Better to move on than argue about something you don't understand.

Will do. (BTW; At leat I´m making vector art just for more than 30 years now - so I clearly have no clue.)

If you don´t see the difference in dragging I can´t help myself and I´m finished here.

But the rectangle functions as a fill - and if you disable fill at the text object what do you expect to see then?

The same thing I see when I use an unfilled object type other than text. If this is still not clear to you, please download the 'fill vs no fill' file I attached to this earlier post & note the difference when using a stroked & unfilled cog object as the parent & using a stroked & unfilled text object for that.

It does not work here on my iMac. I think @owenr is right & it is a bug, possibly a Mac-only one? It seems to be confined to text:

Fill vs. no fill.afdesign

I'm on Windows and that is what happens for me. It must be a bug.

I'd expect to see the text become transparent and the box (filled) inside it. What would you expect to see?

But what do you mean by transparent

Do you mean something like this.

Or just a fill, which is not what I would call transparent. It's a fill!

So it seems absolutely clear that the problem is indeed a bug. If you have text which has no fill but has an outline you cannot put anything inside it. The only way to make it work is the workaround of giving it a Phil with a 0% capacity and then putting the object inside it. This works but is annoying! Converting to curves didn't work for me either, strangely. You really think that would work since I can put inside a square or whatever.

Neither. I would hope to see this. The colored box inside the text...
