  1. I haven't been able to use the painting brush tool after the upgrade version, it's nor working on the desktop version in Affinity Photo. I don't know what to do to fix it! Please, Help!
  2. Hi there. I'm on macOS Sonoma 14.2 beta and Affinity Photo 2 v2.2.1. I'm trying to edit an image from my Photos library in Affinity, but when I click on "Save Changes" in Photos, it tells me that it failed to save the changes and a crash report pops up for AffinityExtension. This has been happening for longer than I've been on macOS 14.2 or Affinity Photo 2.2.1. I attached the crash report and a screenshot of what Photos shows after this happens. It's able to see the changes (and update the preview) after I close the document out of Affinity, but just will not save them to my library. AffinityExtension Crash.txt
  3. In Affinity Persona, on my Mac, I can hold Control while using the vector brush to force a straight line. In Pixel Persona (or in Photo), I can't do that. I can only hold the Shift key to force the line vertical or horizontal. It'd be a quality of life improvement if there were a similar straight-line-only modifier for Pixel persona. While I'm asking, it'd be nice to have that same option available in the Eraser Tool (as it is for the Shift modifier). I see that a similar operation can be done by clicking, then shift-clicking on the 2nd point to connect the two points with a straight line, but I'm really asking for similar functionality as the vector brush where I can drag the final point around and see where the line (or eraser mark) will go so I can fine tune the location.
  4. I am trying to make a seamless pattern. Will have to work with scanned textures. So i will have to sometime use the clone tool. If I paint with brush tool on pattern layer, this is ok, the painting on the sides of the pattern layer repeats on the opposite side. When I do the same with the clone brush, it doesn't repeat on the opposite side. A I missing something or this is not implemented yet ? On red : painting with brush. On green, on the right stamp tool from center = no repeat. Thanks for help. All the best.
  5. I feel a litte frustrated with the transparency support - or I am holding it wrong. I have an object with a drop shadow. I now remove the object with shadow through inpainting on a duplicate layer. Now I have: 1. one image with the object and shadow on the background 2. and one being just the background. Now I want the difference between the two images (or rather their luminosity) as transparency - as that should give me the drop shadow as transparency. I don't see how I could do this. Or is there another way? It seems like working on transparency isn't quite as straight forward. Any pointers?
  6. I have done some thinking about what direction Affinity is heading relative to the competition. Adobe has been making a lot of strides, specifically with AI powered features. Even if Affinity 2.0 is a very good update, and 2.1 added some good improvements, I still feel that the general perception is that Affinity is stalling a bit. Serif took up a huge task for a small company putting out a very nice integrated suite of programs at a very good price. They took the fight to competition with 3 programs that could replace mre well known industry standard programs, at least to a high degree. By being so affordable, they provided a good entry point for small businesses, freelancers and enthousiasts. I truly appreciate what Serif created in this respect. Providing these apps also on iPad was quite visionary as well. Then the v.2 offered a universal language for all apps at a very good price, making an offer very hard to ignore. However it is a very big task to keep 3 apps on 3 platforms up to date, provide regular updates and not lose the users to the competition. The competetion in this field has become much more severe than it was even 10 years ago and I think this is why Serif really needs to ask the question where to go next. In my vision there is only one way that makes sense: fully integrate the 3 apps in one program! Affinity has been about the integration of the various parts from the start, and this has been its unique selling point. Publisher was the cherry on the pie in this regard. With the Universal License, Affinity made it clear that you get the best result when all apps are installed. Let's not kid ourselves into believe any one of these 3 apps is the best in class in terms of features (best bang for a buck though). It's strength lies in how well the different parts work together. There are 3 apps now, and though I understand they are meant for different use cases, but in real life as a designer, these do not always make sense. Having to jump over from designer to photo to use a filter on an illustration, or from photo to designer to round the corner of a shape is annoying, and it seems arbitrary. Publisher led the way in providing all elements of the suite in 1 program (albeit in reduced form) and I feel this is the only logical way to develop the suite. Making 1 app instead of 3 saves resources and makes it less prone to comparisons to similar programs. The persona approach which was in designer from the start provides a good base, but I would argue that the user should be provided with more options to customize they layout to its preferences. This is an area where Affinity is lacking a lot. I see this as the biggest chance for Affinity to keep their own unique place in the market, but I look forward to other ideas.
