  1. I would like to be able to switch to the move tool from right within the colour picker. Currently, ctrl is in use to pick from the document palette, but I think it should be used to switch to the move tool, like in other parts of the software. The reason being is that I want to select elements and change their colour with the colour picker, yet I can't select other elements other than switching tools. This should also be possible by holding a modifier key. This is also what Illustrator does and it makes working a lot easier if you don't have to constantly switch tools (two presses as opposed to one for holding a modifier).
  2. Often times, I find myself wanting to join curves when I have the move tool active. I select a the curves I want to join and, when it didn't join them, I come to realise I need to switch to the node tool, hit the hotkey and switch back to the move tool. The workflow would be a lot cleaner if you could also join curves from within the move tool.
  3. Hi Forum! I have a problem: I want to collapse 2 points of a curve, not to one point, but with a distance. I know this function from many 3D programs like Blender or Cinema4D. See Figure 1. Figure 1: Here the problem is shown simplified on a cube--> trapezoid. But this problem is much more general and can be applied to many different shapes! (I know the trapezoid tool!) I always use workarounds for this e.g. 1: I use an auxiliary curve and then align the points and delete the auxiliary object. See Figure 2. Figure 2: Workaround 1: Use helping curve/object (in black). 2: I only work with coordinates. (I do this very unwillingly!!) So here is my question is there a key compination to achieve this? The problem sounds so simple..... AD is such a good program so I can't believe I am the only one with this problem. Thanks for your help!
  4. When editing inside a text box in Illustrator I simply used my left thumb on the CMD key to change the cursor to Illustrator's "select" tool, and when I lifted my thumb I could go back to text editing. As far as I can see (and I may be wrong) the only way I can get from inside a text box back to then "move" or 'node" tools is to go to the screen and choose it from the toolbox. Otherwise I have typed my shortcut in the text box. Is this correct?
  5. Is there any way to set the Move tool "arrow" tool (v) as default instead of the hand tool or view tool (H). Normally you just use space bar to move around using the hand tool, for easy work flow you want to be able to edit right away when opening a file etc. and for that the select tool off course needs to be default (exactly as in Photo shop)
  6. I have been using the processes shown in a video tutorial by David Straker and one thing that is supposed to happen according to the video is different. The Move Tool in Affinity Photo - YouTube Query - at about 4 mins 52 secs into the video you double-click on the rectangle and show that the selected tool is the Move Tool. However when I do that it goes straight to the Node Tool. Is that a change in Version 1.9 (or even earlier) please? ..... or am I doing something wrong?
  7. Overall performance is good for me, but there is a lag when trying to use the node and move tools with a pen. The node or object selected doesn't start moving until a *long* time after the drag starts, and in that time the pen is a long way from the original touch point. After the delay, the object or node snaps to the pen position. Things are smooth after the initial delay-snap. Other features are smooth as well. Drawing with the pen for example is perfectly smooth and lag free. I am using a Surface Book 2 with maxed out memory, and the latest version of Designer. Having the base attached or not makes no difference. I tried turning off the "tap and hold to right click" feature in Windows and various settings in the performance tab. Nothing I have tried so far makes a difference. Also note that the CPU is basically idle and I am just trying this with one object. This is super annoying, especially after using my iPad for editing, where the same features are buttery smooth. Even editing over a wifi connection on the Mac with AstroPad is a better experience. Any suggestions on how to fix this with a setting somewhere? If not, are you working to improve this feature? I would like to use my Surface Book more with Designer, but this is a total buzz kill for me. Thanks for an awesome Mac and iPad version. I am really looking forward to a better experience on Windows.
