How to create a rectangle, or any shape, that is a specific size

Recommended Posts

Newby here, trying to figure out if AD has the ability to draw out a certain size shape. In AI, there would popup a dialog to define the width and height of a rectangle for instance. I'm not seeing that feature here :( If I draw out a shape, using the ruler and guides, is there a way to get info about that object, such as its width and height?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Poindextrous. :)

There are width and height controls (and also rotation and shear/skew controls) in the Transform panel in the Studio.

Try Shape Tool (for example Rectangle Tool), and set Absolute sizes in Context Toolbar.

Absolute Sizes is for corners, not the Rectangle itself.

True - a mistake, I only looked in Help. I had a feeling it was working - probably a remnant of another application.

Unless I missed something, it also only applies to Rectangles & Rounded Rectangles. The other shapes do not have that option in the context toolbar.

I'm looking for the same functionality but it doesn't seem to be here as simply as AI.

I'd like to click once (i.e. not click and drag) and then get a dialogue box for the dimensions of the rectangle that I can fit in. With the current AD system I have to click, drag, select then go to transform and input the numbers.

Is there any functionality like I'm describing in AI?

No, that can’t be done in Affinity apps, unfortunately. I wish the option was available in Affinity, too.
