  1. I'm using Space Mono, a Google font. The letters should be monospaced. Affinity Publisher seems to be kearning some letter pairs automatically. See the image. I have Google fonts open on the left with a font specimen. My Affinity doc is on the right you can see the "fi" and "fl" letter pairs are involuntarily kearned. What's going on here, have I missed something, or there an option for this somewhere?
  2. Thanks for the reply! I'd like to arrange styles in a way that makes sense to me. It's hard to read the names sometimes in the styles list. Here is a picture of the styles I'm using. "Body", "BIG", and "Callout 1" are easy to spot. The next style "Callout 2" can't be read because of the background color. "Drop Cap" is also hard to read. There is another gray rectangle that is "Heading 1" which is hard to read and looks like "Callout 2". It would be nice if we could drag these around the palette and arrange them. some times you create a new style, then realize it has the wrong parent, other times you want to put all of the headings together in order etc. Generally speaking, the "previewing" the styles is nice in theory, in practice it might be creating as many problems as it solves.
  3. Is there any way to organize Text Styles? Seems like I can create new styles and they get nested under a parent style. Its hard to tell where these will end up some times. It sort of depends on what is currently selected. Once styles are created, they can be edited but I can't find a way to sort or organize the list. Seems like you can't arrange the hierarchical structure either? Is there some way to do these things that I haven't found yet?
  4. It could have been "Distance From Text". Looking at the image you'll see that there was still a gap. I'd post the files I was working but, I have since solved the issue and moved on. I suppose I could try and recreate it but maybe that's not worth the effort. I figured design wise it was better to keep the chapter heading at the top of the left page consistently. I moved that right side heading to the next page.
  5. I guess this is confusing because I only nudged the end Text frame 1px (I pressed the arrow key once, just a tiny nudge, not sure what the actual measurement is), and the text disappears. The Text Frame is not overlapping anything, you can see there is still a gap between it and the Text Frame to the right. I missed that I had set the Text Wrap setting. It's not obvious what would cause the text to wrap. There is no contact with the Text Frame to the right, or the Text Frame below.
  6. Thanks for the reply. It really looks like the text flows, like some how the Text Frames become linked when they are too close together. I have a spread, and there is an another Text Frame at the top of each on the left and right side. These black text frames are not in the master page. Here are a couple pictures. The difference between the two images is subtle, the only thing that has changed is that I nudged the frame on the left 1 pixel with the arrow key to the right. After taking thee screenshots, I realized the problem had something to do with the text wrap settings!
  7. I have two text frames on facing pages. When they touch at the spine, they link and the text flows across them. How do you stop this?
  8. Thanks I figured this out! Seems a little unintuitive that the default is black text on a black background!
  9. I'm using Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 on a Mac. When I use the Artistic Text Tool it seems to only create a black box. It seems like I can text within this box but I can't see any letter shapes, it's all black. Changing the color doesn't seem to have any effect?
  10. Thanks Walt. That seems to work. I'm worried that this will be a problem with a print service. When export pages 2-29. The pdf ends up with a two page spread as the first page. When I export all pages the first page is a single page, not a spread.
  11. Using a single publisher document, I'd like to export a digital book pdf with a cover, I'd also like to export a pdf for print that doesn't include the cover? Print services seem to want the cover as a separate file. If I want to also export a digital book the cover is missing unless I add it to the document in which case the cover is now a problem for printing. I tried making a copy of the document and including the cover but this seems inefficient since any updates now have to be applied to both documents.
  12. Thanks that's really helpful! I would have replied sooner but apparently I had reached the limit to the number of posts I can make in a day!
  13. Thanks, that worked great! I'm trying to add a stroke to the Text frame but using the stroke palette seems to only add a stroke to the characters and not the box?
  14. I've got a rounded text frame with some digits but if the frame is too small the text is forced out of the box. This seems to be an effect of the typographic properties. Which property do I need to set allow the numbers to appear in a smaller text frame? Here is an image to illustrate the question. These are all copies of the same text frame. It appears there needs to be a little bit of space to the left and right. Without this space the text gets pushed down. This happens in the circular frame at the bottom. This frame is a little narrower than the frame above, this pushes the text below the frame.
