big smile Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 The layer panel in Affinity Designer allows you to toggle the visibility of layers by clicking the check box that is placed on each layer. I am currently duplicating some symbols. I find that if I uncheck the layer box on the layer of symbol to turn off its visibility, then all duplicated symbols disappear, even those duplicate symbols that are on separate layers (their layer check boxes will automatically uncheck). Is there anyway to stop this, so I can turn off the layer visibility of one symbol without the other duplicate symbols layers automatically turning off? Thanks! Quote
Staff Callum Posted June 6, 2022 Staff Posted June 6, 2022 Hi Big Smile, The only way to do this is to un-toggle the sync button found within the symbols tab and then make any changes to visibility etc that you would like to make. Thanks C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.

Thanks C Thanks! If I untoggle the sync will they still function as symbols. E.g. If I update one symbol's design, then these design changes will occur on all symbols. From playing around it doesn't look like it. But I wonder if I might be doing something wrong? Quote
Staff Callum Posted June 6, 2022 Staff Posted June 6, 2022 No they wont you would have to re toggle sync in order for them to start functioning as symbols again. Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
walt.farrell Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 You could turn off Sync, toggle the visibility of the symbol instance, then turn on Sync again. big smile 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. This does what the user wants but at the cost of unlinking the visibility attribute from the instance meaning it will never sync again with the other instances if the user needs to revert the process at some point (that is, make the visibility honour other's instances visibility state again). big smile and walt.farrell 2 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
big smile Posted June 7, 2022 Author Posted June 7, 2022 I found a work around to this: 1. Place the instance of the symbol in a group. 2. Now you can turn on/off the group visibility without breaking the syncing of the symbol. walt.farrell 1 Quote
