Develop Persona White Balance No Longer shown in K

Recommended Posts

Hi @SeamusBerkeley,

It's showing as K for me...

I assume this is using the latest Beta version of Photo on macOS?

Hi @SeamusBerkeley
Does this occur when you open a RAW file? The behaviour you see depends on how you enter the develop persona, if you open a RAW file then it will display K as the information is embedded in the metadata. If you open a JPEG and enter develop persona, it will display % as it doesn't have a reference for what K is.

Appreciate everyone's responses.

Yes, I always photograph my paintings using natural north light in RAW and like to adjust temperature using K as it makes more sense to me relative to the natural light.

Normally, I do K adjustments, then Develop RAW file.

Lately had experimented with developing first, then returning to Develop Persona to make adjustments. Did not know that once, developed RAW file is now RGB and had assumed Develop was non-destructive.

Is there any way to retain RAW after Develop?

In V2, yes. You have a choice of Developing to an Embedded RAW image layer (default), a Linked RAW image layer, or a Pixel layer (only method in V1).

You'd be much better off starting in the Develop Persona to make adjustments to your RAW file...

In the context toolbar, if you then select Output RAW Layer (Linked) or RAW Layer (Embedded), this will allow you to make further edits to your RAW file even after you've Delvopled it, obviously assuming you don't merge the RAW layer with other layers, adjustments or layer effects.

When redeveloping the White Balance will remain in Kelvin.

OK, issue solved!

Did not know that the RAW Engine in Develop Persona Assistant must be set to Serif Labs in order to enable Output as Embedded or Linked.

I had wondered why it seemed possible to do this in the past. Must have changed the setting to not Serif Labs to experiment not realizing it changed output to Pixel only.

Thanks for your help!
