  1. Hello, I have a general question about creating objects with Affinity Designer. Here is a picture that hopefully helps you understand my issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jDIYYxd9ya5fS_qSuebt781eShcrj-Bj/view?usp=sharing I was trying to recreate a kind of lens which is shown in step a. This object itself is made up of several smaller shapes (b.), one of which is a large blue area which also serves as the outline of the object. The other shapes, e.g. the white "lens," is a child object of the blue shape. My problem now is that--when enabling pixel view--some blue pixels appear at the edge of the white objects (displayed in c.). This is of course because the white shape is still inside the blue shape. Instead of the blue shape outlining the whole object, I guess I could create the object out of several smaller shapes, e.g. what I did in d. I then just move every shape close together until they snap to each other. However, now this leads to the issue that some of the background (e.g. a strong red) will be slightly visible where the shapes touch each other (shown in e., again more visible in pixel preview). Also, when subtracting the blue shape, Affinity Designer often fails to create a "clean" object, and often leaves some stray nodes when subtracting shapes (shown in the red part of step d.). My question as someone new to this kind of illustration/graphic design would be: How would professionals go ahead to recreate this? Is there a "standard" way which avoids these kind of issues? My goal would be to some day create "semi-realistic," skeuomorphic icons such as Mac's Automator: If you have any other hints or tutorials that can teach me more about this kind of design, I'd be happy to know them as well!
  2. DJ Watt - Twitch Branding: Client: DJ Watt: https://www.twitch.tv/dj_watt1991
Year: 2018 Designer: Andrew Salfinger: https://www.andrewsalfinger.com To start off 2018 one of the first projects of the year I go to work on was the re-branding of DJ Watt’s twitch page and overlay. This was a really fun project to work on with playing around with different effects and styles. Along with it’s felt like its been forever sine I have been able to work on a complete twitch packaging. I designed for DJ Watt the following: Logo Logo (Motion Graphic) Banner Icon Twitch Panels Offline Screen Starting Soon (Motion Graphic) BRB (Motion Graphic) Below you can see each element of the project: Video showcasing what I designed for DJ Watt. 8. Hello there! Just wanted to share a recent commission I finished a couple of days ago using Affinity Photo and a couple of custom brushes. The Ad agency wanted to have something in the 80's horror movies fashion, with a couple kids fighting against each other during a roadtrip from hell. I really don't know what will be the final use for this, but I had lots of fun making this type of illustration. Any comment good or bad, will be welcome as always! And here are some previous layout sketches. The original title was a little bit weird haha...
  9. Hi everybody, 80s retro graphic design for a famous french DJ (and a friend). He asked me to illustrate his podcast channels. We have validated together a retro 80s design style with all the codes of this period. Here are the first two design of this project ... Fully made with Affinity Photo. Enjoy it :-) Note : I hope the 1.5 version will solves the issues I met during the process.
  10. I started a design vlog in hopes of getting better about talking about my design process and understanding my choices. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzIq2ylRTW6kLeHfJ6jFfZQ
  11. Just a few things I have been doing with Affinity Designer so far. I have been using it every day for my daily illustrations to a newspaper in Finland - Hufvudstadsbladet - but I cannot wait until they will release the iOS-version so I can use it on my recent purchase; the iPad Pro with Pencil. You ain't seen nuthin' yet:) This first one is the cover of an economic magazine. Many of figures in this was used in other illustrations throughout the magazine, so AD works perfect this way, too, for a n00bie such as I:) Next one up is a flyer I designed for my brother who works as a wildlife guide up in the arctic part of Norway. With AD it was a piece of cake to throw this together... The next two are examples of the daily illustrations I do for Hufvudstadsbladet...
  12. What do ya'll think of my attempt at making a flat version of my profile pic? Does it portray a crocodile with sunglasses and pony ears?
  13. After seeing quite a bit of demand for long shadows in Affinity Designer, I took it upon myself to throw together a basic tutorial to get you guys started with flat icon design in Affinity. My example isn't perfect, but it should be enough to get you going. You can view the tutorial here. Let me know what you guys think!
  14. So I have this client project for a legal department that want something "edgy" ( how I hate that word) Anyway, I wanted to try and pull of this fo 3d look. This is not final but this exploration taught me a little bit about the 3d effects in the fx panel. I will definitely have to play wit that feature more but it quite powerful! This entire piece was created in Affinity Designer. I amazed by this application everyday! interesting moods
