  1. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but a problem I frequently run into in Affinity Designer is the following: I have an object (such as a rectangle), I make other objects children of this object so they will mask to its bounds, then I find I need to resize the bounds of the parent object. I realize that the intended behavior for resizing a parent element is to resize all of the children elements as if it were any other group. However, I was wondering if there is any method/modifier keys that might let me resize the parent object without modifying the children, just to adjust the bounds. Hopefully this question makes sense... if it isn't possible (which I would not be surprised if it isn't, as it's a rather strange request), is there another easy technique of masking I could use? My usual method is to create parent objects as masks, then just place the objects I wish to mask as children. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    AD Theatre Poster

Was asked by some theatre kids at my college to make a poster for an upcoming show... Where else should I turn but to Affinity Designer!

    Thoughts on flat window mockup?

Hey guys, So I was recently invited to be Dribbble player, and I'm hoping to make a good first impression on the site. I spent the past week putting together this conceptual design for a language exchange platform (and of course, it's flat). Tried going for extreme simplicity while still ensuring basic functionality. I suppose the only thing that would require some explanation is the fact the plus icon is to be used for starting a new chat. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys could give me some design advice and/or just talk about your first impressions. I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!
  5. After the recent popularity of my flat icon tutorial, I decided to start a tutorial series focusing on the principles of flat design. In this first tutorial, I focus on basic shapes and flat colors. As an example, I walk through how to make a flat iMac icon like I posted before. To view the tutorial, click here. Hope you like it!

    Flat Mac (Mockup)

Hey guys, so after seeing the infamous "flat mac" freebie mockup available online, I was inspired to attempt to recreate it using only Affinity Designer. Thoughts?
  7. After seeing quite a bit of demand for long shadows in Affinity Designer, I took it upon myself to throw together a basic tutorial to get you guys started with flat icon design in Affinity. My example isn't perfect, but it should be enough to get you going. You can view the tutorial here. Let me know what you guys think!

    Long shadow effect

For anyone wondering how to do this, I tried making a blog post explaining it the best I could. It is still relatively tedious compared to Illustrator or Inkscape, but it's really not that bad once you get the hang of it.
