PeeGeeBee Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Can I organise (re-order) text styles so that the ones I actually use in a document are grouped together? Also, and this may be a different question altogether, the shortcuts for applying text styles are very handy, but is there a way (an additional key command, perhaps?) that applies the text style but DOES NOT change the local formatting? Many thanks. Very new to Publisher and, despite the learning curve, very impressed so far! PaoloT 1 Quote

Other than right-clicking in the Text Style panel and choosing Delete Unused Styles, I think the answer is no. 25 minutes ago, PeeGeeBee said: Also, and this may be a different question altogether, the shortcuts for applying text styles are very handy, but is there a way (an additional key command, perhaps?) that applies the text style but DOES NOT change the local formatting? Nothing except the right-click menu in the Text Styles panel, that I know of. soggybag Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Is there any way to organize Text Styles? Seems like I can create new styles and they get nested under a parent style. Its hard to tell where these will end up some times. It sort of depends on what is currently selected. Once styles are created, they can be edited but I can't find a way to sort or organize the list. Seems like you can't arrange the hierarchical structure either? Is there some way to do these things that I haven't found yet? Quote

Seems like you can't arrange the hierarchical structure either? Text Styles are organized alphabetically and further by what they are "based on" (if you have chosen to have them shown as hierarchically). I have found that if I use names that are descriptive it is much easier to find and apply the proper Paragraph/Character style. My advice is to stay away from names like Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Heading 4, etc. and use Chapter Head, Chapter sub head, Page header, Section Name, etc. soggybag 1 Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. soggybag Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Thanks for the reply! I'd like to arrange styles in a way that makes sense to me. It's hard to read the names sometimes in the styles list. Here is a picture of the styles I'm using. "Body", "BIG", and "Callout 1" are easy to spot. The next style "Callout 2" can't be read because of the background color. "Drop Cap" is also hard to read. There is another gray rectangle that is "Heading 1" which is hard to read and looks like "Callout 2". It would be nice if we could drag these around the palette and arrange them. some times you create a new style, then realize it has the wrong parent, other times you want to put all of the headings together in order etc. Generally speaking, the "previewing" the styles is nice in theory, in practice it might be creating as many problems as it solves. MikeTO Posted May 16 Posted May 16 @soggybag If you click the panel menu (the three line icon in the upper-right corner) you can deselect Show Samples which will make the style names easier to read. You can also deselect Show Hierarchical so they're listed alphabetically, and even Sort by Type so paragraph and character styles are mixed together. But you can't manually change the sort order so if you turn off Show Hierarchical you could name your styles in the alpha sort order you'd like. soggybag 1 Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.6 for macOS Sequoia 15.5, MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) and iPad Air (M2)
