  1. Hey I started looking through the Affinity Workbook and am a bit disappointed...On page 11 you reference your social media accounts, and under the Vimeo logo it says, "Learn how to use the Affinity suite with our comprehensive video tutorials at www.vimeo.com/macaffinity." I was excited about this because I learn better hands on vs reading directions. So, I was a bit surprised to see that there are literally only 2 videos on the channel, and they are from 2 years ago. I am aware that there is a bunch of videos all over the internet, but I was hoping for something that went in some type of order. It would be awesome if a set of videos came with the workbook to go along with it in sequence. Do you plan on updating the Vimeo channel? Thank you for all the hard work put into such an amazing program! Jen
  2. Hi I’m putting tutorials together on Skillshare about designing with grids, and I use Affinity Designer as my vector drawing tool of choice. Some teachers feature the software they use, e.g., Ai in the title and/or cover image for the class. What is Serif’s views on the use of the name ‘Affinity Designer’ and logo in third party tutorials, and are there any usage/style guide requirements? Chris
  3. Kann ich die PS-Tutorials alle Anwenden, oder gibt es da Einschränkungen? Can I use the PS tutorials, or are there limitations?
  4. Hi Everyone, I just bought affinity designer, but was wondering if there are any good resources for complete beginners? I am looking for something like an in depth guide. I wanted to order the workbook but my country is not listed. Thanks for the help in advance. Regards, HDK
  5. Just found this site: http://www.graphicxtras.com/tutorials/tutorials-affinity-photo-designer.htm Includes useful notes.
  6. Hi, When i run tutorials from Affinity Photo on my iPad Pro, i get a black screen. Is it possible to run the tutorials from Safari ? ______________________________________________________________________________________ I have found on the forum a document with links to Vimeo and You Tube displays of the tutorials. I havé tried links and it is OK.
  7. Hey all, I'm really happy to announce that I've just released the first few videos of my passion project, the Shooting Series! What it's about I love photography and video - I'll often go out and shoot specific material for use in the Affinity Photo tutorials to demonstrate certain features, and this has fed into my desire to cover a mixture of well-known and esoteric shooting techniques. It's my goal, then, to produce a video series that looks at all kinds of weird and wonderful photographic techniques - from shooting for stacking (long exposure simulation, noise reduction) to light painting, "big stopper" effects, portrait panoramas, focus stacking landscapes.. the list goes on. I'm constantly gathering material and planning/scripting videos, but I've just put the finishing touches on a few of the videos and felt it was about time to share them. Where applicable, I'll also be providing sample materials to download. Additionally, I've also put accompanying articles up on my website that provide some additional tips and insights. Long Exposure Water - Watch on YouTube - Read article In this video we're looking at the popular technique of using long exposure times to create shots with blurred motion; in this particular case, we're focusing on water. When you shoot water with long exposures, it takes on a smoother, "flowing" and sometimes ethereal appearance. In the video, I cover the use of both variable and fixed Neutral Density filters, as well as square filters with a filter bracket. Burst Stacking - Watch on YouTube - Read article - Download sample images Here we're exploring the use of stacking in post to create a long exposure look from a burst of images. It's a very esoteric technique, but can prove very useful in certain circumstances: you could, for example, find yourself in a situation where you want to achieve a long exposure look to some water, but don't have either a means of stabilisation or any ND filters to cut down the light for a slower shutter speed. I've also provided a ZIP archive with image samples for two of the compositions so you can stack them and see the effect. Big Stopper - Watch on YouTube - Read article - Download sample images In this video we're taking a look at setting up the camera for a "big stopper" effect with landscapes, as well as exploring stacking in post production to both enhance and emulate the effect. Also provided is a ZIP archive with image samples for two of the examples so you can experiment with stacking them. Polarisers - Watch on YouTube - Read article In this short and sweet video we're taking a look at polarisers, examining their benefits and caveats. Portrait Panoramas - Watch on YouTube - Read article Check out how to capture more vertical space in your panoramas by shooting in portrait orientation. --- Hope you find them interesting and useful!
  8. I have just watched two tutorials from the home page. After they are done the voice does not shut off. Now I am hearing voices from the two tutorials at once and going nuts. HOW do I turn them off please.
