Chart Bug DRIVES ME CRAZY

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Right now a bug is giving me an insane headache ... I'll try my best to describe it and hope that someone can help me.

I have a chart with, for example, 5 columns. If I click on a anywhere above the chart, the mouse jumps straight back into the chart. Although I DO NOT click directly into the chart, but outside of it. That only happens when I click something above the chart. If I click somewhere below the chart, I can still click everything I want to click.

This bug is not always present. When it happens to me, for example, is when I have 5 columns and then add a 6 column. With 5 columns everything works great. The bug occurs with 6 columns and more. If I go back to 5 columns, the bug has disappeared. I even recorded a video, but this is probably too big at 125mb to upload here ...

Can someone help me please. I'm going completely INSANE!

Thank you so much!

Ron

I can see the video now. Thanks.
That’s very strange.
I don’t use tables a lot myself but I feel certain that you should not be having that sort of trouble.
I tried a little bit of testing but cannot replicate the problem you are having and have not seen it before.
Hopefully someone else can advise better.
If you do not want to share the original file in public then a developer might be able to give you a private link so they can look at it.

Thanks for your reply. I have a file I can share - still the same problems...

With 6 columns I get the same behaviour but if you select everything but the title and drag it down the page a bit (approx 100mm) then slowly move the cursor up from the table, at approx 57mm the cursor changes from an input text cursor to a table cursor.

If you group all but the title, the table will behave itself with 6 or more columns.

Thanks, I knew it would help to group the "the whole" thing. But this can't be the solution....

What also helps, is, if you ONLY group the chart with itself and "nothing else". See the picture below...  This also can't be a reasonable solution... this has to be a bug...

I agree, something is amiss but it sometimes helps to find workarounds that potentially point to the reason for the bug, unless someone else can come up with a reasonable reason I would probably submit a bug report: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/80-report-a-bug-in-affinity-publisher/

This behavior looks the similar to this bug:

Until this is fixed, there are a couple ways you can select what you want: first, change the order of the layers if possible. I suggest putting the layers from top to bottom in the order they appear on the page. This usually solves the problem for me. Secondly, if this is not possible to reorder the layers because of the design, you can use option-click to select layers beneath the one that is selected.