  8. I noticed with last upload in Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo that now I can select object with Move Tool without draging mouse over whole object as you can see in video bellow, but that does not work for Affinity Publisher, or AD and AP within Publisher. A Friend of mine can not select object in this way in Affinity Designer, it is the same as before, you have to drag your mouse over whole object to select it?!?..Does anyone else have this issue? I mean it would be great if it could stay this, but I think it is some kind of glitch on my version.. Video_2021-03-10_082616.wmv
  9. Using Affinity Photo 1.8.6 on a fully updated Intel iMac running Mac OS 10.15.7 (19H15), I have the following major frustration, when coming from Photoshop: One of the "holy grails" of using Photoshop is that you can switch to "move mode" allowing you to select layers and move stuff around freely just by holding the command key on a Mac (control key on a PC). Sadly this doesn't seem to work on Affinity Photo, or work reliably, and I am forced to hit V or select the Move tool manually. Considering the move tool is mostly used as a "click to select other layers" tool, and considering that I do this perhaps more than any other thing when working with an image, we'd really like to get "command + click = select layer and move always" to become a thing in AP. In. my example, I have various layers and am moving them around, organizing them into whatever final layout I need. I need to easily select the layer without de-selecting the tool I'm using (brush, eraser, whatever). But I have to type V and move into Move mode before I can do these selections. This is one of the biggest frustrations coming from Photoshop. (Yes, I know AP is not Photoshop and I shouldn't want it to be, but I've got 30+ years of muscle memory using Photoshop and it will be to the benefit of Affinity Photo if more users can easily move over and work in the way they're accustomed.)
  10. Using the “Move Tool” I am unable to select any object without dragging a selection rectangle completely around all of the points encompassing the object. Yes, I know one can simply touch on the path of an object but there should be a way to select even multiple objects by dragging a selection rectangle across any part of an objects path. We need a way to possibly use something like “command-drag” a selection rectangle across any part of an object to select the entire object. Example, if there were three objects then we can select all three by simply dragging a rectangle that encloses any part of all three objects at the same time. Just something to consider. Any thoughts? Max 
  11. I am getting a bit annoyed when working in publisher. Say I edit a document and edit some text and then want to move a object I need to click on the arrow/V move tool. Trying to shortcut using "V" ends many times up with writing "V" or creating new text with "V" in it. Is there another better way to cancel / deselect?
  12. Hi, I'm trying to resize and scale the contents of an artboard that I duplicated. I've searched the forum but am only finding posts from people trying to do the opposite (expand the artboard without scaling its contents). In this post: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15756-resizing-artboard-also-resized-layers-inside-of-it/?p=71554 MEB seems to suggest that using the Move Tool to resize an artboard will indeed scale its layers accordingly, while using the Artboard Tool resizes the artboard without scaling its contents. I've tried resizing the artboard with both tools but they both do the same thing (resize the artboard without scaling its contents). I've also tried using the transform panel but that also does the same thing. I've also tried using the Document Setup panel which does have options for changing size and scaling the contents or anchoring them to the page, but these options are greyed out and unselectable. How can I resize an artboard and scale its contents in one go? Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  13. I came to the forum today looking for a way to replace a certain keyboard shortcut functionality I'm used to in Adobe products. Specific examples of operation given below are from InDesign; from what I recall Illustrator is pretty similar and Photoshop is a little different. I only found one post here that was even in the ballpark, so... Scenario: you're editing text. Obviously you can't use "V" to select the Move tool; that will just insert a "v". OTOH selecting the Move tool with the cursor is a pain if you just want to do a quick move and get back to editing text right where you were. The Adobe convention I miss: If you have the text tool selected (also applies to many other tools although not always in the exact same way) you can press and hold CTRL (PC) to switch the cursor to the Move tool only as long you continue to hold CTRL. As soon as you let it go, the cursor reverts to the Text tool (or whatever tool you were using). But wait, there's more. Having pressed and held CTRL, you can then add SHIFT or SHIFT+ALT in order to zoom in or out, or if you add SHIFT+ALT and then release CTRL, you get the Hand tool and you can shift the artboard. When you release SHIFT+ALT, you're back to whatever tool you started out with. It's still second nature to me even after years of very infrequent use. Fast and hassle-free. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see any way to add this kind of temporary tool select modification to the keyboard shortcuts myself. --- Disclaimer: I no longer use graphic design software on a daily or even monthly basis, and for all the years I've used Adobe products, I'd still call myself a noob. My copy of Adobe Creative Suite is v3, so... yeah. I should also point out that I am thrilled at the quality, facility and AFFORDABILITY of Affinity software. A boon for a guy like me who has a few skills that occasionally come in real handy, but rarely generate significant income -- certainly not enough to justify Adobe prices.