  9. Official Affinity Photo iPad Tutorials New to the latest update of the app (1.6.9), we've got a brand new set of tutorials that follow a more structured approach. You can access them from the Tutorials option in-app or by following this link: https://affinity.serif.com/tutorials/photo/ipad They are sorted into categories: Basic Operations Advanced Corrective and Retouching Creative Tools Filters and Adjustments Export Persona Just some quick info about the new videos: They're all shot in 4K resolution (supported on desktop machines) for extra clarity. There are localised subtitles for all the languages supported by the app (English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese Simplified, Japanese). Hope you find them useful! James
  10. I just downloaded Windows Version 1.5.2 of Affinity Photos. Many changes but not a single tutorial explaining where past features went and how to use modified ones. Worst part... no concern by Affinity.
  11. Hey there, I'm wondering if there are any tutorials specifically for putting the website design together and making it work. Is it simply html coded after designing a webpage in AD? For instance, how would you make functioning buttons and links from it? I don't mind the html part, I just need to know if the UI kit includes that type of option to make the buttons I create do something. If there's nothing AD can do for that, how are people creating mobile/web interfaces with their AD designs? Second question, are there any tutorials on how to make keyboards with the UI kit for mobile? Just keyboard skins. I've already viewed Affinity's tutorials on the UI kit, they don't answer these questions for me. Thank you~
  12. Are the images used in the help video tutorials available - this would be very helpful.
  13. While I'm on a roll, I figured I may as well post some more recent photography edited in Photo ;) Some of these you may recognise from the video tutorials: Lone Purple by James Ritson, on Flickr One of those nice surprises you get sometimes, I didn't think much of this photo until I started experimenting with blend modes - at which point it became very moody and striking. Spinning Out by James Ritson, on Flickr An abstract long-exposure shot of a spinning record. I was shooting some video for a personal project and decided to grab a few stills too. Monsal Tunnel by James Ritson, on Flickr A very wet day in Derbyshire, which kind of spoiled the view over Monsal Dale. There was this tunnel, however, which is really atmospheric with all the reflections from the damp areas. Sugar Factory At Night by James Ritson, on Flickr Shot at night, the initial image lacked impact until I brought in some brush work and blend modes - this resulted in the Creative Painting tutorial, where you can enhance colours in images with artificial lighting. Robin Hood Hotel by James Ritson, on Flickr A disused hotel building in Newark (Nottinghamshire), and I've brought some colour into the sign using brush work with blend modes (mainly Overlay, Reflect and Screen). That's all for now - just wanted to share some work, hope you find it interesting!
  14. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see the latest added tutorials. Thanks. Hello Everyone, In the last couple of weeks I shared in the Forum different topics related to video tutorials I upload to my YouTube channel. To make it more practical, I'm gonna share them and new ones in just this topic. Feel free to scroll down and find all the videos I already uploaded. If you want to know a bit more about me and what to expect, then keep reading. Photography (and design) is part of my life for more than twenty years. I began working in the advertising industry in the 90's and from there I covered many different areas from the creative process to production. Today I mainly do portrait photography, fine art, special assignments and some design projects. In the last years and as a certified trainer, I began to share what I've learned and continue to learn in workshops. I mainly cover Portrait Photography, Black & White, Digital Workflow and Retouching. For the love of sharing my passion about photography, I decided to start making video tutorials and this is the reason I end up here. The amazing software the Affinity Team made gave me the enthusiasm we normally have when we get a new toy. For me it's been a fantastic experience and discovery of new ways of doing the same things in a different, and many times better, way. And this experience is what I want to share with you. This is also the reason I'm going to cover more the Affinity apps in a photography scenario. But you can expect more, a lot more... I'll also be covering photographic tips and techniques and other software that I find relevant to my/our work. This is the case of Capture One Pro that will have also a special feature. Apart from this I'm also preparing some "extras" but that's for another time What to keep in mind: Every time I make a tutorial where I create a special resource, like a macro, a brush, a style, etc. I'll share it for free. You just need to follow the video tutorial or blog post to see the download links. Some tutorials also have a related post in my blog with more details. You can check it here: (available in Portuguese and English): http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/ The tutorials are made in