Tim Kyarie
Every time while drawing with Wacom tablet intuos, Affinity Designer either stops drawing after switching windows either within it or to another app. If it doesn't stop it will just draw only straight lines strictly and wont pick any curved strokes. This is happening in both vector and pixel persona. It is extremely frustrating. I often have to restart it and even then after a while, the same problem occurs again. I have added a video in pixel persona highlighting what I am talking about. It's either a windows 10 problems Or it's an Affinity Designer problem. Kindly help resolve this please, it's really really frustrating. Affinity Designer 2019-06-19 09-49-52.mp4
Staff Sean P Posted June 19, 2019 Staff Share Posted June 19, 2019 Hi Tim Kyarie This is a known issue with Wacom tablets. It is caused by clicking on the Designer UI (not the document area) with a Wacom Pen whilst your focus is in a different app. If you click on the document space when the focus is elsewhere it doesn't go wrong. In the meantime as a temporary work around could you go into your Wacom Tablet Properties > Mapping and then disable 'Use Windows Ink'. That should stop it from going wrong. Mark Ingram
We're planning on improving Wacom support in a future update by using Windows Ink, because the two systems seem to compete with each other. pgraficzny, Tim Kyarie, Frozen Death Knight and 1 other
Tim Kyarie
@Sean P Thanks. I have tried having disabled 'Use Windows Ink', it becomes sluggish while drawing with stabilizer. I have tried causing the issue again by clicking on the UI as opposed to the Doc so that I could test if switching between 'Use Windows Ink' would work, and to my surprise it does work without having to restart AD. I hope this issue will one day be sorted. Otherwise am loving Affinity Designer and the rest of the products very much. Keep up the good work Sir. Tim Kyarie
@Mark Ingram Thank you. Hope not far too long into the future . The product is robust and worth recommending to everyone. Of course bugs are expected here and there, keep improving the product Sir, it's the sharpest tool in my shed of design software arsenal. Staff Gabe Posted December 19, 2019 Staff Share Posted December 19, 2019 We have made fixes/improvements to this area (Wacom Tablet starts drawing straight line after changing focus) of the program in the latest Windows customer beta of Affinity Photo and/or Affinity Designer. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below. However, you will need to enable Windows INK inside the Wacom Mapping tab. The 1.8.0.526 beta builds are in links at the top of these beta forum posts. Affinity Photo 1.8.0.526 for Windows Affinity Designer 1.8.0.526 for Windows Once these programs have been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.8.0 update/patch to all customers. Arghmath
Is there any specific date when the 1.8 beta will make to release? As the pen support is crucial for any design work...
Staff Gabe Posted January 2, 2020 Staff Share Posted January 2, 2020 I'm afraid we do not have an ETA for 1.8. Sorry
