Jetdriver Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Items on a locked layer can still be selected by marquee and transformed. The only way to avoid this is to make the layer invisible. I noticed this behavior, after the update, both on iOS and on Mac OS X versions. Quote
retrograde Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Works as expected for me on Mac os Quote http://www.kevincreative.com https://www.behance.net/kevincreative https://dribbble.com/kevincreative https://www.instagram.com/kevincreative/
Jetdriver Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 This only happens in this latest version not the earlier one. I’ll post an example later. Quote
Staff MEB Posted March 2, 2020 Staff Posted March 2, 2020 Hi Jetdriver, Welcome to Affinity Forums Is the layer in question a pixel layer located at the bottom of the layers stack? When a layer is locked you cannot select it directly on canvas (only from the Layers panel which we consider a deliberate action) thus preventing it from being painted/modified. The only exception to this is the background layer (on the bottom of the layers stack) which we deliberately made selectable even when locked (for technical reasons). To prevent it from being painted/changed accidentally, place/create a new pixel layer below it in the Layers panel. This turns your "original" background layer un-selectable again on canvas. StraightFromSpace Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Everything is selectable on locked layer... Quote
Staff MEB Posted March 2, 2020 Staff Posted March 2, 2020 Hi StraightFromSpace, Can you give us more details please? How are you selecting those items? Directly on canvas or in the Layers panel? Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Jetdriver Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 The Designer documents in question have multiple Vector Layers. i used to be able to draw a selection box on the canvas and select just the items within the box that were part of unlocked visible layers only (the selection mode is “all layers”). The rest was always left unselected. Now, both in the iPad and Mac versions, when I draw a selection box, it selects all the visible items, even if they are part of a locked layer. This does not happen If the item is locked individually within the layer. Whether or not it is a background layer does not affect this problem. version 1.8.0.9 Quote

Staff MEB Posted March 2, 2020 Staff Posted March 2, 2020 Hi Jetdriver, Welcome to Affinity Forums Thanks for your feedback. This issue is already being looked at. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Jetdriver Posted March 31, 2020 Author Posted March 31, 2020 I noticed an update was posted for the mac software recently. Any progress on solving this locked layer selection issue? Still behaves strangely for me: if the bounding box is enclosing the object it is selected regardless of whether the layer is locked or not. If the box doesn't enclose the object fully it is not selected. Not sure if this always happens. Quote
Staff MEB Posted April 1, 2020 Staff Posted April 1, 2020 Hi Jetdriver, Welcome to Affinity Forums Not yet, sorry. This issue is still open/being looked at. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
ksk Posted June 7, 2020 Posted June 7, 2020 I can confirm this is an issue on the Windows version as well. KariLiz 1 Quote

Jetdriver Posted August 10, 2020 Author Posted August 10, 2020 yeah... now its not selecting some items in unlocked layers. with "edit all layers" selected, when a bounding box is drawn, some items are not being selected. Also sometimes the bounding box is not able to be drawn until after clicking on the workspace... so whatever the fix was, it created other problems. Mac OS version 1.8.4 Quote
Staff Sean P Posted August 10, 2020 Staff Posted August 10, 2020 Hi Jetdriver, Could you add a video showing the issues you're having please - these help greatly when trying to report issues. However please bear in mind that the default selection method requires the bounding box to encompass the whole object before it is selected. With that said this can be changed in Preferences > Tools to only require intersection. Quote

What are the "technical reasons"? Selectable only the bottom pixel layer is not intuitive. I'd like to know why it need to be selectable. Update: I think the reason is to make its behavior consistent throughout Affinity Suite? Affinity Photo has editable locked background layer. But Photoshop has non-selectable background layer. Quote
