I have started a new photo composite of a scene in my fanfiction where the Denbroughs and their relatives pose together for a family photo on Halloween. This is a preview to see if I done ok on getting the characters into position and matching the right perspective. I wanted to get them into the right spot before starting to alter the lighting, and changing any colors. This is the closest image I could find that matches the basic look of the image: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/happy-family-mother-father-children-costumes-1512368018

Here is the preview:

Looks good. I think the tricky part of the perspective is the hats of the kids seem like they would be colliding. The vampire's arms also seem tricky. Maybe each kid could be on either side?

Like this @TrentL

I want to try to make it look more like early evening, just before the kids go out trick-or-treating. I'm also deciding on if I should make it look more like the front room, or the dining room or someplace else. I got to try to find some vintage 1980s decorations. Plus if I make it the dining room, I'm considering adding a couple of black cauldrons smoking from dry ice with a greenish liquid and a red one to show off a couple of Halloween drinks the mother makes

Yes, I think that looks good. Perhaps move the wizard kid a bit so the vampire kid's hand shows more clearly.

Light and color balancing will definitely be the biggest challenge of this piece, although I think it is do-able. Once thing you'll want to work around is the different lighting for each of the people. For example, the girl on the left, the shadow is on the right side of the face. But vampire kid has the shadow on the left side.

To help unify the color, you could just cover the whole image with an orange rectangle, and then change the rectangle's opacity to something like 25%. You could also play with the Color and Hue blend modes.

@TrentL @AffinityJules @carl123 @v_kyr @firstdefence @iconoclast Here is a new preview. I moved the wizard over a little bit, adjusted the vampire by flipping the image to move the shadow to the right spot and adjusted him. I also changed the photo of the girl to one with better lighting to match better. Plus I added a couple of candy buckets, and a couple of cauldrons for the smoking drinks. Plus I added a kitchen background with counter.

@TrentL @AffinityJules @carl123 @v_kyr @firstdefence @iconoclast Here is a new preview. I duplicated the orange layer, and used the color blend mode and adjusted the opacity of both to keep the green skin on the mother who is the Wicked Witch for Halloween. I also adjusted the coloring on the buckets to blend them into the scene, and added a shadow underneath them. I also adjusted the people a little to blend them as well.

Looks lighting wise good and Ok so far to me. Only the buckets in the foreground, as TrentL already mentioned above, do due to their size & sharpness draw and predominate the viewers attention (viewers eyes go first there). - You can try out if a "Depth Of Field Blur filter" (also known as Tilt-Shift-Effect or miniature) might give the scene a more emphasis to the persons instead.

So tryout something into this direction with blurring (mask out portions on demand etc.)...

Awesome. One thing you could try to simulate depth of field is to make the buckets a little blurrier, too. Perhaps you can find some references online where foreground and background objects are blurry, but the things in the middle are in focus.

@TrentL @v_kyr Thanks for the suggestion. Should I add the filter on each bucket, shadow and counter layer or to a single layer with everything merged? Sorry if I am asking a dumb question. I've never really done depth of field before.

@TrentL @v_kyr @AffinityJules @firstdefence @carl123 @iconoclast Here is a new preview of the composite. I changed the foreground elements around and added some drinks, and vintage party cups. Plus I added a jack-o'-lantern and a cross in the background with a gaussian blur to match as best as I could.

@TrentL @v_kyr @AffinityJules @firstdefence @carl123 @iconoclast Here is a new preview of the composite. I added a bowl of assorted candy and removed the two buckets. I also added shadows underneath the cups for the juices. I also updated the depth of field to make it look better.

If you remove the white part, it will fit much better.

Yes, but soften the edges. Tulle fabric like this is soft and "fluffy"

Take a longer look at it, it's darker than the part in the crook of the arm. And it lacks a bit of fine structure.
I'm a fanatic when it comes to realism.
Otherwise you can leave it as it is.

But it's also a "thankless" motif!

@Komatös Were you refering to the wrinkles at the top? I blurred them as much as I could. That's how the base image from the costume site where I got the image before changing the face to match the actress.

@SolidSnake2003

The red marked part is a bit darker as the green marked. And for my taste, a tiny tiny tiny bit structure missing. And can you see the offset in the worktop?