  7. is possiblity drag from assets directily to use image as fill in vector shape/bitmap brush drawn shape? applies Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer in computer. i bet i get it working earlier. i tested with 2.2.1.
  8. I use the suite mostly for game development and in that there's often times where something like a PNG needs to be opened, very quickly edited and then saved in-place over the top. The whole process can often last <10 seconds with Photoshop and basically 99% of image editing tools over the last 30+ years. With Affinity Photo, this extremely quick process is doubled in duration or more due to having to export the image rather than just being able to click save without ANY thought. Because this process is something that can happen 1000's or more times during the production of a game, this extra red-tape becomes annoying VERY quickly to the point that this simple thing can (and does) force us to use other tools. Has V2.x fixed this issue or is there a workflow change workaround? PS. Again I would like to stress this extra step DOES make a huge difference to workflow and causes issues even if to someone who's use case does not need to make these small but extremely frequent changes can't perceive it.
  9. [Photo] Once the brush selection tool(选取画笔工具)[Shortcut key: W] is opened, it will not respond and then crash. The stability of Affinity Photo has been far inferior to Photoshop since a very early age, which is completely different from when I first realized the software on the iPad. Is it because I use a Mac with an Intel chip? 鹤上幼儿园种植文化墙.afdesign
  10. "On the Edge" Just having some fun with Affinity Photo. 🤪
  11. Hello! This was my first attempt at a completely digital 'painting', which I ended up using stop-motion animation to turn into a short video. The artwork was created in Affinity Photo using the NB Master Watercolor brush set. Fox is actually the name of our pet Cockeral and Isla is my daughter. It was originally part of a larger piece which included a full portrait of Isla, but in the end, I decided to spin it out into a standalone piece. The portrait is ongoing. A higher-resolution version of the work can be viewed on my website at www.msibley.com. Thanks for looking 😊 Foxy 720p.mp4
  12. I don't know if the creator of the video already reported the bug or is going to report it soon, but I saw it and did the test, and yes, the selection marquee does not work as it should in AD2.2 (nor in AF 2.2 or AP 2.2). Thanks!
  13. My own photo of Bran Castle, the alleged residence of Count Dracula, in Transylvania, taken in 2016, formed the basis for this image. It was covered with the texture dragonshield by D.Wuestenhagen (included in Affinity Photo 1) and the decoration was done with the great Halloween assets by user @v_kyr . The font is a free TrueType font called Ghastly Panic Font by Chad Savage http://www.sinisterfonts.com All edited in Affinity Photo 2.2.1. Es wurde mit der Texture dragonshield von D.Wuestenhagen (Beigabe von Affinity Photo 1) überzogen und die Ausschmückung erfolgte mit den tollen Halloween Assets vom User @v_kyr. 14. You see, I REALLY like the Color Chord feature. However it feels a bit inaccessible or that it has potential to be much more. What if we took the feature all together and made it its own panel? It could show a preview of the many color harmonies available from the currently selected color, as well as a live-preview that responds to us changing the color's hue. Could even take it a step further and maybe have a section that shows different light/saturated tones (like a Monochromatic or something of the likes option that would show it's respective tones to whatever color we want, selected or from a harmony). This would make designing a bit more dynamic if global colors generated from this feature could responded accordingly to the changes made to the original selected color (and not create a duplicate of the original color in the color palette which does become annoying).
  15. The opactity changes when I click hold the Paintbucket tool in Affinity Photo 2.2.1, Windows 10.0.19045. If this is intentional, the changes are erratic, because the preview shows a change in fill opacity. Video 2023-10-27 13-37-12.mp4 Steps to reproduce 1. Create a new document 2. Add a pixel layer and make it white 3. Make a selection with a selection tool 4. Activate the Paintbucket tool, select another fill colour, click hold and drag the mouse sideways. 5. Notice the fill tolerance changing erratically and/ or the opacity in the Paintbucket tool changing.
  16. An old habit from Photoshop, when I have a selection, I can move the selection with the selection tool active. When I want to move its contents, I either have to switch to the move tool or hold the shortcut for the move tool. But, it is easier to use a modifier key, such as Ctrl, because it isn't in use as of now. For reference, Shift constrains selection proportions and Alt removes from selections.
