I'm working on a multi-page document and I set up text frames on my Master page.

The text frames are linked throughout my document to flow over several pages, with one page break between the last sections of text. I want to edit the last page of linked text (ie, the text after the page break), but when I try to click on the text on this page, Affinity automatically creates a new text frame on top of the existing text.  Nothing happens when I click and drag using either the Frame Text tool or the Move tool; I can't select any of text on this page. All the text on the other pages can be selected/clicked on/edited without a problem.

Looking at my layers, the un-editable text looks like it's on its own layer (Frame Text), and all the other linked pages are in another layer (Words...). None of the layers are locked.

Help?

UPDATE: I ended up clearing the Master from the problematic page, then re-applying the master and pasting the text that wasn't co-operating.

Would love any insight to prevent this from happening in the future though.

Without more information (screenshots, and especially a sample document, as mentioned above) there's very little we can help with.

But, welcome to the forums, and congratulations on working around your problem.

  • 5 months later...

I have the same issue. I have created a new document, added text which runs over multiple pages. After I have created the document, I have no problems editing the text but after saving and closing Publisher, and then opening the document again, I can not edit the text. I have come so far to find out that it has something to do with my Master. If I clear all pages from Master then I can edit text, but as soon at I apply Master again I can not edit text. The Master only contain guides, page numbers and a hyperlink.

Why does my master make my text noneditable?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Can you provide a .afpub file that has this problem for us to examine?

Thanks. Unfortunately, everything seems fine with that file for me.

Your description triggered a very vague memory of something similar being reported, but without being able to recreate it to see what's happening I can't come up with what it was. With luck someone else will know. Sorry.

So the file works fine for you? You can edit text with Master applied to the pages?

Yes.

It could be something Mac-specific, and I'm sure a Mac user here will be able to comment on that. Or maybe someone (user, or Serif staff) will remember an earlier similar incident that will explain it.

Herewith file

I opened it in 1.9.3 and the latest 1.10.x betas on macOS Big Sur and had no issues editing the text. It worked completely normally.

That is very strange. I have had the issue for months and in several different documents. Now i just clear Master every time I have to edit text, and then apply it afterwards again. It works but is not the way it should be, I guess.

No problem with your .afpub on me in Mojave either, neither when editing text nor when panning the page. Since the initial OP kckckckc didn't come back before given all asked info might mean the problem got solved there.

What if you login as a different user on your mac + open APub + the file there? (> new, 'virgin' user prefs)

Or differing performance settings in APub's prefs? (Metal on/off, secondary graphic card on/off if it exists).

What Mac model / What APub version are you using? Tried the Beta yet?

No, I even uninstalled Publisher and re-installed it a few days ago to see if that would make a difference, but it didn't.

And Factory Reset (application start with Ctrl)?

What is "No," related to? – Is it the result to the 5 questions I asked above?

And why "even uninstall…" ? – If the culprit for this issue isn't in APub or its files than also reinstalling APub can hardly fix it.

Resurrecting this topic to report that I am experiencing the same problem in 2.3.0. Clearing and reapplying the master seems to fix it.
