Restarted, ran Onyx routines. Didn’t help. Reloaded the apps from the Apple App Store. Didn’t help either.

Control-opening the app and resetting all user preferences also didn’t help

Publisher 2.5 works, interestingly. Any help appreciated, I need my Designer urgently..

Please can you confirm where you purchased the software from. If it is the Mac App Store / Microsoft Store (so not bought from the Affinity Store) then we think we understand the problem.

Got exactly the same issue with Affinity Designer v2.5 and Affinity Publisher v2.5.  The app crashes when loading.

Looking at the MacOS crash report suggests an issue with a code exception.  Restart makes no difference.  Needs a fix.

Purchased on Mac App Store. Good to hear you may have identified the problem.

Thanks for your quick response, Patrick. I think I downloaded the suite from the App Store and then paid via In-App-purchase.

OK, sorry. A fix is being built (2.5.1). The only delay will be getting it approved by Apple that can take hours

Many thanks for the quick response and positive feedback on resolving this issue.

As an App Developer I appreciate that you have to go through the Apple approval process!

Look forward to v2.5.1 soon...

Hi @Bryan H,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums & sorry to hear you're having trouble.

The above issue is specific for users on the Mac App Store or Microsoft Store - where updates are installed externally from the Affinity application.

If you are experiencing issues on launch when using the Affinity Store version on Windows, this will be a different issue altogether.

Therefore can you please create a new thread with as much information as possible regarding your issue, and our team will be able to assist further.

Many thanks in advance :)

Also having crashes when starting up Designer and Publisher. Installed from the Mac App Store.

Photo is the only one working correctly on my end. Have deleted and reinstalled but still the same as others.

Is there a way to roll back to 2.4 while there is an update...?

If you installed from the Affinity store, you can download a previous version from the list below.

If you installed from the Apple App Store and can't wait for the fix to be made available, you could install 2.5 (or 2.4.2) from the links below but note that this will result in a second copy of Affinity on your computer, the Affinity store version can't overwrite the Apple Store version. Settings, keyboard shortcuts, and assets won't be copied over. However, you could use this version temporarily until the new Apple Store version is available and then delete it when you don't need it any longer.

We have now released a replacement build 2.5.1 on the Mac App Store which should resolve this issue of Mac Applications crashing on startup. Sorry for the inconvenience this caused. This build has not been released on the Affinity Store, which remains on 2.5.0, as it did not have the problem.

Mac App Store updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. (Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available).

Downloaded. Designer and Photo 2.5.1 are now working just as fine as Publisher 2.5.0. Thank you for the quick fix.

Now that I deleted all my Affinity preferences: Is it possible to retrieve them effortlessly by copying them from my daily CarbonCopyCloner-Backup? (Edit: Found it.)

Patrick - pleased to say that the Affinity Designer v.2.5.1 update is launching just fine.  Thanks.

Affinity Photo v2.5 didn't have the same issue but the update is working fine.

Affinity Publisher is still at v2.5 on the Mac App Store so just awaiting the updated version to be published there.

Yes, we have published All 3 builds of 2.5.1 on the Mac App Store but Apple are apparently slow to roll it to all the servers (it seems). It has taken 24-48 hours for some users in the past. Sorry the roll out is out of our control.
