PhotographyRick
Since updating to Affinity Photo 2, I can no longer get the histogram to show levels of a marquee selected area. Checking the Marquee box on top right now does nothing. I can get the histogram to respond to individual layers, but the marquee feature does nothing. In the attached photo, you can see the histogram pushed toward the highlights, despite having the eagle's wings (which are mostly black in the photo) selected. I left it overnight to make sure it wasn't a computer power issue, but I woke up to find it the same.
walt.farrell
This was previously reported against 1.8. I'm not sure if it was ever fixed. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&tags=aw-3981 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. PhotographyRick
I used to use it often, and quite recently. I thought I even used it with 2.0, but not certain. It's a tool I often use, so hopefully it's fixed soon. Thanks for the response. walt.farrell

Old Bruce
Works fine here on Mac OS 11.7 so this may be a Windows only bug. Ron P.
It seems to be working for me, on Windows 10, AP 2.0.3.1688. Are you running the most current release? PhotographyRick
Okay thanks. I'll keep trying different settings to see what fixes it.... Oh, and yes I am using the latest version. Thanks again. Ron P.
PhotographyRick
So I tried this on Affinity Photo 1, and it works perfectly. Unfortunately nothing I do on AF2 works (Change renderer - turn hardware acceleration off - etc.) Initially it seemed like such an insignificant feature, but I am becoming quite a bit annoyed at not being able to make this happen. I'm sure the answer is right around the corner...

But then I noticed this sequence, which seems repeatable: Draw selection marquee Look at Histogram panel. "Marquee" is initially unchecked. Check Marquee setting, and histogram changes. Uncheck Marquee setting, and histogram remains the same as in step 3. Ron P.
I'm not seeing that (#4). I can check/uncheck and the Histogram changes accordingly. I repeatedly check/uncheck, I'll get a slight lag in the Histogram (1 sec), but it does change. walt.farrell 1 Quote Affinity Photo 2.5..; Affinity Designer 2.5..; Affinity Publisher 2.5..; Affinity2 Beta versions. PhotographyRick
Last night I left the marquee tool hovering over highlights. The next morning the histogram was correct, but as soon as I moved the marquee tool to the shadows the histogram freezes. Interestingly, if I create two layers, one black, one white and switch between them, the histogram responds immediately (not even a second delay). Of course this is not practical when I'm trying to darken an image just before the blacks clip. For now I'm creating a custom mask using a square set to erase. Thanks again for all your responses. Staff Callum Posted January 25, 2023 Staff Share Posted January 25, 2023 Hi All, I have added this thread to the original bug report made for this issue so a member of our QA team can look into this and determine if this bug has returned etc. I'll update this thread once I have more info. walt.farrell 1 Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP. PhotographyRick
Thank you. Just a little more info. I've updated to the recent Photo 2.0 and nothing changed. I've since taken the same raw images and edited them the same way in both the old and new versions of photo, and the problem definitely only exists on the new version of Affinity Photo. Thanks.
