GrosseFreiheit
I just now released and (accidentally) closed the symbols panel. Now it also vanished from the view>studio menu. existing symbols are still labelled symbols, but i cannot place new instances or create new symbols anymore. Made the latest update before. Old Bruce
If you are in separate view mode this will happen. Window > Separated View uncheck it. 59 minutes ago, GrosseFreiheit said: Now it also vanished from the view>studio menu. existing symbols are still labelled symbols, but i cannot place new instances or create new symbols anymore. GrosseFreiheit
Sadly that's not the issue. Checked the separated view, then unchecked again ... just to see if this works as a reset. Didn't change anything. Maybe I'm just missing the symbols-panel? The reset studio option didn't help either.

There is not supposed to be a Symbols panel in Publisher, somehow it was included by mistake and will go away permanently as you described and I apologize for misleading you. GrosseFreiheit
That‘s a pity. Especially as I used it extensively. I shouldn‘t have closed the panel ... I once had thge impression that it seemed possible to apply masterpages on other masterpages. That could do the trick. In my case all the master pages have a logo. Next to the actual icon, it also includes some text and its position varies. Symbols were perfect for that. Has anyone an idea for an elegant solution? You can also apply multiple Masters to a document page. fde101
In theory, if you also have Designer, you could transfer the document to Designer to create and apply the symbols, then transfer it back.

I‘ll take a closer look into the suggested solutions. Thank you all for your help.

Walt is right. They don't update themselves, but at least you could start with whatever you had created once and saved as an asset, and then drag a copy over to your document and add or subtract from there. Might save you a little time. That was why I said "perhaps." 24" iMAC Apple M1 chip, 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16 GB unified memory, 1 TB SSD storage, Ventura 13.6.7. fde101
If you open the document in Designer (beta), create a symbol and leave one on the page, then save the document and re-open it in Publisher, you can command-drag it to create another instance on the same page, or copy/paste to create another instance elsewhere. Thus, if you have both Designer and Publisher, you can use Designer to create a symbol which then continues to work in Publisher just fine - but it does look like you would need to switch back to Designer to edit them with sync turned off...
