.
But if you will call yourself Bart Bongy, you're asking for it, aren't you?
"No, YOU tell him he's in my light!"
Marie-Denise Villers 1774 – 1821, self portrait with friend.
Saint Luke reading the government's latest social distancing guidelines to the Virgin and infant Jesus.
Rogier van der Weyden, 16th century self-portrait (He's the one on the right).
Raphael meets Magritte ...
Animated GIF made with JASC Animation Studio
This is a self-portrait by 19th century Dutch artist Louis Meijer, but I've been very cheeky and replaced his painting with some artwork of my own.
I used the Pen tool to select the canvas; if you switch to the Selection brush you can use Refine to, well, refine the selection -- it will do much of the work for you, so you don't have to work so hard with the Pen. I matched the drawing to the mask with the Perspective tool.

Jeremy_Waller reacted to Jonopen in Weevil drawing
Hi all
This image (made for fun as a learning exercise) was inspired by a drawing by the scientific illustrator, Des Helmore.
I must confess my version is not a completely accurate representation of the original weevil beetle, and is also a work in progress, as it needs more detail (hairs) and better shadow and highlights etc. It was originally drawn in colour, but looks more interesting in black and white.
It was made using Affinity Designer and mainly uses these resources.
Dots on legs and body: Fineliner brushes and vector texture from Artifex Forge (makes loads of excellent brushes)
Organic texture: DAUB paper 15 from Paolo Limoncelli, who did an excellent 2020 creative lock-down session
Background texture: a texture file from Trevor Young's (Tapocketa) lock-down session (also very excellent!).

Jeremy_Waller got a reaction from AffinityJules in 5 moon sequence
Greetings Readers,
In collecting moon pictures to make a composite picture we received 5 very clear days and nights. On each night I took a picture of the moon and processed the images in Affinity Photo. These images show the waxing (getting brighter) moon on 5 consecutive evenings. The first (waxing crescent moon), third(first quarter moon) and fifth(waxing gibbous moon) seem good enough to include in my final composite picture. The top sequence contain the original images and the colour saturated version is the bottom sequence.

Jeremy_Waller reacted to transitdiagrams in Proposed future metros - Brno and Krakow
Hey there!
I do transit diagrams and maps for fun.
Here are two recent fantasy/proposed future metro networks which I wanted to show in nice and clean style. For both I found data and maps online but they weren't appealing.
1) Possible metro line for Brno
2) Planned metro line with alternative routing for Krakow
Feedback appreciated! Enjoy them!

Sometimes I wander about our garden with a camera in hand. This morning I noticed one of those blue headed birds that is not only content with eating the Apricots in summer but has taken to chewing the leaves on said Apricot tree. When I feel more energetic I'll set up a telephoto lens and get a decent shot of these birds.

Jeremy_Waller got a reaction from SharonCo in Waning Gibbous Moon and the Cloudless Sky
Greetings Viewers,
I have been taking pictures of the phases of the moon for a photo competition. I need to get 8 good pictures of the different phases of the moon. Early this morning at 05:20 I took some photographs of the Waning Gibbous moon. The two pictures are:
1. The original colour (looks B&W) image.
and
2. The colour saturated image (looks good enough for the comp.)
To give you an idea of the condition of the sky I took a picture of the sky looking to the north-east. The morning was a cold morning with frost on the ground and totally cloudless and very transparent. The joy of having high altitude aircraft grounded for the last month or so. The colour saturation was increased to show the bands of scattered light.
As the dawn progressed to sunrise the "normal" flock of white cockatoos (about 300 - 400 birds) made their way to their morning roost to join with another (approx 1000 birds) then to take off for the days' foraging for seeds and roots etc.
Next moon session is on Saturday - heavy rain predicted.
Jeremy.