  17. Below is my list of written tutorials I have done over the years. The first few were done using early versions of Affinity programs but they should still be ok. Some menus may have changed or tools look different but the basics are the same. Also most are for Affinity Photo, but some could be done in Designer. Plus the "Beginners Look at Affinity Photo" ones will pretty much be the same in Affinity Designer and Publisher as all 3 programs have same basic functions. It may work the same on iPad version but I don’t own one so can’t confirm that it will. It looks at what Styles are, how to make some Gradient Styles and some Styles made from images. Then how to Export and Import your newly made Styles. After that I do a basic overview of a couple of video tutorials I have made in the past. Using the Mirror Filter and the Equation filter to make new images, to then make Styles from. Lastly, another overview of a recent video tutorial, which looks at using the Vector Crop Tool in Affinity Designer to grab sections of an image to then make Styles from. The end of this PDF tutorial has interactive links to all the video tutorials and links to the downloads of all the Styles I have made in these video and written tutorials. https://www.dropbox.com/s/82szaatnflaw8fk/ACTIV8-issue7-Styles.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 8 – Affinity Photo – Make Sketch Image With Just The Channel Mixer A while ago I made an Affinity Photo video tutorial about making a sketch image just using the Channel Mixer adjustment. I thought I’d up-date it slightly in this written tutorial, which can be done in Affinity Photo, Designer or Publisher. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6etmt3am6ljprwn/ACTIV8-issue7-ChannelMixer-Sketch.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 8a – Affinity Software – 4 Creative yet simple ways to use Blend Modes This is a written tutorial update of a video tutorial I did in Feb 2018. They are fairly basic edits and will work best with an image that has a white background. So, I will use one I got from Pixabay, as are the other images used. Links to the video and image are in the written tutorial. The video was done in Affinity Photo but this will be done in Affinity Designer but I see no reason why it can’t also be done in Publisher. https://www.dropbox.com/s/sluebvjl86nuk8e/ACTIV8-issue8-Four-Uses-for-Blend-Modes.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 9 – A Beginners Look At Affinity Photo part 1 Looking at opening images and saving your edits. Plus, file formats also a look at the Layers Panel and Colour selection Although tutorial is for Affinity Photo all will work pretty much the same in Affinity Designer And Publisher https://www.dropbox.com/s/7ztaxn4siom7evd/ACTIV8-issue9-Beginners%20Look%20at%20Affinity%20Photo%20pt01.pdf?dl=0 Activ8 issue 10 – A Beginners Look At Affinity Photo part 2 Looking at opening and setting up a new document other than an image. The Brush Tool and changing the Brush Tips. Then looking at the different types of Pixel and Vector layers you can make. Layer Masks and their use. Plus, a quick look at Text and Shape layers and the Glyph Browser. As with part 1, most (if not all) of the information in this tutorial will work just as well in Affinity Designer and Publisher as all 3 programs are so similar. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kourodnfojwq26l/ACTIV8-issue10-Beginners%20Look%20at%20Affinity%20Photo-pt02.pdf?dl=0
  18. This one uses molded fragments drawing from at least half a dozen images, including the remains of torn-off posters from the plywood wall around a construction site and - believe it or not - a spider web,.
  19. I've come up with a workflow that seems to work for me. I spend my mornings sketching abstract shapes. I draw them the old-school way with pencil and paper. I cut out the “good” ones and keep them in a folder for inspiration. I then take a digital picture of the one I want to work with and place it into Designer. After recreating the shape I start to see what I can come up with. I've posted the original sketch and the final product. I never know where these drawings are going to go, but that's what I like… the journey, and hopefully a decent destination.

  21. I tried to develop a few shots with the Helios( manual) lens today. I noticed that I can no longer select a lens manually (in the Develop Persona). I have attached a short video. Affinity Photo 2.2.0.2005 MacOS Sonoma Bildschirmaufnahme 2023-10-02 um 17.54.49.mov

  23. Hey everyone! For some reason, every brush I'm using is set to »wet edges« when I select the eraser tool, and I can't find the option to disable it globally for this tool. I don't plan on setting each individual brush to »wet edges off,« as that's super impractical and bothersome. There's a dedicated button in the toolbar for the brush painting tool: But it's missing for the eraser tool, and according to its behaviour it must have turned on somehow at some point: Does anyone have any idea? Am I missing something? Greetings Dennis
  24. How to crop an image on a selected layer - Affinity Photo v1.3.4? It seems the Crop Tool is a global function. How would I accurately crop an image in a selected layer?