  14. When I try to select a graphic element often times the Move tool selects items in the vicinity which are in front the desired element. In this example I have a red triangle which I am trying to select. There are three black lines in front of it. No matter where I click on the triangle I always select one of the lines. I haver tried to zoom in very close to make the selection but it didn't help. The work around is to either move the black line to the side or to the back. Both strategies are too time consuming.
  15. Hey There, I have spent the last hour and a half trying to figure out why the move tool is not working. I am trying to resize. I have read forum posts with the same issues and their responses, but nothing seems to help. I am working on a Dell Laptop (Inspiron 15 5000). My layer is not locked (see picture below) I also included my Edit/Preferences/Tools screen (see picture below) This (move tool) seems like a basic, but without getting past it not working, I am unable to do what I would like. Thank you so much! Sarah
  16. Is there a way to rotate multiple objects around their own rotation centre, without selecting each one? I have a graphic with many (100+) objects, that have to be rotated, and can't really find a solution.
  17. I have Affinity Designer 1.8.3 (latest stable), and I experienced this bug since 1.8 When Artboard is selected and I want to rotate it with "Move tool", it doesn't show the "rotation marker", by which I can rotate it. It appears only when I start moving Artboard with Move tool. Little bug but annoying sometimes, especially when you have lots of content inside artboard! My specs (ask me if you need more): Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4 (latest) MacBook Air 2017 Affinity Designer 1.8.3 (bug comes from 1.8v) Screen_Recording_2020-04-20_at_15_03_20.mov
  18. Hi, I am currently manually stacking a lot of moon shots. Thus i have to move and rotate the layers since the moon moves and rotates slightly. Moving wokes like a charm, but rotating could be a little better. Now I have to grab a corner node to rotate the picture, which makes me see only the very outer edge of the canvas. My suggestion would be to introduce a modifier key so I dont have to grab the node anymore, but could rotate the picture using the mouse anywhere on the canvas. This would allow me to rotate and check simultaniously. With shots like this not only the corner is of interest since the atmosphere distortes the pic all over the canvas and I have to check for the overall matching not only the corner matching. Thanks Matt
  19. When included in a macro, the move tool (Transform) dialog trying to change the 'Scale X' or the 'Scale Y' goes to 1000% when entering any value in the value box.
  20. If a text frame is selected with the Move tool File > Place opens a File/Open dialog that defaults to a file type of "Text files (*.txt...)". In this case it also displays *.docx files. And in this case no other file types are shown in the file-types dropdown menu — when the bug has occurred, that is. A Word file isn't a "text file" (IMO). So that "Text files" file-type item seems misnamed. If a text frame is selected with the Text Frame tool File > Place opens a File/Open dialog that defaults to a file type of "Affinity files" — when the bug has occurred. In this case .docx and .txt files are not displayed by default. In this case, the next file-type item in the dropdown menu is "document files" which does not include files of type .docx. This seems like an omission that could be fixed. A Word doc certainly qualifies as a "document," methinks. In this case (again, when the bug has occurred) you can't see *.docx files in the Open dialog unless you scroll through the dropdown file-type menu and select "Text files" which is now near the bottom of the list. But again, as a Word document is not a "text file", the .docx extension should be added to that item in the dropdown menu. But — when I close and re-open Affinity Publisher, the behavior of the Open dialog (following File > Place) changes for a while. Then, File > Place with the Text Frame tool selected defaults to a file type of "All Documents" — including *.docx and *.txt. At some point during the session with the program, however, for whatever reason the default display of file types in the Open menu changes unpredictably. I don't know how to provide precise repro steps, sorry.
