  1. It might be nice if the Initial Words text formatting functionality was extended to allow the user to specify whether the End Character(s) were displayed or not. This would allow us to have variable-length Initial Words formatting while using the same paragraph style instead of needing one style for each slightly different scenario. See the attached image which, I hope, explains it better. P.S. This is a very low priority suggestion. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't then that's fine. Just 'popping it into the pot'.
  2. I can add stroke just fine. I suppose I should build a scenario. I make a text, I convert this text to curves then add a stroke to make the text appear more bold and appear the way I want it to, but then when I export the file (to .svg format) and send that file over to another software for another use, the text (already converted to curves and with stroke) appears without any stroke. I've checked on the .svg file when exported and it's fine, but when the other software reads the file it only reads the curves not the stroke. I understand you can't change the way another software reads an .svg file. My question is if there is any way for me to add the stroke as part of the actual curve itself on Affinity. I've gone around this by tracing the entire stroke around the text (converted to curves) itself on other projects, but its very time consuming. This process more than triples my the time I have to work on each project with this problem. So any help is appreciated, thank you
  3. It might be nice if there was also - along with Initial Words - a Final Words formatting scenario with exactly the same options as Initial Words but from the other end of the paragraph. The attached image shows a few examples of use but there are probably more. Not really sure how useful this would be to most people but it would have been useful to me on at least one occasion. P.S. This is a very low priority suggestion. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't then that's just fine.
  4. I know how to attach text to a curve in designer, but can't find the option in photo. Does it exist? If so, where is the feature / button TIA, Jeff
  5. Hello! First of all: Happy new year! I wish you all the best for 2019! I have noticed that the vertical alignment icon disappears whenever I have more than one text element selected. I still have the possibility to do it via the menu Text > Vertical Alignment but as I need it quite frequently it would be nice to have it as an icon as well. Btw: In the 1.6 version I have this useful function. Best regards, Chris

  7. Hello. I created a diploma design for my school and was wondering how I could add all the learners names. Every page needs to have a different name as it is an diploma for another learner. The trouble comes when I need to insert hundreds of names and what the different diplomas goes for. That could take hours. Is there a way to automate this? Is there a way to have all the names of the learners and what they get diplomas for in a list, like in excel, and then automatically import them (line 1 goes to page 1, line 2 goes to page 2 ........ line 159 goes to page 159 etc.)?
  8. Hi all I made a simple page with some text overlaid on a box behind it. I then flipped the items on the page horizontally and all looked OK until I printed it. The text had 4 lines of text with the top line Underlined. The text came out to the right of the background box, and the underline on the top line stayed in the box. I have attached a picture of the screen and printer output to make it clearer. Thanks Vince
  9. I want to use an artistic Brush to outline my text in Affinity Photo. How does it work?
  10. I can not find a text style picker in Affinity publisher, it would be nice if that function comes with it in the future?
  11. Hi, It wold be lovely to have google fonts browser integrated directly into Affinity Designer for iPad. So you can browse through type catalog and have search criteria like serifs, sans-serif, condensed, display etc... Also Adobe Type would be nice but i konow that is far fetched :) Cheers! Igor
  12. I am currently designing some custom blu-ray covers for my films at home and build everything off a basic template file. When I edit in the release date of the film I have to adjust the year in a text field on the front, on the back, and multiple times in the copyright block below the barcode. I was thinking it would be great if I could edit all of these at the same time so I don't have to hunt down every instance of it. I think the best way to do this would be to have a system of global variables. I could create a custom variable called [Date] and embed that in my template file. When I start to work on a new film cover I would simply set that variable to equal a different year and in one action I will have saved a lot of time. The same logic could apply to graphics as well if a user needed to replace a logo.
  13. I was wondering if it was possible to warp text in Designer. I attached an image with what I am trying to accomplish.
  14. I'm working on a monogram for a client and converted the text to curves so I could change the shapes. This is what I ended up with. But I would really like to combine these into just one object. It's not working. Combine and add fills in the loops. I know I can group these and keep them together that way and is what I will do now because of the deadline. But can anyone show me how to combine separate text converted to curves, into one object without filling in all the centers? This is something I do fairly often, especially when using text for an SVG cutting file. I also do it so I can bring into a raster program and flood fill with a pattern or texture. Makes it a bit easier if it is just one shape.
  15. Maybe I didn't search well enough, but I can't find where to specify a number of columns in a text frame. Can someone help, please?
  16. I downloaded the attached custom font file and of course, it automatically went into Affinity Photo as a font, although when you put in capital Is in the text of the font the Is display as Js, please may someone provide a solution to the bug? Fibel Nord.ttf
  17. Every time I try to change and replace the text's colour it crashes. I've converted it to curves but then I don't know where to change and replace the colour unless I select element by element manually or on the layer panel. Any tips until this bug is sorted? Thanks, IR

    Find Edges on Text

I need to create large documents average 2 x 4 feet at 300 dpi for sign graphics. I place the text and then “find edges” in Photoshop, but my computer died and I want to be able to do this all on my iPad Pro and Dropbox it to my printer. I’ve tried several different ways in Affinity. Can anyone tell me how to do this please? I don’t want my printer to have to use a ton of ink for a graphic that I’m just going to transfer to a sign and then throw away. Would also Love to just use Affinity for everything and skip Photoshop all together if possible but I must be able to do this. Thanks so very much! Joanne Hopper
  19. Hi everyone, First post here and I'm not really sure what the correct term for this would be so I'll give it my best shot to explain myself... Is there a way in Designer to link different text together so that if I were to change the content of one layer it would also change in the others? My use case here would be to create a document with 6 different logo mockups, each with a name and a tagline. I'd like to be able to change the name and tagline of one of the mockups and have it change the content of the other 5. Each of the mockups would be using different fonts so all other settings should remain the same, only the content should change. Is this possible? Not a big deal if it isn't but it would be useful. Thanks for your time. Have a great day!
  20. Hi Apologies if this has been sorted elsewhere, probably very easy to sort out too. No idea what I've managed to do here but how on earth do I get my text back to normal, i.e. horizontal!! Quite bizarre as happens on both machines I'm using Publisher on Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  21. Good day, may I ask a dumb question. How can I change the background of a text frame or artistic text?
  22. Hi, team. On attached screenshot you can see word "HIERARCHY" with diagonal line on top. Tell me, please, how i can split "HIERARCHY" word by this diagonal line? Best, Andrew.
  23. Hello, Is Shape Text on Affinity Designer 1.6.5.123 not working? why the text is outside the circle? I see a tutorial on Youtube, it's working. But mine's not. Any suggestions? Thank you!
  24. Hello all, I have a question. I just recently started testing Affinity Photo and would like to know how you can copy the style of the text (without identifying font) and replace a word on the existing document. It's a scanned version of a photocopy of a document. So let's say I want to replace the word SUSPENDISSE with AFFINITY and everything else remains the same (See attached document as an example) How would do that? First I'd need to erase the word and then afterwards use the clone brush tool and find all the letters you need one by one and and paste it on top of SUSPENDISSE? Thanks in advance.
  25. Hi all. I searched the Designer help for "kerning" and got zero hits. So that's the first major problem. I selected a line of text, and examined the Character properties panel. In the kerning drop-down, everything except "Auto" and 0 was greyed out. I also noticed the "Character" and "Paragraph" buttons in the toolbar. Clicking on them didn't appear to change the type of text I was defining. So why are they there? In other vector programs, selecting text with the node-selection tool lets you adjust kerning by dragging a control point on each character. Not in Designer. So is this functionality just missing? Thanks for any insight.
