  1. I am getting some funky looking pdf outputs. It only seems to appear when special effects have been used. It appears AD is bit mapping the area, understandably, but not doing a very good job of it. Thoughts?
  2. This might be a stretch, but it's just a suggestion. I almost always need solely vector output. All of the neat things in AD (grain textures, blend effects in particular) are raster-based, sadly. So I cannot use any of that. I wish there was a preferences menu item that would allow me to hide any and all functions that would ultimately lead to rasterised areas. That way I could see what I have to work with an avoid anything that would lead away from pure vector output at the end of the design process. What I really wish is that all the beautiful effects AD has could be vector based.
  3. Hi guys, I am currently attempting to export a rather large, complexly layered SVG file and am having trouble tracking down the content which gets rastered during export. I have actually noticed that sometimes certain grouped elements can create this effect, and by ungrouping then regrouping them can solve the problem, which i guess this may be a bug? My destination for the content must contain zero raster elements. My question is is it possible to identify specific elements which need to be rastered in order to export to SVG successfully so that i can remedy these instead of toggling visibility on everything by process of elimination until i find it? Edit: I have isolated the suggested bug as mentioned above, and have attached a file demonstrating this. Export to SVG indicated elements will be rastered, but if ungrouped then regrouped no rastering occurs and can be exported as normal. group.afdesign
  4. Is noise a vector or raster effect? I would like to create vector images, but will adding noise compromise this?
  5. Hello. I hope this is the right place to ask this basic question. I'm a photographer, not remotely an illustrator. But need to convert a logo created in Photoshop {sorry, I've bought both your products but haven't learned them yet <g> } to a vector image for silk screening, not something I normally do. Do you have a description of how to do this somewhere that I haven't found or can you give me some guidance? If I did this with Illustrator, I'd first use "Threshold" in Photoshop to turn everything into blacks and whites, then import into Illustrator, select the image, then use Tracing/ High Quality Photo and export as a PNG. It's text plus a photo converted to a silhouette, or will be. What is the process in Affinity design? Should I export the image in JPEG or PSD format? Save out as PNG or other? Thank you in advance. best / jim
  6. Attempted to blend an imported photo into a black background using the transparency tool, something I've done many times in the past, but this isn't working in version 1.4. Anyone else? Any solutions?
  7. Hello, As i see you are continuously improoving AFD ,i would like to propose very usefull feature for export formats using transparency like PNG and PSD. A smooth edges option for removing jagged edges would be much appreciated. It would be some kind of automated feather along borders. Tell me what you think about it please. Regards, Alex.
  8. Hi there, I am used to Corel Draw, and am trying AD as an alternative because of the lack of a native mac version of corel draw. One thing that works very well in Corel is the trace feature, whereby you can convert a bitmap or other raster image to vector curves. Can you do this in AD?
  9. Hi there, I'm working with a document currently that has several embedded .afdesign files (as they were created in Affinity originally). However, when I export the document, all these elements are rasterised and become ugly. This is an issue as I'd like to be able to have one logo which I make tweaks to, embedded in some mockups. Is there a way around this? I really like the way embedding is implemented other than this. Cheers, D
  10. One of the main thing that I missed in AD when leaving Illustrator was the Image Trace option. Just to let anyone struggling with that kind of decision - there's a small cheap app (£3.99 pounds) in app store called Image Vectoriser. I hope I don't sound dull, like I'm advertising anything... just a simple solution for anyone that has a problem with this feature when leaving Illustrator.
  11. When scaling the SIZE of a paint brush the DENSITY of the brush changes also. Please look at my image. It is the same brush. Below the stroke has been downscaled but it also affects the density which I don't want to happen  But I'd like to keep the same density for a brush in various sizes. Is that possible and how? I hope someone has a great tip :) Thanks a lot!
  12. Possibly I am displaying my complete lack of knowledge about how computers work (seems like magic to me) but I recently switched from PC to MAC and while overall I wish I had done so years ago I really miss Paint Shop Pro, which I have used for almost 20 years -- but I'm now looking for a replacement. Your program actually looks really good but I note your emphasis on vector mode and I do a lot of stuff with raster layers also and I'm wanting to make sure that Affinity also works with raster layers before I check it out.
  13. Hello! I'm not quite sure where to post this, but I couldn't find anything about it, so here goes: I'm making a logo to be printed as a car sticker, and it has a lot of gradients and some line pressure going on. Client requested that I give it to them as an eps, but unchecking "rasterize gradients" meant that anything with transparency became completely solid. - this using the Beta. I then tried saving as a pdf, which did preserve the look, but rasterized all transparent objects, and removed the line pressure simulation. I opened these files both by using "open..." and "place" in Affinity Designer, and the results were the same. Same thing as the pdf happened when copy-pasting into indesign. Is it even possible to have this kind of transparency in an eps or pdf? And line pressure? Or do these effects have to be rasterized? (Screenshots explaining are linked in the text.) I'm new to using vectors, so sorry if this has a very obvious answer. :) EDIT: And now all the affinity designer files I output are corrupted :/ EDIT: None of the png or eps files i output can be opened by photoshop because it cannot "parse the postscript" or "parse the file." Is this an affinity problem?
  14. I could not help myself....I keep noodling around in the pixel personal. I think I am getting antsy about getting my hands on the Affinity Photo ;) Ohnmmmm, patience. Anyway, all done in Affinity no third party tools required. :)
  15. Hi all, here is my first AD drawing. It was very interesting experience and after few different approaches drawing is complete. Best, Greg
