  1. I am finding that at times when I create a text frame the Letters start outside the frame, sometimes they do not, any ideas please?
  2. It might be nice if the Initial Words text formatting functionality was extended to allow the user to specify whether the End Character(s) were displayed or not. This would allow us to have variable-length Initial Words formatting while using the same paragraph style instead of needing one style for each slightly different scenario. See the attached image which, I hope, explains it better. P.S. This is a very low priority suggestion. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't then that's fine. Just 'popping it into the pot'.
  3. I can add stroke just fine. I suppose I should build a scenario. I make a text, I convert this text to curves then add a stroke to make the text appear more bold and appear the way I want it to, but then when I export the file (to .svg format) and send that file over to another software for another use, the text (already converted to curves and with stroke) appears without any stroke. I've checked on the .svg file when exported and it's fine, but when the other software reads the file it only reads the curves not the stroke. I understand you can't change the way another software reads an .svg file. My question is if there is any way for me to add the stroke as part of the actual curve itself on Affinity. I've gone around this by tracing the entire stroke around the text (converted to curves) itself on other projects, but its very time consuming. This process more than triples my the time I have to work on each project with this problem. So any help is appreciated, thank you
  4. It might be nice if there was also - along with Initial Words - a Final Words formatting scenario with exactly the same options as Initial Words but from the other end of the paragraph. The attached image shows a few examples of use but there are probably more. Not really sure how useful this would be to most people but it would have been useful to me on at least one occasion. P.S. This is a very low priority suggestion. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't then that's just fine.
  5. If I I copy some text from the web, and paste in to a Art text-box, it turns to frame text immadietly, and I cant even switch back, so I have to type in texts. iOS is 12.1.2 device iPad Pro 12.9 (2017), with Apple Pencil. For any further details, I am happy to assist. By Adam
  6. Hello. I created a diploma design for my school and was wondering how I could add all the learners names. Every page needs to have a different name as it is an diploma for another learner. The trouble comes when I need to insert hundreds of names and what the different diplomas goes for. That could take hours. Is there a way to automate this? Is there a way to have all the names of the learners and what they get diplomas for in a list, like in excel, and then automatically import them (line 1 goes to page 1, line 2 goes to page 2 ........ line 159 goes to page 159 etc.)?
  7. I want to use an artistic Brush to outline my text in Affinity Photo. How does it work?
  8. Hi, It wold be lovely to have google fonts browser integrated directly into Affinity Designer for iPad. So you can browse through type catalog and have search criteria like serifs, sans-serif, condensed, display etc... Also Adobe Type would be nice but i konow that is far fetched :) Cheers! Igor
  9. Hello, I really need this feature for a project. How to make a text link to a url with AD? Is it possible ? If not, do you know an other way to put it ? Thank you. Regards. Bilel
  10. I am currently designing some custom blu-ray covers for my films at home and build everything off a basic template file. When I edit in the release date of the film I have to adjust the year in a text field on the front, on the back, and multiple times in the copyright block below the barcode. I was thinking it would be great if I could edit all of these at the same time so I don't have to hunt down every instance of it. I think the best way to do this would be to have a system of global variables. I could create a custom variable called [Date] and embed that in my template file. When I start to work on a new film cover I would simply set that variable to equal a different year and in one action I will have saved a lot of time. The same logic could apply to graphics as well if a user needed to replace a logo.
  11. 1. Text import After fifteen minutes with the beta , it transpires to me, that Publisher lacks import or placement of text or table data. Even if I am an idiot and the morning is early, this essential step in digital typesetting should have jumped into my face. Not even pulling a text file from the file manager into the Publisher interface does do anything. If data import is not yet implemented into the beta, it should have been! How are users supposed to test a typesetting program without anything typed? Being an author and being a typesetter are two different professions, which do not overlap. A typesetter does not copy and paste any text. He does not write anything on his own into the layout, because it is not his name, which will be on the title of the publication. A typesetting program without data import is worthless. 2. XML Workflow If you publish a new publishing program in 2018, it's all about XML workflow. Nothing else really matters in these days and in the future. The application has to be able to import proprietary XML as well as standardized XML like DOCX, ODT and HTML. A scripting language will be needed, and this can only be Python (not Javascript as in Indesign). 3. File format .afpub To my horror, the file format .afpub itself turned out to be binary, as if we were living in 1990. It has to be a container with XML! This would have catapulted you ahead of Indesign, which does have all the other XML features apart from the indd file itself. No professional publisher will store layouts in an inaccessible file format.
  12. I'm working on a monogram for a client and converted the text to curves so I could change the shapes. This is what I ended up with. But I would really like to combine these into just one object. It's not working. Combine and add fills in the loops. I know I can group these and keep them together that way and is what I will do now because of the deadline. But can anyone show me how to combine separate text converted to curves, into one object without filling in all the centers? This is something I do fairly often, especially when using text for an SVG cutting file. I also do it so I can bring into a raster program and flood fill with a pattern or texture. Makes it a bit easier if it is just one shape.
