Split Line of Artistic Text

Recommended Posts

A small bug in Designer artistic text tool, I often want to split one line of text into two if I write two or more words on one line highlight and cut the second word and then paste it underneath.
Now when I highlight the second word with move tool it doesn't show the font family, now it I put the text tool at the end of the second word and hit delete the font family is now showing.
Must be an invisible glyph or something.

Would be nice to be able to divide two words into separate lines (Illustrator has a script to do it).

I can't duplicate this on macOS so it must be Windows specific. It would be nice to see a screen recording of the issue, also with the Character and Paragraph panels visible to see if their fields are blank, too.

Cheers

Also, please enable Text > Show Special Characters in the menu. Another screenshot like your first one with that option enabled would be useful, too, but I agree with Mike that a screen recording might show something important.

From a quick test on Windows I don't see this happening, either.

Odds are that you have a Return character at the end of the word "Designer" and that Return Character is a different font. This is the only way I can get the blank font family to appear as you showed in your screenshot.

It would matter if the leading space was in a different font to the main text. Then you could reproduce the issue the user is reporting

We really need a sample Designer document uploaded to the forum

@Dimmo

When I open your Split Text file in Publisher I notice there are no end of line / section / text markers after the word Designer. The strange blue S.

Even if there is no Return character, a change of font at the end of the text (with no text typed in this font, just changing the font menu) will give this empty font menu when you select the frame or the whole line (including last non printing character).

Select the main font again and it will be in order.

The "end of story" character is actually there but it's only 0.1mm in size which is why you can't see it

You can move your cursor to the end of the word "Designer" and then highlight the "end of story" character to see its size in the Character Panel (see screenshot)

You can also zoom into the document to the bottom of the letter "r" in "Designer" (8000% on my screen) and then you will see the "end of story" character

The main font is Metropolis but the "end of story" character is in Arial, which is why you get no font showing when the Art text layer is selected (because you have 2 fonts here)

You can recreate the effect on a normal Art text simply by highlighting the "end of story" character and changing its font

Not sure how this situation arose but perhaps the OP can detail their steps to recreate it (if the Devs require it)