Portuguese but they have English subtitles. Nevertheless I make them in a very easy to follow pace. For that reason they are suitable for both beginners and advanced users. The list I have for upcoming tutorials is long but if you have a specific topic you would like to be covered just let me know. You never know if your request is my next tutorial. This was the case of the Glow Effect video. I'm going to share them chronological so the new ones will be in the end of this topic. Finally my idea is to share tutorials on a regular basis so feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel to be the first one to know about it: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxdrAaW4Zr9lYktQmt5O4VA You can also subscribe to my Blog where you can find other topics: http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/ Sorry if I made this introduction to long, but it was important for me to share this. I hope you'll find each tutorial a useful resource and also a source of inspiration. 15. Overall the tutorials are fantastic and an awesome feature of Affinity. However the "Raw: Developing Images" tutorial has a lot of "click on the Chromatic Aberration Reduction will reduce chromatic aberration". Uh, well, if the viewer doesn't know what chromatic aberration is then this doesn't teach them anything (same critique applies to most of the rest of that tutorial for even simple things like "contrast" which probably everyone actually knows what contrast is)
  16. Good day everybody! To support the huge release of Affinity Photo 1.5 on both macOS and Windows, we have 36 new video tutorials for you that cover most of the new features in great detail. In addition to that, 4 older videos have been revised and updated to match 1.5's new functionality. We hope you enjoy the 1.5 update, it's a beefy one! 17. Now that there are so many (excellent) tutorial videos it is getting a little difficult to find the one you want, at least if you're looking for one that you have already watched and remember it has just what you need in it. What was it called again? Which one is it? Working on the principle that a picture is worth a thousand words may I suggest a thumbnail against each tutorial please? For instance I've just watched the milk float video. A really nice photo by the way. Darned if I can remember what it's called but the milk float sticks in my mind. Regards, John
  18. Dear Serif, Please can we have the Affinity Workbook as either an online option that is accessible through the program when working or as a downloadable PDF. The print in the book looks very small, so I would find it very hard to read, assuming that it is A5 size. Will you be doing it in a larger size of large print? Thank you
  19. Hey guys, If you are fit in german or german based user, you can follow my channel on youtube, where I made tutorials for affinity now. The first video was about how to start with APhoto https://youtu.be/JdHa29RCfCk The second tutorial about RAW developing is online since few minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d76jl6S8Gs Have fun and feel free to share your comments, likes and thoughts about it with me. cheers, seb :)
  20. Hi All, For a number of months now behind the scenes we have been producing a workbook for Affinity Designer, and I'm pleased to let you know it is available from today! This is a big book - 448 pages, in hardback - and it includes fantastic projects created by some top designers, as well as a comprehensive reference to all our tools and panels, and a set of core skills tutorials. You can find more information about it here. Usual price is $49.99 / £37.99, but we are running a 20% discount for the launch making it only $39.99 / £29.99 (+ shipping and handling). It's worth pointing out that right now the book is only available in English but we do plan to do a German version which should be available towards the end of the year. Hope you like it! Thanks, Ash
  21. I'm working my way through the Affinity Designer tutorial videos to familiarize myself with the program, and there's some inconsistent behavior between what happens in the app on my machine and in the video. When alt-clicking the add button to create a compound shape, the video tutorial merges the shapes into a non-destructive compound shape. Yet, on my computer, doing so causes the top shape to disappear. The strange part is, the top shape will reappear if the position of the tear drop is moved far away from the top shape: or moved higher up into the top shape: Additionally, even though both shapes have the stroke set to none, there's still a gap between the two shapes, which indicates that it's not possible for Affinity Designer to do a non-destructive compound addition properly: It's very confusing to have the program behave so inconsistently when following an in-house tutorial video — is this (another) bug, or did I miss a step and not set an option/preference properly?
  22. I'm new to affinity, trying it out to see if I like it. But I'm struggling here.... How do you delete or erase part of a line segment in a shape? I have two overlapping shapes, and I want to make them into one and delete the overlap. I rasterized the shape, but is there a way to un-rasterize it in its new form? Or is there a way to get a cleaner cut from a line segment with out it being pixelated in the first place?