  13. I downloaded the attached custom font file and of course, it automatically went into Affinity Photo as a font, although when you put in capital Is in the text of the font the Is display as Js, please may someone provide a solution to the bug? Fibel Nord.ttf
  14. I need to create large documents average 2 x 4 feet at 300 dpi for sign graphics. I place the text and then “find edges” in Photoshop, but my computer died and I want to be able to do this all on my iPad Pro and Dropbox it to my printer. I’ve tried several different ways in Affinity. Can anyone tell me how to do this please? I don’t want my printer to have to use a ton of ink for a graphic that I’m just going to transfer to a sign and then throw away. Would also Love to just use Affinity for everything and skip Photoshop all together if possible but I must be able to do this. Thanks so very much! Joanne Hopper
  15. Hi everyone, First post here and I'm not really sure what the correct term for this would be so I'll give it my best shot to explain myself... Is there a way in Designer to link different text together so that if I were to change the content of one layer it would also change in the others? My use case here would be to create a document with 6 different logo mockups, each with a name and a tagline. I'd like to be able to change the name and tagline of one of the mockups and have it change the content of the other 5. Each of the mockups would be using different fonts so all other settings should remain the same, only the content should change. Is this possible? Not a big deal if it isn't but it would be useful. Thanks for your time. Have a great day!
  16. Hi Apologies if this has been sorted elsewhere, probably very easy to sort out too. No idea what I've managed to do here but how on earth do I get my text back to normal, i.e. horizontal!! Quite bizarre as happens on both machines I'm using Publisher on Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  17. Good day, may I ask a dumb question. How can I change the background of a text frame or artistic text?
  18. Hi, team. On attached screenshot you can see word "HIERARCHY" with diagonal line on top. Tell me, please, how i can split "HIERARCHY" word by this diagonal line? Best, Andrew.
  19. I'm glad to find Affinity Designer. The most feature I want is Freehand File Import, for I'm a long time Freehand user and un-happy with AI. So I download the Trial version to try it. For the first try, AD is make me comport. Although not as same as Freehand's behaviour, I still feel good in it. But in the most important feature for me, “Open Freehand File” got a problem. After I open or place a Freehand file by AD, ALL text elements are gone. The graphic is OK, but text are just missing. I have thousands of Freehand file and looking for a alternate for me to use in a new Mac. (The old one I keep it in OS X 10.6.8 to use Freehand, but it is 8 years old already) AI CS5 can open Freehand but AI doesn't made me happy. I hopes AD can be my end of searching.
  20. Hello, Is Shape Text on Affinity Designer 1.6.5.123 not working? why the text is outside the circle? I see a tutorial on Youtube, it's working. But mine's not. Any suggestions? Thank you!
  21. Hello all, I have a question. I just recently started testing Affinity Photo and would like to know how you can copy the style of the text (without identifying font) and replace a word on the existing document. It's a scanned version of a photocopy of a document. So let's say I want to replace the word SUSPENDISSE with AFFINITY and everything else remains the same (See attached document as an example) How would do that? First I'd need to erase the word and then afterwards use the clone brush tool and find all the letters you need one by one and and paste it on top of SUSPENDISSE? Thanks in advance.
  22. Hi, Please, can you give us an estimate date on which the feature that will allow us to export text from Affinity to Photoshop and keep the text editable will be live? Please, I'm practically begging, I love this friggin app, and this is the only thing keeping me from working with it. PLEASE! At least an estimate! Thank you, Chris
  23. Hello everyone I have a query for you I'm experimenting on a project in which i would need to add text on a blindfold and make it look as if it's painted on/on the blindfold . I found that "negation" blend mode gives the best results in terms of visible texture of the blindfold , however because of the blend mode and the light unnatural black spots appear . How would you guys suggest getting rid of the black spots (The issue is at the R letter where there is quite a lot of distortion of colors)
  24. Please can you add a Shortcut for Text Horizontal Scale, need this often for manual paragraph fine-tuning.
  25. Windows 10, Publisher Build 145. I've noticed something about tight text wrapping around a curved shape that seems wrong, but maybe someone can explain it to me. Have a look at the first attached image. The text is 7pt Arial on a 9pt baseline grid. The filled blue circle is a layer that has tight text wrapping with a gap of 2pt all-round. The outlined blue circle - on the right-hand diagram - is 4pts wider and taller than the filled blue circle (observing the 2pt gap of the text wrap). As you can see, the text is further away from the circle at the top and bottom than it is at the right. I can understand why, for example, "hendrerit" below the circles isn't anywhere near the outlined circle because the baseline forces it to be further away, but I don't understand why the other text is so far away from the circle. The second attached image shows the same sort of issue but it looks a lot worse there. Can anyone explain why this is supposed to happen, or is it a bug? It just doesn't seem quite right to me. (I've also attached the afpub file in case anyone wants to have a play with it.) tight wrapping round curves.afpub
