This is because the hour hand is at 28° and the minute hand is at -60°. The hands in your drawing are very nearly at right angles. You correctly subtracted -60°, but why did you subtract it from -28° (to get 32°) instead of subtracting it from +28° to get 88°? William Overington Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 The answer is 85 degrees, on the basis that the hour hand moves 30 degrees in an hour, so moves 5 degrees in 10 minutes. At exactly 11 o'clock. the hour hand is 30 degrees from the vertical, so at 10 minutes past 11 o'clock the hour hand is 25 degrees from the vertical. At 10 minutes past 11 o'clock the minute hand is 60 degrees from the vertical. 60 + 25 = 85 so the answer is 85 degrees. Have you noticed the extremely appealing gray tone of the hour hand? And isn't the second hand seductively red? It practically invites you to follow it for minutes. Well, I don’t know about following it for minutes, but it certainly invites minute inspection!
