Not quite what it says on the screen

The instructions on-screen for the modifiers all apply to the basic usage of Click or Drag. So, you need to use Alt or the Right-mouse while clicking (left-mouse) or dragging (also a left-mouse action).

What is a bit odd is the sequence needed when releasing the buttons. :)

@walt.farrellWe'll have to agree to disagree on that Walt, I think the onscreen hints are lousy. Plus whoever decided on those left & right mouse actions should be severley admonished, what's wrong with <shift> as used by most of the civilised world? Anyway, happy new year 🙂

Even though I've been using AD for quite some time now I've just encountered this issue for the first time. It had me confused. By accident I discovered that if you hold down the right-mouse button and then left-click (while still holding the right-mouse button down) on different regions they will add to the selection. I have to say that this is a strange way to do things. In addition, as has been pointed out above, the hints on the footer don't really explain how this should work. Given that there is already an established culture of using SHIFT to extend a selection I'm hoping that this is considered for a future update. In addition there is the ergonomics issue of pressing two mouse buttons at the same time which I've never come across in any other software. In Windows-land code to test for the right mouse button can be very similar to the code to test for the Shift key being pressed so I wonder if this is a typo in the source! Let's hope so 😉

As mentioned above, I think a lot of us would prefer a keyboard modifier to trying to juggle the left and right mouse buttons! (or, at least, some way to change it in Preferences.)

FWIW, on Macs CTRL adds to the selection & Alt/Option subtracts from it. Shift isn't used for anything so I think for both platforms it would make the most sense for Shift to toggle between adding & subtracting.
