Is there any way to set the toolbar to use the same custom settings I had in 1.7.3? I have Time Machine backups of everything in ~/Library/Application Support/Affinity Publisher (there because I bought APu from the Affinity Store) & in the ~/Library/Containers/ equivalents for AD & AP (because I bought them from the Mac App Store).

???

Are you saying that upgrading to 1.8 did not preserve your custom toolbar layout?

If so, isn't that a bug?

On Windows upgrading to 1.8 preserved my Toolbar customizations

The update to 1.8 is certainly supposed to retain settings.

I wonder if this is the same bug referenced below, though, which affects all 1.8 apps purchased from the Mac App Store:

Yes, I am saying that none of the custom toolbar layouts I had (laboriously) set up in 1.7.3 were preserved in 1.8, not in any of the three apps & (I think, still checking) not in any of the personas. Every one of them was reset to the application defaults.

At least part of this was probably the result of the change to the 'unified' toolbar for macOS versions Mojave (which I run) & Catalina, first introduced in the Mac 1.8 betas. That is at least partially understandable: in 1.7.3 on Macs (any macOS version) the window control buttons & document title (or "untitled" or whatever) were above the application toolbar in a separate header. In the macOS 'unified' toolbar both of those items have been moved into the app toolbar.

Now that I think more about that, because I had set up the 1.8 beta toolbars in Mojave, I probably have those settings stored in some *.propcol or *.dat file still on my Mac, so those would be the ones I would want to reuse in the 1.8 retail versions, assuming that won't break anything.

Same here.

APho & AD are from the Apple app store, APu from the Serif store. Mac OS X El Capitan.

MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2

Of course, if the Affinity apps had the simple ability to save and restore custom layouts this would not be a problem.

I remember when I first raised this, several years ago, some **** saying that this wasn't needed as they would stay as I wanted them unless I deliberately reset them myself!!!

I bought AP & AD from the Mac App Store & APu from the Affinity Store, so while it sort of makes sense that because I am running Mojave my toolbar settings could not be preserved, it does not for you because the 1.8 versions do not AFAIK use the 'unified' toolbar in any macOS version older than Mojave.

In my case the settings for the various studios are kept from 1.7. Same for the background grey level i've set in Preferences. Everything else (toolbars, tools) got reset.

Now that you mention it, my Tools panel layout was partially reset -- it still shows 2 columns & at least some of the tools are still in the same relative positions as I had used in 1.7, but all the horizontal dividers I added went missing, in all Personas in all 3 apps.

Yes, R C-R, that's also the situation i encountered; it was just the dividers.

Yes, this is so frustrating, as they sometimes also get reset when the app crashes. It would be nice if all Affinity apps could save the layout like Adobe with the possibility to have also several layouts. I use several layouts for example if I’m working only on the MacBook Pro (w/t my second screen) , then I change to the "small screen" layout, otherwise I use the "double screen layout".