  21. Can Affinity Designer allow the user to use the modifier CMD in Mac temporarily to use the Move Tool? This was so helpful in Illustrator. I find in AD that holding down CMD acdtually shows the Move Tool, but I cannot actually use. This means that when working with a text I must go to tools or use my shortcut, which of course means that I have to use ESC or some other method to exit the text itself. It would be so much easier simply to hold CMD, move the the text box and then release CMD. Perhaps this would not work with Art Text.
  22. Q1: I can't Drag to Select multiple ellipses (each is on its own layer). Is this something in my Snapping Settings? Q2: at the Bottom pop up menu when move tool is active are the following choices: Add to selection; select under; select inside; about center; and then 6 more small icons -- what are these for??? here is what my current Snapping settings are: Note that under Document> Snapping: there are these settings: (is this why I can’t drag/select multiple objects?) Enable Snapping is turned OFF Force Pixel Alignment is turned OFF Preset is set to Custom Candidates is set to Candidates List (greyed out as Enable Snapping is OFF) Show Snapping Candidates is OFF Max Candidates is set to 6; Tolerance is set to 8 Force Pixel Alignment is OFF Move by whole pixels is Blue (ON) Only snap to visible layers is ON Snap to grid is OFF Snap to Guides is ON Snap to Spread is ON Include Spread Midpoints is ON Snap to shape keypoints is OFF Snap to layer geometry is OFF Snap to layer bounding boxes turned ON Include box midpoints: ON Snap to gaps and sizes: OFF
  23. Windows 10 Home 1909, Photo 1.7.3.481 and 1.8.0.526 beta. When I make a selection with the Rectangular Marquee Tool, then change to the Move Tool, I can move the selected pixels but the CTRL (clone) modifier – shown in the status bar – doesn’t seem to do anything. The SHIFT modifier does what I expect but the CTRL modifier doesn’t (see attached GIF). Is this expected behaviour, or am I doing something wrong, or is it a bug, or something else?
  24. Hello, I am using Affinity Designer on Mac (MBP early 2015) with the Huion Ink graphic Tablet. I am practicing isometric art so I created a 1000x1000px artboard and enabled the grid (50px, 8 separations). Placing a rectangle onto the grid plane works just fine but it gets laggy when I want to resize and move it using the move tool. Actually, I've tested a bit: It lags when I am zoomed in and want to move/resize it using the move tool. It does not lag when I am zoomed out (to see the whole artboard) and want to move/resize it using the move tool. Snapping to grid is activated. When it starts to lag, it's due to high CPU usage and also my fan kicks in very quickly. I don't see these kind of issues when I use my MBP trackpad. I am not sure if this is a bug in Affinity, or something with the graphic tablet or some wrong configuration. It definitely degrades the experience of using Affinity Designer but I hope there is a solution to it. Thanks in advance. Phillipp
  25. I've encountered an issue with the Move Tool (Black Cursor Icon) after I've saved my file. Once the file is saved, the move tool only selects the objects but will not drag them/move them. I also am no longer able to resize objects perhaps related to the Move Tool's overall functionality. The only way I am able to resolve this issue is by shutting down the entire program, opening it up again then re-opening the file. This can be very disruptive to my workflow, and I do like to save my files periodically to avoid losing any significant work. The video attached shows me saving a file midway, then no longer being able to move selected objects. Thank you, hope this can be resolved soon! System Information: I'm using the Microsoft Surface Laptop on Windows 10 Pro Operating System Version 1803 OS Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i76600U CPU 2.60GHz 2.81GHz Power saving GPU Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 High-Performance GPU NVIDIA GeForce GPU Installed RAM 16.0 GB 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Move Tool Issue.mp4
